Knightly News President s Message Welcome to another Knightly News. Well, where did the time go? The season is almost over and we only have two weeks of the regular season to go, then finals for those teams in the competitive age groups. I wish all teams in finals contention the very best of luck over the coming weeks. I must congratulate the Under 9 Red and Under 11 Red teams who competed and won their age divisions at the Junee Carnival on Saturday 2 August. Well done and congratulations to all the boys and team officials you have done the Knights proud this week. The club s Trivia Night was held on 4 July at Lanyon Vikings Club. It was the most successful trivia night to date raising a massive $11,000 of much needed funds for the club. This will go a long way in providing additional items such as training and playing equipment. I must thank the members of the Trivia Night Subcommittee for doing an excellent job organising the night and ensuring everything ran smoothly on the night. Well done team. Thanks again to our sponsors this season. Without their support the club would struggle financially so support them where you can. I must announce with a heavy, (but in some ways happy) heart that this is will be my last season as President of the South Tuggeranong Knights. After taking up the role in 2012 I feel that it will be a good and right time to retire after the AGM in November. I have thoroughly enjoyed leading this club over the last four years and I couldn t have done it without the excellent support and assistance from the committee. I know they will continue to make the Knights the best junior club in the Tuggeranong Valley. I m usually down at Gordon Oval most Sunday mornings, so feel free to track me down if you have any questions or concerns or just to have a chat and shoot the breeze over a coffee. Under 9 Blue Each week we continue to see improvements in all our players but particularly our new players to the game. With each game you can see each player owning the role they have within the team and digging deeper than the previous week to provide stronger hit ups, faster play the balls, quicker hands passing along the line and some massive tackles. All that hard work at training really is paying off and this impressive little team do their coach and parents proud every time they run onto the field. There may only be a few rounds left but the boys are as keen and fired up for the remaining games as they were for the first game of the season. Under 12 The Under 12s have been affected following the break with a number of serious injuries. With key forwards Josh Weir and Cooper Morton out for the season and Matt Grace injuring his hand requiring a stupendous cast and bandage, the team has had to really lift to remain competitive. Last weekend, with no subs, many of the boys put in their best efforts of the year. The boys are certainly still enjoying their league and improving and that's great to watch. All boys put in a massive effort. Braydon in particular, playing in his first season of league, got his first try and conversion. Huge thanks to Latrell Dyer and Riley Voutos from Under 7 Blue who stepped up and helped out. Everyone took big hits but got up smiling. Good on you fellas. Under 9 Red The Under 9 Red team is having a fantastic season, with fun being had by all. Our defence is improving with the Gee boys making some awesome tackles. The team played in the Bega and Junee Carnivals and played great, winning all games at Junee. A big thank you to our wonderful coach Dave for all his time and effort he puts in to all the boys. Pink round 19 July was Pink Women in League round. Along with the money raised from the pink gear, the club raised an extra $175 for the McGrath Foundation. Thanks to all who participated in the fundraising. Under 7 Blue Under 7 Blue continue to grow as a team and have notched up a lot of great wins over the season. The boys put in at training and it shows on the field. One of the highlights for the boys was playing at the Tuggeranong Bushrangers v Goulburn Workers Bulldogs game at Greenway on 5 July. Thanks to our helpers and parents for supporting the boys. Riverina Carnival A huge congratulations to U9 Red and U11 Red who both won all of their games and took out their age group divisions at the Riverina Schoolboys Carnival held today in Junee. Well done boys!!! 3
Under 8 Red Under 8 Red have continued their winning form and remain undefeated this season. The boys have had some very big wins over West Belconnen and Valley Dragons in recent weeks. Most importantly each player makes a valuable contribution to the team. Everyone has scored points, and improvements are still being made across the field. The boys continue to put in a strong effort at training and it is paying off each week on the field. They have even managed to put in a Parramatta set play into a couple of games! The team played at the Bega Carnival and enjoyed the opportunity to play some challenging and physical footy. We even entertained the locals with a dance-off in between games. Our families love the road trips too! Keep up the good work boys. Knights rock!!! Trivia Night The Trivia Night was held on 4 July and was a great success with around 200 people attending and over $11,000 being raised for the club. A huge thank you to Terri and the organising committee. Thank you also to everyone who donated and bid on the auction items. The main auction item of the HSV HRT Weekend Experience Package was picked up by Dave Navarro for an awesome $2,200. Thank you Dave and to Nathan Hayes of Gerald Slaven Motors for donating such an amazing item. Under 6 Blue In the last couple of weeks the Under 6 Blue team have been practicing their tackling skills and it shows as they have had a fantastic defence line. The training has been rewarded on the field with the boys winning five games in a row. They are developing and work well as a team. Thanks to the parents and friends who come and support each week and who have lent a helping hand during our BBQ shift. We are enjoying watching these guys every week. 5
