Contact: Wade Denniston (435) 797-1361 Fri., Jan. 19 --- SAN JOSÉ STATE/SACRAMENTO STATE, 7 p.m. Utah State gymnastics (0-1, 0-0 MRGC) continues its 2018 season this week as it opens the home portion of its schedule by hosting a pair of schools from the Golden State. The Aggies welcome both San José State (2-2, 0-0 MPSF) and Sacramento State (0-5, 0-0 MPSF) to the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m. L, 192.975-194.825 --- at Bowling Green Utah State opened the 2018 season with a 194.825-192.975 loss at Bowling Green last weekend. The Aggies had strong showings on vault, beam and floor, but could not overcome their shaky start on bars. Junior Madison Ward garnered two event titles, bringing her career total to 14, as she won the floor title with a 9.875 and captured the vault title with a career-high-tying 9.850. Freshman Autumn De- Harde made her collegiate debut by winning the vault title with a 9.875. Sophomore Jazmyn Estrella captured the first event title of her Aggie career by winning the bars with a 9.800. Like DeHarde, fellow freshman Leighton Varnadore also enjoyed a strong collegiate debut as she won the all-around with a 38.475. Her best event showing was on bars, where she tied for fourth with a 9.750. USU recorded seven top-three finishes on the afternoon as junior Emily Briones placed third on beam with a 9.825 and freshman Mikaela Meyer toke third on vault with a 9.800. The Aggies started on bars and recorded a 46.950, highlighted by Estrella s 9.800 in the anchor spot. Both Varnadore and sophomore Brittany Jeppesen had 9.750s to tie for fourth. USU had to count two falls in its team score, though. Utah State bounced back on vault in the second rotation, recording a 48.725. Besides Ward and Meyer placing in the top three, freshman Faith Leary tied for fourth with a 9.750. With her 9.875, Ward helped the Aggies record a team score of 48.500 on floor. That is impressive considering Utah State only had five gymnasts in the lineup on the event. DeHarde and Utah State saved its best for last, closing the meet on beam with a 48.800, bettering the 48.525 turned in by the Falcons. MEN S TENNIS...
