LOUDICROUS FROM THREE UConn senior Katie Lou Samuelson is one of the program s most prolific three-point shooters. Lou is currently tied with Maya Moore for third in the Connecticut record books with 311 three-pointers made. She s also fourth with a 43.0 career three-point field goal percentage. Samuelson became just the fourth Husky all-time to reach 300 career three pointers vs. Ole Miss. Samuelson is in the single-season record book for three-point field goals made with 119 (ranked second, 2016-17) and 96 (ranked sixth, 2017-18). The Huntington Beach, Calif., native led NCAA Division I last season with a.475 three-point field goal percentage. COLLIER TO HAVE HS JERSEY RETIRED Prior to UConn s game at Saint Louis next Tuesday, senior Napheesa Collier will have her high school jersey and number retired at Incarnate Word Academy on Monday. A native of O Fallon, Mo., Collier helped Incarnate Word to three Missouri Class 4 state championships. Collier also wore No. 24 in high school. WILLIAMS MAKING IMMEDIATE IMPACT Freshman Christyn Williams, the No. 1 recruit in her class, has immediately stepped in as a contributor for UConn. Williams is the first UConn freshman to start in her first career game since Breanna Stewart (2012). Nicknamed Squeaks, the Little Rock, Ark., native is averaging 10.8 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and leads the team with 1.3 steals per game. HOME SWEET HOME The Huskies have a 557-32 (.946) record in games played at Gampel Pavilion or the XL Center. The program boasts a record of 285-7 (.976) in Gampel since the 1993-94 season, and the Huskies have won 148 of their last 179 games in the Storrs facility. A 5-11 guard, Williams was the No. 1 recruit in the Class of 2018. She was named the 2018 Gatorade National Player of the Year in addition to the Naismith and WBCA High School Player of the Year. A 6-4 forward, Nelson-Ododa was the No. 5 recruit in her class. She participated in the Powerade Jam Fest. Williams and Nelson-Ododa won gold as members of the U.S. U18 National Team at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship. UConn currently has three No. 1 recruits on its roster: Williams, Megan Walker and Katie Lou Samuelson. SUPER SENIORS Seniors Napheesa Collier and Katie Lou Samuelson have combined for an 116-2 record in their time in Storrs. The best record by a group of seniors in UConn history came from Saniya Chong and Tierney Lawlor 17 (152-2). Ten previous senior classes earned at least 143 wins in their time at UConn. LOU NAMED PRESEASON AP ALL-AMERICAN For the second straight season, Katie Lou Samuelson was named a preseason AP All-American. The senior guard/forward was a 2018 AP, WBCA and USBWA First Team All-American. Samuelson was joined by Sabrina Ionescu (Oregon), Asia Durr (Louisville), Arike Ogunbowale (Notre Dame) and Kalani Brown (Baylor). COLLIER TRAINS WITH TEAM USA Napheesa Collier spent the month of September training with the U.S. National Team ahead of the FIBA World Cup. Collier was the final collegiate player on the roster and made it to the final cut with the U.S. Former Huskies Sue Bird, Tina Charles, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi and Morgan Tuck ended up leading USA to gold at the World Cup and qualifying for the 2020 Olympics. TRIO NAMED PRESEASON ALL-CONFERENCE Napheesa Collier, Crystal Dangerfield and Katie Lou Samuelson were selected preseason first team All-American Athletic Conference. Samuelson was tabbed the conference s preseason player of the year. UConn is undefeated in league play since joining the conference ahead of the 2013-14 season. The Huskies have won the last five regular season and tournament titles. UCONN TRIO NAMED TO NAIMITH WATCH LISTS The Huskies feature three players who were named to watch lists for their specific position s top honor. Katie Lou Samuelson was tabbed to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Shooting Guard Award watch list. Napheesa Collier was named to the Katrina McClain Power Forward Award list. Crystal Dangerfield was listed on the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard Award list. This is the second season of the Naismith Start 5 in women s basketball. The three were also named to the Naismith Trophy watch list. HUSKIES EARN WOODEN AWARD NODS UConn s returning starters Napheesa Collier, Crystal Dangerfield and Katie Lou Samuelson continue to rake in the preseason honors as the three were