STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club WARWICK FARM RACECOURSE Wednesday, 14 December 2016 Weather: Fine Track: Good (4) Rail: True Penetrometer: 5.06 STEWARDS: P C Dingwall (Chairman), T P Moxon, D M Greer, T A McDonald and cadet C K McIntosh (alm) Supplementary Report: ROSEHILL GARDENS: Saturday,10 December 2016 RACE 8 Pluck@Vinery Handicap 1500m: Gold Ambition App L Magorrian, rider of second placegetter Gold Ambition, pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(ii), in that he used his whip on 13 occasions prior to the 100m, 8 more than permitted under the rules. Further App Magorrian pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A5(a)(i) in that he used the whip on three consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. App Maggorian's permit to ride in races was suspended for a period of one week commencing on Saturday, 17 December 2016 and expiring on Saturday, 24 December 2016 on which day he may ride again. App Magorrian was reprimanded for his breach under part (i) of the rule. LATE RIDING CHANGES: As T Berry was indisposed due to illness, the Stewards permitted the following rider substitutions: Race 3 Never Been Another J Parr Race 4 Catch A Wave K O Hara Race 6 Zero Cash L Roche As App C Nutman was indisposed due to injury, the Stewards permitted the following rider substitution: Race 4 Fast Arli App M McGillivray RACE 1 Schweppes Plate 1100m Whitsunday was slow to begin. A post race veterinary examination revealed a laceration to the off hind fetlock and to have lost its off fore plate. Te Amo a short distance after the start had to be eased away from the heels of Debonairly (K McEvoy) when that runner shifted in when not clear. K McEvoy was advised to exercise more care. Membership began only fairly. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 2 TAB Handicap 2200m Mr Steal when questioned regarding the disappointing performance of Mr Steal, App Innes said that the gelding lacked enthusiasm in the early stages and despite his efforts, took some time to muster speed. He said he was able to encourage Mr Steal to take up a forward position after the 1900m and the horse travelled satisfactorily in that position to about the 900m. He said that Mr Steal then concerned him in the manner in which he failed to respond to his riding to maintain his position soon after the 800m and that it was a beaten horse well before the home turn. Stable representative Mr J Bruce was unable to provide any tangible explanation for the horse's poor performance. He said the horse had been working well leading up to today's race and the stable was confident of Mr Steal s chances. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near foreleg and

to have sustained an abrasion to the near hind bumper. Mr Bruce was advised that veterinary clearance will be required before being permitted to race or barrier trial. It was noted that leaving the straight on the first occasion, the near hind fetlock padding applied to the near hind fetlock bandage of Mr Steal became dislodged. This matter was brought to the attention of stable foreman Mr J Bruce. Grand Allowance for a short distance passing the winning post on the first occasion, got its head up when proving difficult to settle. Over the last 200m, Grand Allowance hung in badly under pressure and proved difficult to ride. Addicticraft a post race veterinary examination revealed Addicticraft to be lame in the near foreleg. Trainer Mr N Mayfield-Smith was advised that veterinary clearance will be required before being permitted to race or barrier trial. RACE 3 Hyland Race Colours Handicap 1400m Come In Vogue change of tactics to be ridden quieter; settled worse than midfield. For some distance approaching the 200m, Come On Vogue raced in restricted room to the inside of Ivoryman and made contact with that runner on a number of occasions. During this time, Come On Vogue had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of Gracious Grey. Gracious Grey change of tactics to be ridden quieter; settled midfield. Ivoryman began awkwardly. From the outside barrier, Ivoryman was steadied in the early stages and shifted in and across behind runners. Lightning Nic after being slow to begin, was checked on jumping when crowded between Oklahoma Girl and Gothenburg, which shifted out. About the 250m, Lightening Nic had to be steadied to avoid the heels of Gothenburg (B Shinn), which shifted out to continue into clear running. B Shinn was advised to exercise more care. Lightning Nic then had some difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 150m. Never Been Another was bumped on jumping. Krusty began awkwardly. Krusty raced keenly in the middle stages. Joining the course proper, at the 1000m, Krusty was steadied to avoid the heels of Peaceful Sea which shifted in when not quite clear. Peaceful Sea rider H Bowman explained that the filly was quite keen during its preliminary and in the early stages of the race and took some time to settle. He said that prior to the 1200m, he had hoped to remain in a position behind the eventual winner, Krusty, however when that horse steadied and Peaceful Sea recommenced to race keenly, he elected, in the circumstances, to stride forward and settle in a position outside the leader, albeit slightly more forward than pre-race expectation. Oklahoma Girl when questioned, K McEvoy said that approaching the 200m he was briefly held up on the heels of Never Been Another. He said that although there was an opportunity for him to immediately shift to the inside of that runner, it had been shifting ground in the lead up to that point and as he was unsure if it would continue to shift, he elected to shift out and follow the favourite through to obtain clear running. RACE 4 Tab.com.au Handicap 1300m Fast Arli raced keenly in the early stages. Throughout the race, Fast Arli raced wide and without cover. Cudabeen which was standing awkwardly in its barrier, was slow to begin. Highleigh was slow to begin.

