We have completed most of our 2019 calendar so you can start planning things around all those important dates! Please read the newsletter carefully and take note of any changes for 2019. All applications and forms are available on the putnam.osu.edu and under the 4-H Youth Development site. Hope everyone has an enjoyable Thanksgiving with family and friends. Jason A. Hedrick, Extension Educator/4-H Youth Development NEW ENROLLEMENT DEADLINE for 2019 4-H Enrollment Deadline March 1 Project Change, Add, Drop Deadline April 1 Animal Possession Deadlines have not changed! Applications/Interviews for Junior Fair Board and/or Camp Counselors Are due December 3, 2018 Applications for the 2019 Putnam County Junior Fair Board and Camp Counselors are available at the Extension Office or on the Putnam County 4-H web site. The Junior Fair Board and Camp Counselors is open to all 4-H youth (current Freshman - Senior) and is a great opportunity to help coordinate events at the Putnam County Fair and/or camp. Junior Fair Board and Camp Counselor interviews are scheduled for December 19-21. Call 419-523- 6294 for an interview time! Again this year OSU requires adult (age 18 before May 1 2018) 4-H Camp Counselors to have finger print backgrounds checks completed. Remember all applicants will be required to submit two reference forms. Reference forms must be submitted before interviews.

P AGE 2 The Annual 4-H Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition We will be recognizing the outstanding work of our 4-H Advisors and volunteers for 2018 and kicking off our 2019 4-H year on January 15. The Annual 4-H Volunteer Appreciation and Recognition is scheduled for Tuesday, January 15th from 6:00PM - 8:00PM. The event will be held at the Education Service Center. It will be important to RSVP so we can arrange tables and food service. We will be reconnecting with our 4-H community of volunteers, recognizing our Advisors reaching benchmarks in service and outlining new things for 2019. Also, volunteers will have the opportunity to vote for those running for 4- H Council positions if we have multiple nominees. Don t forget to RSVP by calling the office at 419-523- 6294 by January 11th! CHANGES for STEER Weigh-IN Read carefully There is no Steer Weigh In for 2019. Instead, 2019 market beef/dairy steer exhibitors are required to pick up EID Tags from the Extension Office between December 15-31, complete an ID Form, take photos of tagged animal, and send photos back to Extension Office no later than January 11th, 2019. If your steer already has an EIN Tag, simply come to the Extension Office and fill out the ID Form by December 31. The form will include DETAILED instructions about what photos are needed and how to submit them to the office. ID Forms completed after Dec 31 will be assessed a $10 late fee. Photos will not be accepted after January 11 Deadline. The 2019 Family Guide is in or online at: www.ohio4h.org/families/familyguide The Office also has hard copies if you want them prior to the Advisor Kick-Off. 4-H club dues Club Dues will increase from $5 to $6 per member and an additional $1 for supplement medical coverage will again be added (horse members/ advisors is $2). Total club dues per member is $7 ($8 for horse members) for 2019. Club dues have not increased since 2003. While our Silent Auction and Chicken BBQ have helped to offset the 4-H project book price increases over the last 15 years, it has not kept pace with rising book prices. Junior Fair Goat Show Changes 1. Goat Meat Breeding Class has been added to Junior Fair Goat Show for 2019. Details and guidelines to be announced soon. 2. P AGE 4 Putnam 4-H BBQ DATE April 28, 2019 The 4-H Chicken BBQ is scheduled for Sunday, April 28 at the Putnam County Fair Grounds by the Beef Barn. The 4-H Council will serve chicken carry out only again this year. The success of our BBQ is critical to help offset the cost of providing 4-H books and scholarships to our 4-H youth. Please save the date. 4-H Volunteer Training set for 2019 Similar to last year, 4-H policy requires each club volunteer to attend one advisor training (4-H Kick Off Training or New Advisor training). Or you can attend an EERA Volunteer Training in 2019. This is a minimum expectation. We encourage all volunteers to take advantage of the training opportunities. It s the foundation for quality club work. Below you will find the 2019 4-H volunteer training schedule. January 15: 4-H Advisor Kick-Off Meeting : 6:00 8:00 PM: Putnam County Education Service Center (clubs will receive everything they need to get started with the 2019 4-H year) January 31: New Volunteer Training and Make Up Training(Putnam Education Service Center) February: Maumee Valley EERA Regional Volunteer Training (TBA) and New Advisor Training offered (Henry County- Archbold) March 9: (Bob Evans Volunteer Conference) Cross county line membership Youth are expected to affiliate with the 4-H program in their county of residence. 4-H membership in two counties simultaneously is not permitted. In situations where the county of residence does not have a 4-H program, youth may not join 4- H in another county. If county financial support for Ohio State University Extension ceases to exist, 4- H membership status already established in that county will end on the date the funding ends (established by Extension Administration). 4-H membership of youth, residing in a county that has lost funding, who have pre-established cross-county line 4-H membership agreements in place will be permitted to continue participation in their non-resident county through December 31 of that 4-H membership year. For more information about crosscounty lines membership, contact your local Extension office. 2019 4-H Camp Dates: July 14-18 2019 Putnam County Fair Dates: June 24-29 Fair Theme is: It s Fun for the Whole Herd 4h and ffa membership Ohio 4-H members are sometimes also FFA members, often within the same county or in an adjacent county. These members especially need to keep in mind the 4-H policy about 4-H projects being separate from school projects. To keep work in both organizations clearly separate, 4-H members are expected to take different species or non-livestock projects in the two organizations or, at the very least, to take market animals in one and breeding animals in the other. Exhibitors must refrain from exhibiting the same project more than once. Attention Junior Fair Board Members: Ohio fair Managers Convention The Senior Fair Board will be sponsoring up to 10 Putnam Co. Junior Fair Board members to attend this years Ohio Fair Managers Convention (OFMA) Junior Fair Day on Saturday, January 5, 2019. Consider joining over 500 other junior fair board members from across the state to watch the Ohio Fair Queen Contest (in which Megan Schulte will be participating) and attend some great sessions to learn more about Ohio Junior Fairs! JFB Please gather a group and call the Extension office if you want a spot! You must call by December 7, 2018. Location: Hyatt Regency Convention Center Columbus, Ohio
