Though the Rowley Mile is famous for its world class racing, the Millennium Grandstand, opened by Her Majesty the Queen in 00, is an equally impressive venue for non-racing events and has hosted hundreds of successful conferences and exhibitions over the years. With a stunning backdrop of the Heath, the grandstand is situated at the heart of the racecourse and the views are really what makes this such a special place. GOING GREEN At The Jockey Club we have a commitment as an organisation to act for the long-term good of British horseracing and a responsibility to set an example for the millions of people who visit our racecourses every year. REDUCING WASTE AND STAMPING OUT SINGLE-USE PLASTIC In 18 we switched all of our waste streams away from landfill and have achieved the target to send zero waste to landfill two years before our target date. Should you wish to have something a little different like a special champagne afternoon tea, a hog roast or a sizzling BBQ during the hotter months of the year, let us know and our expert caterers will devise an exclusive menu just for you! DID YOU KNOW? We offer healthy options on all of our conference and events menus. Try the tasty lemon and herb piri piri marinated chicken or our popular roast salmon supreme with tzatziki, quinoa salad and mixed leaf. In 12 the Going Green programme was initiated to significantly reduce our impact on the environment and address rising energy costs. Since then the programme has cut our carbon emissions by over 3,600. But it s not just good for the environment, it also makes business sense. By reducing our energy use and waste consumption we have saved 1.66 million in energy costs and savings in waste disposal costs are estimated to be approaching 1 million. All of our profits are reinvested into the sport and customer experience. In 12 we set ambitious targets for both energy and waste: Zero waste to landfill by Our first plastic policy was developed in 18 that sets out how we will reduce single-use plastics at our racecourses. Our finger buffet mini salad pots will now be served in lettuce leaves and the desserts will be in cups or glasses, rather than small plastic pots. 25% reduction in energy CUTTING OUR CARBON EMISSIONS AND INVESTING IN RENEWABLES Embedding simple switch off processes at all sites ensuring all lights, monitors, electrical equipment and heating is switched off when not in use. In 18 solar panels were installed at Newmarket to ensure that the energy we use comes from clean and sustainable sources.