Invincible Gem when questioned, B Avdulla explained he was mindful that the horse was stepping up in distance from 1300m as opposed to 1100m at its previous start at Canterbury and for this reason, he was not aggressive on the filly in the early stages. He said that he had been instructed to be prominent in the event and he had hoped that the natural early speed of Invincible Gem would have him positioned in accordance with his instructions. He said for this reason, he was somewhat neutral on Invincible Gem in the early stages, however when the pace was genuine, he elected after the 1200m to ride Invincible Gem along in an endeavour to have it make up ground. He said that Invincible Gem did not respond as he had hoped and subsequently settled further back in the field than he had anticipated. He said that in the early part of the straight he was held up and was only able to secure clear running after he shifted to the inside of Cudabeen at the 200m. He said he immediately placed the filly under pressure, however Invincible Gem raced greenly, was inclined to lay in and proved difficult to ride out. Mr C Swan representing trainer Mr K Lees advised that it would be the stable s intention to add blinkers to the filly s gear and would drop the filly back in distance. Mr Swan was advised that the racing manners of Invincible Gem in the straight had come under notice and a warning would be placed against the filly. Sugarparma when questioned, rider B Shinn explained that after the 600m, his mount, which was positioned at the tail of the field, was only travelling fairly and for this reason, he elected to remain racing behind Highleigh in the hope that that horse would take him into the race. He said after the 500m, when it appeared that that horse would not improve as he had wished, he immediately shifted to the outside of that runner and when he placed his mount under pressure, Sugarparma quickened nicely and rounding the home turn, he was unable to come to the outside of Bold Carlota and his mount closed the race off well. Hammoon Dream a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Highleigh a post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5 #Theraces Handicap 1400m Big Arty change of tactics to be ridden further forward; settled on pace. Carluca was slow to begin. Fortensky when questioned, rider H Bowman explained that he had been instructed to race prominently, if possible, in today's race. He said Fortensky was slow to begin and after the 1100m, commenced to race somewhat keenly when racing directly behind Big Arty. He said that soon after this point, he steadied Fortensky and his mount relaxed nicely, although lost some lengths during this time and after the 900m, Carluca was able to improve and shifted out into a position directly in front of him. He said that Fortensky then was not travelling as well as it had in the initial stages and although he was some lengths behind Big Arty, he was not overly concerned as he felt the race had been run in a genuine manner and when he had applied pressure to Fortensky after the 800m, the gelding commenced to respond. He said that he began to vigorously ride Fortensky after the 600m and he was satisfied with the manner in which the gelding was starting to work home and he was still confident of winning the race approaching the 200m. He said, however, that after shifting to the inside of Big Arty after the 150m, Fortensky's run commenced to weaken, and in his view, had ended near the 50m and was only one paced in the run to the line. In the circumstances H Bowman was advised to ensure that where possible, he should maintain advantageous positions and not let his mounts get too far out of their ground. Mr C Duckworth, representing trainer Mr C Waller, confirmed the instructions issued and expressed satisfaction with the manner in which H Bowman had ridden the gelding, particularly bearing in mind it did not finish the race off. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Realise Potential when questioned, App D Panya said it had been anticipated that the gelding would be ridden prominently today. She said that in the early stages when Fanfaron raced upsides her, Realise Potential did not relax and went slightly quicker in the lead than she had anticipated. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr J Pride stated that in his

