THE TRIDENT OF BURRARD YACHT Happy Spring Everyone. We had probably the best boating weekend in June one could ever ask for on Easter Weekend. Nancy, Kamryn and I spent Easter with about 10 or so other boats at Ekins outstation. And for the record even I got in the water to change a zinc on Braemar and the kids were swimming on March 31. Now, I was the only adult in the water with a wetsuit on, but Rear Commodore Rob Langford showed us all up with a grand splash and a swim around in his Hawaii shorts. Quite a day for sure with great friends from our Club. It really is what it s all about, isn t it? In our last board meeting we have decided on recommendation from the Security Committee to leave the gate on Gostick Place default closed, as it already is on Sundays. This means that at all times you will now need your Club key or FOB to enter into our home base property. As you are most likely aware, much construction and congestion is going on around us, causing a few security issues around the club. We ve had a few things go missing from the parking lot, we ve had a few cars parked in there that we are confident don t belong as well. Currently, James and his team are upgrading the system to allow a buzz in from the street for contractors and others that need to get into the Club. For us, our guests will simply have to call you from the outside our property to get in. The current code system will stay in place, but we will post that code on the member only side of the website for you to access anytime. Folks, I think this is one of those things that we just would rather have not had to do, but it is a sign of the times and something that we just have to do to protect our facility and ensure our members and guests always have priority and a safe secure place to enjoy our boating passion. We hope you can support us in this change. Commodore John McCallum Braemar Lastly, Safety weekend is just around the corner. Gord Argue and his team will be out and about, I also will be around the Club all day on Saturday as well as Friday afternoon. Stop me on the docks and say hi, my ear is always yours, I look forward to hearing from you about your boating plans or whatever you have on your mind about our Club. And Olive Oyl along with BYC Club Regalia will be there too!!! Thanks again for helping make this place the great place that it is. Commodore John McCallum

Vice Commodore Report Sailpast We have chosen May 4 th for Sail Past this year. Again between tides and other club activities we feel this is the best date. We will once again leave the Vancouver Harbour and return to Indian Arm. The morning ceremonies will be held at the club at 0900. Boats will leave the club as is tradition and transit to a location similar to last year by Boulder Island at 1200. Once you have completed your salute you will be invited to proceed up the Arm to Clementine. We hope you will stay and enjoy the day including food and entertainment. For those not wishing to stay overnight we will arrange transportation back to the club. Orders will be available at the clubhouse and online. Please mark the date. Breakwater I am pleased to say that we completed our review of the drawings and have given IMF the approval to proceed. Several items, including the location and bolt pattern of the crane, the plate covers, the final location of the conduits have recently been resolved and a new final set of plans received. The construction has started and the committee will be visiting the site next week to see the progress. I expect a full working schedule by the end of April and will provide an update on the delivery and installation dates next month. Security As noted in the Commodores message, Security Committee has recommended we keep the gates closed to improve the security at the club. We shall also be installing 3 new cameras to provide better coverage to the parking lot. This will be implemented on or about April 15 th once all of the new front gate equipment has been installed and tested. Please take a moment to go to the website and login to members section. We will have the gate codes available in this area of the website once the gates are closed. Your key and remote club fob will continue to work. We are also asking all members to keep an eye on who follows you in the front gate. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. Burns McLellan Vice Commodore

Social Committee Report Not sure if anyone has pictures of the Taste of Portugal Evening on March 8 but if you do, it would be great if you can send them along to socials@burrardyachtclub.com. By all accounts it was another very successful event and very close to being a sell-out! Special thanks Alfredo Uncao for coordinating everything at the Portuguese Club and to David Holmes for helping us with the bus transportation. Thanks also to Conor Shankey for playing host for the evening and Mel Lefluffy for helping out too. I m sure there were others who pitched in it is just that kind of club thank you for your help. Champagne on the way was a big hit, as was the port nightcap at the end of the evening. The multi-course dinner sounded out of this world so be sure to plan to attend next year!
