SUMMER 2014 OneBaSe have been assisting the NZ Thoroughbred Breeders Association with submissions in relation to the Inland Revenue Departments review of a number of issues relating to the taxation of bloodstock. This has included meeting with the Minister of Racing and Minister of Revenue to gain their support for the review and with IRD offi cials to identify areas of uncertainty within the current tax regime. OneBaSe and the NZTBA have now received the IRDs initial views on these issues and will work together to evaluate the IRDs position. We anticipate being in a position to contribute to the IRD s interpretation of the current position on these issues, with the objective of providing greater certainty to the industry. OneBaSe looks forward to contributing to the success of the NZTBA, its members and the bloodstock industry. VALE DON MCLAREN Sadly in November, we lost a great contributor to our industry, Dr Don McLaren. Our thoughts are with his family at this time. A member of the NZTBA since 1969, a member of the Auckland Racing Club since 1974 and committee member of the Auckland Racing Club for fi fteen years before serving a term as President in 1995. Don served as Chairman of New Zealand Thoroughbred Marketing for two years, was elected to the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame in 1999 for his services and success in the business community and awarded the honour of a New Zealand Order of Merit in 2000 for his services to animal health and the thoroughbred industry. Don achieved many accolades in his 81 years, one of which was the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Thoroughbred Industry in 2011 from the Auckland Branch of the NZTBA. 7
