DESIGN FREEDOM If you are looking for high impact, paintable, engineered parts, possibly large or very large, with series from 500 to 25,000 per year...... Telene is the answer. Its unique properties allow Telene parts to combine aesthetics and technical performances with a cost effective conversion process. Telene will offer you a skilled and dedicated team to support your next project development at end-user, designer or converter levels. Telene offers a great design freedom with variable wall thickness, any type of fixation or assembling solution. Telene allows you to achieve a high quality level of surface appearance. It provides ease of painting and good adhesion capabilities. Several of our end users have received design awards, thanks to Telene parts. 1 DESIGN FREEDOM Irizar (PB Irizar: Coach of the year 2004 in Europe, Spanish coach of the year 2002 ) Valtra (S Serie Valtra in 2003, C Serie in 2004, Golden tractor for the design ) Vovlo (BL70 : Top 100 New Products Award) Design Freedom 1 Large to very large parts 2 Small and Medium Series 3 Key Properties 4 Hostile Environments 5 Future Developments 6 Application Development and Technical Support 7 Telene Processing 8/9
LARGE TO VERY LARGE PARTS The Telene RIM process allows the production of large parts (5 to 100 kg and much more ), without the need for high-cost tooling and molding equipment. Telene allows tailoring of important additional parameters such as stiffness, thickness optimization, dimensional uniformity, always closely adapted to real-life conditions of use. 2 3 LARGE PARTS MEDIUM SERIES SMALL & MEDIUM SERIES Telene s accessible process, combined with reduced labor and tooling investment costs gives you a definite advantage for small to medium series: typically 500 to 25,000 shots per year, depending also on part size. KEY PROPERTIES Telene show high-level properties: HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS Excellent combination of stiffness and impact resistance, even at low temperatures (- 40 C) Good dimensional stability Excellent chemical resistance in acids and bases Ease to machine (drilling, threading,...) Excellent paint adhesion High electrical insulation properties Low density Possibility to overmold inserts Telene is offering an excellent balance between high impact resistance (even at -40 C) and good stiffness. It will allow your part to sustain an authentic heavy-duty usage! In addition, Telene has proven long-term resistance to chemicals and corrosive environments such as chlorine and soda. 4 5 HOSTILE ENVIRONMENTS
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT 6 Together with our customers, we have developed several various new applications outside our recognized segments. From water treatment units to video games casings, leisure equipment or specialized pallets, possibilities of Telene are almost endless. Based on Telene s unique properties and our experience, let your creativity go wild and let s invent together the next Telene parts. Every engineering success is relying on a result-oriented application development and technical support. That is the reason for our investment in our Technical Center equipped with full-scale industrial RIM machine and presses, in order to provide converters as well as end-users with the level of service they expect and deserve. Our experimented staff can define molding parameters so that the production can start as soon as possible. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) computer facilities are available for design studies of structural parts. Linear or non-linear modes are used to anticipate the properties of the future part (load resistance, vibration, thermal behavior, optimal fixing points). 7 Water treatment unit APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT We also offer our technical knowledge in part and mold design (positioning of a rib, reduction of the wall thickness to save weight, how to advise on in-mold shrinkage, etc.) Our Technical Center can support the total product development and is equipped to start up/commission new molds and to produce prototypes or even pre-series parts at optimal quality level. On-site technical assistance is also available.
TELENE PROCESSING Telene is a two-component system* based on extra-high purity dicyclopentadiene (DCPD). Telene is self-demolding without any need for release agents. The two-component Telene system is processed using the RIM technology (Reaction Injection Molding). 8 Telene is processed using a standard high-pressure RIM Equipment (Reaction Injection Molding). Telene results in a polymer showing a unique combination of stiffness and high impact resistance, as well as good thermal properties. Our current product range offers a great process flexibility adjusting to part size and design complexity. The equipment required is a highpressure mixing RIM machine, widely available at word leading manufacturers. The start-up investment remains fairly limited compared to the other mass production technologies. 9 TELENE PROCESSING * The two components are very similar mixtures of DCPD, comonomers of the Norbornene family and additives. They are liquid at temperatures above 0 C. The catalytic system is based on an activator (in the first component) and the catalyst itself (in the second component). Only after mixing the components can the system become active and reacts via a Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerization (ROMP). The molding step itself is made at low pressure in a closed Aluminium tool, offering cycle times from 2 to 5 minutes. Temperature control is critical at every step to achieve quality and reproducibility. Detailed description is available in our Process-Book, which is available upon request.
Telene is teaming up with a network of more than 20 established converters throughout Europe and beyond. This offers our end-users a local full system from the formula to the highspec part together with a lean supply-chain. We are nurturing long-term partnerships with our converters in order to collaborate fruitfully on new findings, from logistics to process optimization or design improvement.
