Through 4 H and the opportunities it provides, 4 H members have the ability to participate in many events and activities, as well as apply for scholarships, travel the country, and meet new friends. Ambassador & County Council Meetings Thursday, August 25 Ambassador Meeting 6:00 pm Extension Office Cafeteria County Council Meeting 7:00 pm On August 8, 2016 4 H Interpreta on will be presented to Commissioner s Court. Make plans to meet on the steps of the County Courthouse (southside) at 8:30pm. Please dress in official Officer/Ambassador The annual awards banquet will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 6:30p.m. and will be held at the Pleasanton Junior High Cafeteria. We are delighted to announce that the speaker this year is Katie Talley (Bonner), former Lytle 4-H Member. Tickets are $7.00 for parents, non-4-hers and guests. The price for 4-H members is $5.00. Due to the limited seating, we cannot guarantee ticket availability at the door. Please purchase your tickets at the Extension Office or by mailing in a check by July 29th. We are asking that volunteers bring their favorite deserts to share. There will also be a silent auction to raise funds for the County Merit Scholarship. Anyone wishing to donate goods or services may bring their items to the Extension office prior to the event. Thursday July the 21 st will be our annual officer and manager workshop! The Historical Commission, which is also based in Leming, will be hosting a Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser on Thursday July the 21 st from 5 p.m-8 p.m! You can eat in or grab it to-go for only $6/plate! The Atascosa County 4-H Ambassadors will have a table with baked goods at the Spaghetti Dinner. All of the proceeds and donations from the baked goods sold will go to Relay for Life! Everybody come hungry for some delicious spaghetti and some yummy baked goods for dessert! Attention County Council Officers We will be hosting our annual Officer Training Workshop Planning Meeting, on July the 11 th. We look forward to seeing our 2015-2016 Council Officers to help plan for the incoming officers. The meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m, at the Atascosa County Extension Office in Leming. Come excited and prepared 3 with new ideas for our future officer teams!

Dog Project Info The Dog Project will not meet for practice in July and August. However, we have some members attending the State 4-H Dog Show on July 8th...Good Luck to Chloe Jackson and Rayven Wilson!!! Anyone interested in joining the group can contact Michelle Pfeil at 830-569-0034 for more information. Wildlife and Fisheries The next project meeting will be held on Thursday, July 14th at 9:30a.m. The group will meet at the Poteet Dairy Queen to travel together to Tank Hollow Fisheries. For more information regarding this project, please call County Agent Dale Rankin at 830-569-0034. Sharpshooters Ty and Chance Hehman have been racking up those awards with their shotgun project. Both Ty and Chance Hehman participated in the District 12 shoot in Laredo last month. Ty received HOA, 1st place trap, and 1st place skeet. Chance received 3rd place Whizbang, and 2nd place Trap. At the Webb County Summer Shoot on June 11, 2016, Ty Hehman received 2nd place on both Intermediate Skeet and Trap and Chance Hehman received 1st place in Junior Skeet and 2nd place in Sporting Clays and Junior Trap. 4

Congrats, Travis Bonner!!! Travis was chosen as a recipient of the 2016 Texas Extension Education Association 4-H Scholarship. The award was presented to Travis, Lytle 4-H member at the June meeting of the Leming-Countywide Extension Education Club of Atascosa County. This full color book features the photographic work from Texas 4-H members who entered the 2016 Texas 4-H Photography Contest. Laid in category format, the book features the Best of Show for each category, followed by all the category entries. The book is spiral bound and makes and excellent teaching resource for the 4-H Photography project, or just for displaying on a table. Atascosa County Livestock Show Commercial Heifer Show The 2017 Atascosa County Livestock Show will offer a Commercial Heifer Show. These heifers will show as a pen of 2. Heifers will need to be validated and owned by the exhibitor. The 2016 Revised Constitution & Complete set of rules are available on the A.C.L.S. website at: http://www.countyshows.org/s/index.aspx?id=acls The State Fair is coming! If you are planning to enter the fair, entries are due to the Extension Office on August 15, 2016. For more information and schedules, visit: http://bigtex.com/livestock/exhibitorinfo/ 2017 Austin, Houston, & San Antonio Stock Show Turkey and Broiler Orders Turkey orders for the 2017 Stockshows are due Friday, July 1st to the Extension Office. Turkey Poults are $3.50 per bird ($87.50 per 25 poults). Broiler orders for the 2017 Stockshows are due Friday, Aug. 26th to the Extension Office. Broilers are $1.25 per bird ($31.25 per 25 birds). New for 2017: Each exhibitor MAY order an individual set of birds (up to 75) OR siblings within the same household may order and share a set of birds (up to 75). In other words, a family with multiple exhibitors can order an individual set of birds for each exhibitor in the family, OR if they wish, they can order one set of birds for the entire family. In either case, the maximum number of birds in a set that an exhibitor can select from for the show is 75 birds. This rule is the same for turkeys and broilers for all shows. Please note: families with multiple exhibitors are NOT required to place a single order for the entire family. Family orders are an option. i. For turkey orders: A minimum of 5 and a maximum of 75 poults may be ordered per exhibitor or family unit. ii. For broiler orders: A minimum order per exhibitor or family unit is 25 chicks, with a maximum of 75 chicks, in increments of 25. Therefore, each exhibitor or family may order 25, 50 or 75 chicks. Fundraiser Young Farmers Rodeo Atascosa 4 H has been offered the opportunity to raise some money by running the concession at the Rodeo on August 18 20, 2016. Several members of the council have already volunteered but we need more help! Last year over $1,500.00 was raised, which really helps our budget. Please call or email Michelle at the Extension office if you would like to help. The Eli s Fund Memorial Fundraiser was a huge success across the state of Texas. Over $34,000 was raised toward the effort!!! We are very happy to report Atascosa 4 H donated a total of $2834.55 and with that, tied for 3rd place statewide. Atascosa 4 H will share the $1000 prize, sponsored by the Texas 4 H Foundation, with our friends in Hidalgo County!!! Way to go!!! The winner of our local contest, sponsored by Michelle Pfeil, 4 H Program Assistant, will receive a $25 gift certificate to the 4 H Mall. Coming in at 1st Place with a whopping $1860 is... La Parita, 4 H!!! Congratulations!!!! Thanks to all the individuals and clubs that raised funds for this Texas 4 H community service project through personal donations, sausage wrap sales, bake sales, ice cream booth sales, raffles, and other great efforts. We look forward to the next fundraising effort!