opinion Realise Potential did not run out today's journey of 1400m whilst leading today. attributed this to Realise Potential failing to finish its race off. Mr Pride Montiro a post race veterinary examination revealed Montiro lost its off fore plate. RACE 6 Australian Turf Club Handicap 1000m Invincible Dame the declaration of correct weight was deferred to ascertain whether Invincible Dame had been afforded a fair start. The evidence established that Invincible Dame, which had been fractious in the barriers and was in the care of a barrier attendant, had its head turned slightly to the nearside as the start was effected. H Bowman provided evidence that at this stage, when the start was effected, the barrier attendant released Invincible Dame in a timely manner, however he stated that Invincible Dame stood flatfooted at the start, bounded and lost considerable ground. During this time, H Bowman further stated that he became unbalanced in the saddle and came back on the mouth of the mare, which accentuated the incident. As the Stewards were satisfied that the reason for Invincible Dame missing the start was as a result of the mare's barrier manners, they declared Invincible Dame a runner. Stable representative Mr J Bruce was advised that Invincible Dame would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Remunerator from the outside barrier shifted in and across behind runners in the early stages. Supa Vision near the 400m, had to be steadied off the heels of Star Crossed. Remunerator, which was following, was steadied to avoid the heels of Supa Vision. Star Crossed commenced to lay in near the 200m when placed under pressure and blundered near the 150m, obliging its rider to change his whip over to the right hand. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of heat stress. Trainer Mr P Adkins was asked to provide a veterinary clearance prior to Star Crossed being permitted to barrier trial or race again. Blazing Steel a post race veterinary examination of Blazing Steel, which raced wide and without cover throughout the race, revealed no abnormalities. Mr C Swan, representing trainer Mr K Lees, undertook to report back on the condition of the horse in the days subsequent. Neretva trainer Mr G Allard will be asked to provide a veterinary clearance of Neretva, which weakened over the concluding stages, prior to racing again. Mr Allard will be interviewed regarding leaving the course before the prescribed time. RACE 7 TAB Rewards Handicap 1300m Perizada began awkwardly and for the majority of the race raced wide and without cover. Mariquita began awkwardly then was checked shortly after the start when crowded between No Interest, which shifted in, and Cry For Peace, which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. raced wide and without cover. On straightening, Mariquita was steadied to avoid the heels of Cry For Peace, which shifted to the inside of that runner to continue into clear running. Mariquita then laid in under pressure in the straight and proved difficult to ride out. Credit Card Miss raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Giant s Daughter throughout the race, raced wide and without cover. Fashion Sniptz which was commencing to close the race off strongly, had to be checked to avoid the heels of the tiring Navua Mist near the 50m and was then unable to obtain clear running thereafter and consequently was not tested. Marmaduke's Lady had difficulty obtaining clear running until approaching the 150m. Star Reflection over the final 200m, hung in and proved difficult to ride out. Rider B Avdulla stated that he was unable to test the mare out fully in the run to the line due to it continuing to hang in.

B Avdulla was advised that had whilst the Stewards acknowledge that Star Reflection was proving difficult to ride, he must make every effort to ensure his mount are ridden out hands and heels right to the winning post in similar circumstances. Cry For Peace rider H Bowman stated that his mount which was resuming from a spell, travelled satisfactorily behind a solid pace, but was nonetheless disappointing in that it came under pressure before the home turn and the manner in which it weakened over the final stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. GENERAL: Randwick trackwork 10.12.16 the Waterhouse and Bott stable have reported to Stewards that Piping Hot bled for the first time during trackwork on Saturday morning, 10 December 2016.
