OBEDIENCE OBEDIENCE TRIAL SUNDAY 11 JUNE 2006 With the new Obedience Rules coming into effect from 1 July 2006, it was a privilege to judge the last German Shepherd Dog Club of SA Restricted Obedience Trial under the old rules, and find such a high standard of both dogs and handlers in all sections, Novice, Open and Utility. The Winners of Winners competition between the Open and Novice class winners was very close, with both handlers and dogs working so well as a Team. The heel free routine by the winner, OC Iniff Excalibur was excellent, a near perfect performance. The runner up Vondoussa Gene Genie also gave a very good performance in the heel free but her excellent recall was spoilt by the finish! Congratulations to both competitors on such high quality performances on the day. UTILITY CLASS Although there were no passes in this section, the standard was high. Every competitor was obviously capable of passing with high marks, but, a brief lapse of concentration, or mistakes, and there were no qualifiers on the day. On the day, this dog and handler did not work quite as well as it could as a team, with the dog missing several drops and sits and going wide during heeling routines and crooked sits on the recall, etc. Unfortunately the dog did not want to stay in either the sit or down positions either. Ground Rules 1. No dog to be exercised or trained in any ring on a show day, nor are children permitted to play in the rings at any time. 2. Bitches in season are not permitted anywhere near the trial rings. 3. Dogs are not to be taken off lead outside the show and trial rings. 4. All dog waste must be cleaned up by exhibitors. 5. No animals are permitted in any buildings. 6. Tents must be set up at least two metres from any ring (obedience only). 7. Speed limit on the grounds must not exceed 5 kph. 8. Parking must be in accordance with directions. 9. Parents are responsible for any damage caused by their children. Any damage or vandalism is to be reported to the Show Secretary on the day. The Clubrooms and toilet blocks are not to be used as play areas. 10. All users of the grounds are requested to act in a responsible manner.
