She said that she was able to achieve this, however, when she placed the mare under pressure it failed to respond and was disappointing. Trainer Mrs. S Grills said that as this was the mare s first start for her stable she had only trackwork to use as a guide and Hot Symphony had shown that it did not possess a sharp sprint and needed to be ridden with vigour from the 600m in its races. She said that she would now increase the distance of the mare s races where similar instructions would be issued. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no
abnormality. S Young was reprimanded (AR137A (5) (ii)) for applying the whip on 6 occasions prior to the 100m. Race 8: Class 3 Handicap 1100m Me Mongo when questioned in relation to her ride from the start to the 700m, M Weir explained that she had been instructed to ride her mount at the rear of the field in accordance with its established pattern and attempt to improve from the 600m around the field if possible. She added that she had been advised by the trainer and a senior rider that the gelding had a tendency to pull hard in the early stages of its races which may cause her difficulty if she were too close to the heels of runners in front. She said that her mount began well and when she attempted to restrain it she experienced difficulty due to the reins being slippery, then Me Mongo began to race fiercely with its head up, which disadvantaged her and led to it being further back than intended. She said that she was caught inside runners approaching the 600m and for this reason could not go to the outside of the field, however she was able to ride with vigour from that point and drew a strong response, which resulted in Me Mongo running to the finish strongly. The trainer Mr. J Sylvester confirmed the instructions, however expressed disappointment that Me Mongo lost ground in the early stages. He supplied evidence of significant financial support in win bets and said that he intended to increase the distance of the gelding s races and issue similar instructions, however he intended to use a senior rider at Me Mongo s next start. Mr. Sylvester subsequently advised (16/8/16), that Me Mongo would be nominated for Taree 22/8/16. M Weir was advised that her ride in the initial stages of the race would be referred to the rider s advisory board for remedial training. Zooming B Cray the rider of The Graft pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding (AR137a), in that passing the 100m he directed his mount inwards when insufficiently clear of Zooming resulting in Zooming being crowded onto the running rail and checked.
