Middle School Intramural Soccer League 2019 General Information The purpose of this league is for players to develop the fundamentals of soccer and to allow them opportunities to become leaders through empowerment, encouragement, and teamwork. All who sign up will be placed on a team with students of their own gender and grade level. Players will be assigned to a team to promote equality among all teams. Since we do not want to compete with scholastic sports, this league is only open to those students who are not currently playing a spring sport for Kenton County schools. All four middle schools in Kenton County will have both boys and girls teams for 6 th, 7 th, and 8 th grade students. The four middle schools that will be represented are: Summit View Woodland Turkey Foot Twenhofel All games will be played at one of the three high school soccer fields. Games will be played on Saturdays between 12-4pm. Practice time will be available for all teams 60 minutes prior to their game time at the game site. Games will begin on Saturday, March 23rd and will end on May 25th. (No games will be held on Apr 13th or Apr 20th- the Saturday before and after Spring Break) All coaches will be volunteer coaches and will be required to attend a mandatory coaches meeting with the school s activities coordinator. They must be on the approved volunteer list at central office, which requires a background check. The cost of the league is $35.00 per child. This will cover the expenses of the league, plus provide each child with a t-shirt. Please complete the attached form to register your child in this league. Middle School Intramural Soccer League 2019 As a parent/legal guardian, I agree to allow my child to participate in intramural athletics. The student and parent/legal guardian recognize that participation in intramural athletics involves some inherent risks for potentially severe injuries, including but not limited to death, serious neck, head, and spinal injuries which may result in complete or partial paralysis, brain damage, serious injury to virtually all internal organs, serious injury to virtually all bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, tendons, and other aspects of the muscular skeletal system, and serious injury or impairment to other aspects of the body, or effects to the general health and well being of the child. Because of these inherent risks, the student and parent/legal guardian recognize the importance of the student obeying the coaches instructions regarding playing techniques, training and other team rules. By signing this form, the student and parent/legal guardian acknowledge that the student s participation is wholly voluntary and to having read and understood this provision. The student and parent/legal guardian individually and on behalf of the student, hereby irrevocably, and unconditionally release, acquit, and forever discharge the Kenton County School District and its officers, agents, representatives and employees (collectively, the Releases ) from any and all losses, claims, demands, actions and causes of action, obligations, damages, and costs or expenses of any nature (including attorney s fees) that the student and/or parent/legal guardian incur or sustain to person, property or both, which arise out of, result from, occur during or are otherwise connected with the student s participation in intramural athletics if due to the ordinary negligence of the Releases. Middle School Intramural Soccer Rules and Modifications 2019 Rules: Unless otherwise noted, the league will be governed by the Official High School Rules published by the National Federation of State High School Associations. Modifications: 1. Two 20-minute halves running clock. 2. The playing field may be modified depending on the number of players and skill level. 3. The clock will stop on the nearest dead ball or when the ball is a non-scoring threat every 5- minutes of each half to make substitutions. Substitutions are made only at the 15, 10, and 5- minute mark. All players must play at least 20 minutes of each 40 minute game. Coaches will determine when players go into the game. Each player must sit out an equal amount as their teammates. (Unless numbers dictate otherwise, ex: injury, sickness, etc ) 4. The 5 minute substitution mark is NOT A TIMEOUT. Coaches have 30 seconds to make substitutions. The referee will begin play after 30 seconds. 5. Two 1-minute timeouts per half. Unused timeouts do not carry over. The clock will stop on all timeouts. 6. Overtime- The first overtime period will be 5 minute sudden-death period; If a game goes into a second overtime, then we will have a 5 player penalty kick. A game will be called if the score remains tied after two overtime periods have been played. Teams will be granted one additional timeout during the overtime period. 7. Mercy Rule: Points will not be put on the scoreboard if a team is ahead by 10 goals. (Points will be put in the scorebook!) Always keep the score at a 10-point spread. 8. All players are required to wear soccer shoes, shin guards and soccer socks. A mouthguard is also recommended for all players. Note to Coaches: Games will start on the hour unless there is a run over from the previous game. Practice space will be available for all teams 60-minutes prior to their game-time. In case of inclement weather, the District Activities Coordinator will communicate the game status to the School Activity Coordinator. Information will also be posted on each school s activity webpage (see your school s webpage). The School Activities Coordinators will contact the coaches and it will be the responsibility of the coaches to contact their players. Sportsmanship It is understood by all persons associated with this program that the officials are using their best judgment to facilitate the instructional nature of the game. Coaches, players and spectators must conduct themselves in a manner that will reflect positively on their school and the Kenton County School District. Any unsportsmanlike conduct on the part of any coach, player, or spectator could result in expulsion from the premises. This will be determined by the school and/or district activities coordinator.
