SYC THE TELL TALE Commodore s Comments October is one of my favorite months! The weather is starting to cool off and the leaves are beginning to change. We have several events planned during this month. The Cross Lake Combeaux is right around the corner. This annual sailing event is fun for the non-sailor as well. The weekend event features the ever popular Cook-Your-Own-Steak night. What s more fun than hanging around a hot grill, exchanging cooking tips, and grilling a steak to perfection? If you are interested in crewing on a boat for the Regatta, sailors are always looking for an extra hand. I have had been known to crew on a boat or two, and it s a blast not to mention the opportunity to meet some great people with a love for boating like me. Our Annual Election Meeting is planned for October 13th. On the slate for the evening are a few proposed By-Law changes so please be sure to read the proposals included in this month s issue of The Tell Tale. In addition, this is your opportunity to vote on the 2017 Board of Directors. I would like to encourage each of you to attend this meeting and the vote the way you feel is in the best interest of our Club. Your vote is important and should be heard. If you are not able to attend, please stop by the office and place your absentee vote. The Club will be hosting a Halloween Costume Party on Saturday, October 29th. Please feel free to come dressed in costume to enjoy some fellowship and libations. The Club is such a great place to make new friends. We would love to see you. Lastly, if you have not seen the progress on B-dock, come by and check it out. Derek Ford is rocking along at a record pace. It will be completed before we know it. I am so pleased that it is coming along so fast. The Club is about two years ahead of when we originally proposed Phase 2 of this dock. It is really exciting to see all the progress we have made over the last few years! Manager s Notes This is the month for weddings, as we have 3 weddings booked this month alone. I love that members and guests want to use our beautiful club for their venue for their weddings. How could we blame them? The club and the grounds are beautiful, and pictures usually turn out amazing. Our second Annual BBQ Cook-off kicks off October 1st. I hope we have multiple teams and make this a success! I know the contestants from last year had a wonderful time. Our regular board meeting will be held October 6th this month at 6:30, and our Annual Election Meeting will be held August 13th at 6:30 pm. We will have several amendments and one Bylaw change to discuss at this meeting. It is very important and we encourage each of you to be present at this meeting. We will also be voting in the new 2017 Board of Directors. We have two slates which are provided for you in this Tell Tale. Please review them so you are prepared to vote on the 13th. We look forward to seeing each of you at the meeting. Lastly, Our last Regatta of the year will be October 21-23. We will have our traditional spaghetti night Friday evening, cook your own steak night Saturday night, and the awards ceremony will be held Sunday afternoon. Please get your teams together and enter the races. I would love to see multiple boats entered. I look forward to all of the events for the month, and I hope to see each of you soon.
