Sports update What a term we have just had! In order to show you all the things that have been happening down in PE; we thought the best way to do this was a half termly newsletter. So say hello to the Salter Supporter. The Salter Supporter will give us a chance to show off the excellent performances, give praise to individuals and teams and to tell you how you can......get involved!! Let s start with Netball who have once again had an exceptional year which has seen both Under 14 and Under 16 squads become Sandwell Netball League Winners for the 3rd year in a row. After winning the South Staffordshire County tournament and being Runners Up in the West Midlands Regional Tournament both teams successfully qualified for the National Schools Finals in Liverpool where the Under 16s came 14th and the Under 14s came 5 th. Fantastic work girls! The football season is almost over and GSA teams have shown that they are more than capable of meeting and beating some of the best teams in Sandwell. There have been some very impressive performances this year from the likes of Jordan Henry, Akshay Sangar, Jaiden Gamble, Ahad Zahoor and Tereak Powell-Hoo to name a few. Year 7 boys sailed to victory in a 7-1 win against Phoenix and booked their place in the second round of the Sandwell Cup against Bristnall hall where they lost 5-4 in the last kick of extra time despite some world class saves from Ahad Zahoor and some excellent build up play from Lamar Reid and Dempsy Dukes. Mr Cadwalladers year 10s are the only team still in the chase for silver wear thanks to some brilliant performances from the year 10 boys with only 1 loss in their last 5 games including a convincing win against favourites Sandwell academy. In the Salter Reporter we said a massive well done to the 12 Boys and 12 girls from Years 7, 8 and 9 who had been going to Tipton Sports Centre every month to represent George Salter at indoor athletics against Sandwell Schools. All George Salter teams did a phenomenal job with some standout performances from Vicky Loa, Lewis Allen and Jaiden Gamble. Year 9 boys and girls were so successful that they advanced to the next round to represent Sandwell against other Black Country schools where the Girls came 1 st and the boys came 5 th.

Sports update George Salter basketball teams have also had another phenomenal year with both under 14s boys and girls teams becoming Sandwell winners advancing to Black Country School games where they were successful and then progressed to the West Midlands Finals. Coach Sheridan has also led under 16 girls to success in the Sandwell schools Basketball league. Basketball doesn t just stop at lower school, coming off a very impressive victory against top of the table leaders Halesowen College, George Salter sixth form Basketball team are now currently second in the Association of Colleges. Last term saw all years take part in a Dodgeball competition at Phoenix Collegiate Academy against all Sandwell schools and its safe to say that GSA can dodge, dip, dive, duck and dodge! Year 7 Boys Winners Year 7 Girls 3 rd place Year 8/9 Boys 5 th place Year 8/9 Girls Winners Year 10/11 boys 5th place Year 10/11 girls 2nd place Sixth form boys 6 th place Sixth form girls - Winners Below is a match report from the year 7 boys competition. Jaiden, Lamar, Robert, Manpreet, Ismail and Andrew represented George Salter at the annual Dodgeball competition hosted at Phoenix Academy. Georges were placed in a group with Ormiston, Woodgreen, Oldbury, Stuart Bathurst and the hosts Phoenix. No team really posed a problem for Georges with some exceptional catches from Lamar and Ismail and a real show of athleticism from all of the lads. George Salter advanced through the group stages unbeaten and met Wodensborough in the semi-finals and whitewashed their opponents with none out. They met a 4 man Woodgreen in the final which caused some tension early on but with a some blistering shots the numbers game caught up and George Salter were crowned champions of Year 7 Dodgeball in Sandwell. It would be impossible for us to comment on all the success and the progress pupils are making by attending all the clubs on offer, but we want to see more new and returning faces down in PE after the school bell chimes at 3 o clock. So if you are not sure about what is on offer and when, ask your PE teacher, check out the posters in PE or log on to FROG to see the timetable. For up to date match reports and PE and Sports updates, follow us on twitter @GeorgeSalterPE

During Easter a group of year 7s and 8s went on a PGL weekend residential in Shrewsbury and it was awesome! On the first night we spent the evening singing songs and telling stories around a camp fire, relaxing and eating marshmallows before a weekend of fun filled activities. Conquering your fears, increasing your confidence and having lots of fun was the aim and everyone in year 7 and 8 showed that they were able to push themselves and have a smile on their face whilst doing so. Climbing to the top of a 25ft pole and jumping off, zip wiring over a lake, speeding around a track on a Quad bike and building your own raft and taking it out on the lake were just a few of the activities that we were able to take part in. Rock climbing perfectly summed up the weekend one person was attempting to climb to the top of the climbing wall, two people were providing physical support by belaying and back up belaying and more importantly; everyone else was shouting words of encouragement and motivation to help their old or new friends get to the top of the wall. PGL was a fantastic fun filled weekend where friendships were formed, confidence was increased and character was developed. Well done guys!
