James and the Giant Peach Character Introduction and Visual Timeline Pre-show A little boy will play behind a screen creating shadow puppets with his hands. Several ensemble members will cross the auditorium to get to the stage. Lights for shadow puppets Actors/Ensemble entering from auditorium Pre-show sound announcement James s parents run across the stage where they find a rhinoceros. The rhinoceros attacks them. Actors entering from auditorium Screaming from actors

James aunts sign a song introducing themselves. James is sad living with his aunts. His aunts treat him poorly and make him work a lot. Ensemble member, Aunt Sponge, Aunt Spike, Ensemble member Aunts scream at James & song And old man, a wizard, gives James a potion to help him have a better life. The wizard promises James that marvelous things will happen to him after he takes the potion. However, he tells James that he must be careful with the potion. James runs and spills the potion under a peach tree. Old Man (Wizard), James, Ensemble forming the Peach Tree Drastic change of light when James drops the bag Wizard entering from auditorium Wizard s first entrance

The peach in the peachtree starts growing and James aunts are thrilled. They invite locals to come and take pictures with the peach in exchange for money. They lock James up in his room. Photo 1. Aunt Sponge, Aunt Spike, James, Ensemble in the back Photo 2. Ensemble members, Aunt Spike and Aunt Sponge. Lights change, the stage goes almost dark for a little bit and central light for shadow puppets Ensemble members move from one side of the stage to the other very quickly and making noise Aunt Spike is very excited when the peach grows. Ensemble members, acting as community members, are very loud. James gets out of his room and finds a tunnel in the backyard next to the peach. He crawls inside the tunnel and gets to the center of the peach. James and ensemble Lights change drastically from dark to a bright light as if we were in a disco pub Strange sound track (interior of the peach)

James finds seven insects dancing in the center of the peach. They all had some of the wizard s potion. At first James is afraid of them but then he meets them and stays with them. They all sign a song Centipede, Silkworm, Earthworm, Spider, Ladybug, Grasshopper and James Lights during the song and after. Colorful lights that are moving affecting the audience. loud Song and singing at the end can get James aunts don t know where James is. They don t care. The peach is so big now that runs loose from the stem attaching it to the tree. The peach starts rolling. The peach runs over the aunts and it gets to the sea. Aunt Sponge and Aunt Spike Lights for shadow puppets Actors/Ensemble entering from the pit. Aunts running out of stage Screams from Aunts, soundtrack with different noises that goes really fast, ensemble members talking all at once counting down.

James and the insects wake up, they don t know where they are. Suddenly they find out they are in the sea. At first, they are scared but then they realize they are floating. All of them are very hungry and James suggests the idea of eating parts of the peach. They all sing a song Light change from dark to bright (Glowworm/Green light) Song Centipede sees some thin black things in the water, they discover they are sharks that are going to attack them. The sharks approach the peach and dance. The peach is also surrounded by seagulls. The insects are very frightened but James has a great idea. Using strings made by spider and silkworm, he will tie the peach to some seagulls and they will be free. Song and loud voices from insects trying to figure out a plan to escape the sharks. Screams from Earthworm. They are flying; James plan worked. They see a ship and they wave to them. The captain of the ship sees them but no one believes him. James and the insects sing a song about the two aunts. They all go to sleep Ghosts of the aunts Lights change for the song Song and singing excitement Grasshopper hears something. They all wake up and they find themselves surrounded by Cloud Men. Cloud Men dance and sign around the peach. They climb the stairs and attack the insects. Ensemble as cloud man Lights go from dark to bright (night to the entrance of Cloud Men) Ensemble lined up enter stage with loud noises, singing and making noises with their steps. Dance of the Cloud Men.

Cloud Men s song and entrance. Screams from the insects when the Cloud Men attack them. They escape from the Cloud Men and they reach the United States. They all try to figure out how to land the peach when something breaks all the strings. They land at the top of the Empire State building. Spider and James Lights for shadow puppets Airplane soundtrack. Screams from the insects and James People from New York help James and the insects leave the peach, and they take the peach to the ground. The Mayor welcomes them and they all make a parade. The Ensemble tells us what happens to each of the insects and how they all lived happily ever after. Ensemble Members in Parade At the end when they tell us what happened with each character, they take pictures of all of them. Flashes!!!! Siren soundtrack