named to the Wooden Award Top 30 Watch List. Samuelson was a finalist for the Wooden Award last season and was named a Wooden All-American. A Husky has won the Wooden Award five times previously. DAILEY INDUCTED INTO WBB HALL OF FAME Associate head coach Chris Dailey was inducted into the Women s Basketball Hall of Fame this summer. Alongside Mickie DeMoss, CD was one of the first assistant coaches to be selected to the hall of fame. Dailey came to Storrs with Geno Auriemma in his first season and has been an integral role in UConn s success since. CD is noted as one of the top recruiters in the country and was named the No. 4 recruiter in all of collegiate athletics by ESPNU in 2002. Prior to UConn s game vs. Ohio State, the Huskies will honor CD s induction to the Hall of Fame. UCONN IN THE WNBA The Huskies once again had one of the top showings in the WNBA. At the end of the season, UConn had 14 former players on rosters. Former standouts Sue Bird, Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and Breanna Stewart helped the Seattle Storm to the 2018 WNBA Championship. UConn had five WNBA All-Stars and four All-WNBA picks this season. Stewart was named the regular season and Finals MVP in addition to an All-Star and All-WNBA First Team. The Huskies have had 36 WNBA Draft picks all-time, including four No. 1 overall picks and 22 first round selections. THE AMERICAN S FINEST UConn has dominated the American Athletic Conference since joining the league ahead of the 2013-14 season. The Huskies have won every conference regular season and tournament title since joining the American. UConn hasn t dropped a game in conference play, and the Huskies own a 96-0 record in American games.

THE GOLD STANDARD UConn is the premier women s basketball program in the nation. The Huskies have won 11 NCAA Championships and made an appearance in a record 19 NCAA Final Fours. HUSKIES WELCOME LISTER TO STAFF In the offseason, Geno Auriemma welcomed Jasmine Lister to the coaching staff. A 2014 graduate of Vanderbilt, Lister served as a graduate assistant for the Huskies from 2014-16. Before coming to Storrs, Lister was an assistant coach at Washington and DePaul. GENO AURIEMMA HEAD COACH 34TH SEASON WEST CHESTER 81 8 Entering his 34th season in 2018-19, Geno Auriemma has redefined the meaning of success in as head coach of the University of Connecticut women s basketball program. During his illustrious tenure, Auriemma has transformed the Huskies into an unmatched program of excellence. Arriving to Storrs prior to the 1985-96 season, Auriemma took a program with just one winning season to its current state, which includes 11 NCAA Championships, 19 Final Fours, six perfect seasons and 47 conference championships. A 2006 inductee to both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women s Basketball Hall of Fame, Auriemma became just the fourth women s basketball coach to reach 1,000 career wins on Dec. 19, 2017. He was the fastest coach to reach the mark, doing so in his 1,135th career game, and owns the best win percentage in the sport (.884). Auriemma has been named Naismith National Coach of the Year eight times, AP National Coach of the Year nine times, WBCA National Coach of the Year seven times and conference coach of the year 14 times. Under Auriemma, 24 Huskies have been selected as WBCA All-Americans while a Husky has been named National Player of the Year 13 times. He is the first coach in women s basketball history to guide a team to five consecutive Final Four appearances on two separate occasions and the current run of 11 consecutive Final Fours is also a record. Off the court, the Huskies boast a perfect 100 percent graduation rate among four-year student-athletes while regularly participating in community service and outreach. Since joining the American Athletic Conference, UConn has won the league s regular season and tournament titles in each of the last five seasons while not dropping a game in conference play. UConn has swept both conference titles in the same year 20 times under Auriemma and a total of 23 Huskies have been named conference player of the year. Auriemma served as head coach of the U.S. Women s National team for eight years, leading Team USA to the 2012 and 2016 Olympic gold medals. He also led the United States to gold in the 2010 and 2014 FIBA World Championships. Auriemma is a 1981 graduate of West Chester with a bachelor of arts in political science.
