DISTRICT GOVERNOR S NEWSLETTER DISTRICT 410 D DISTRICT GOVERNOR HERMAN SMIT DECEMBER 2013 IF MY DREAM IS TO BE, IT S UP TO ME
Eden Lions have a busy festive season The Eden Lions Club did not take a break in service over the festive season, in fact, this year was probably their busiest yet. At the beginning of the school holidays, the Eden Lions teamed up with the other service clubs of George, as well as the George Flight Training College and a number of private pilots, to co-host the third annual Santa Flight. This project treats over 100 underprivileged children to a fantastic Christmas party, the highlight of which is a flight above the skies of George. Shortly thereafter, the Eden Lions shook their tins for donations from the public at the Pick n Pay at the Precap Centre, as well as at the Bush Lapa music festival. Money collected at these venues is used for feeding projects throughout the year. The biggest project by far was a joint project with the George Municipality. The Eden Lions were asked to cater for and serve a 3 course Christmas dinner for 400 underprivileged people at the Civic Centre. Not only was the preparation and cooking a huge task which began a few days before Christmas, but those members and a few other volunteers who committed themselves to the task had to be at the Civic Centre from 3am on Christmas day, in order to prepare, plate and serve the 3 course meal to the 400 guests. Although this was a huge request to make, the Lions and volunteers who were up for the challenge were rewarded by the looks of absolute delight from the guests, many of whom had probably never before eaten such a sumptious meal.

Sedgefield Lions Club - WE SERVE LIONS NEWS WHAT WE WERE UP TO DURING THE MONTH OF DECEMBER.. 1) Marshalling three events took place in Barrington and our Sedge Lions were once again called upon to assist with the marshalling. Two of the events attracted really large fields of runners and mountain bikers, the 10 km route a was a lovely fun ride for families, however the 60 km route was for the BIG BOYZ with nerves of steel. We once again called on family and friends as we were stretched to the limits with not enough Lions to spread around a special thank you to guest marshallers Sarie and Ray from Striders, Shelley and Bonita, Bruce Schulze, Johan du Toit (who had to administer first aid and did so with aplomb), Mossie and Lynn (imports from Gauteng), Riana Hannekom, Karen Kruger and her family, Chelsea (niece of Lion Alison) and her friend Celeste and Lion Tinus who rounded up his family, Marco, Jannie and Dolf. 2) We received a wonderful donation of small tog bags from Lynn McLellan who owns a business in Johannesburg, but has a family home in Sedgefield. We spread the word and soon we had the bags filled with wonderful goodies from lists of names received via Masithandane and Sedge Primary School. Thank you to Lion Mario and his lovely sleigh driver who made the day special for the children. Thank you to all who donated clothing, toys, school stationery etc, a special thanks to C J Ballan who donated the most bags from a single point. 3) As part of their year end function, Sedge Striders asked their members to donate dry and non perishable goods which were handed to the Lions for distribution. Other donations also came in from caring friends and locals and we were able to donate 6 food hampers to families in Smutsville and Sedgefield. Thank you everyone! 4) Our Carols by Candlelight was a beautiful evening, thank you Ken and Felicity Ironside and thank you to Belinda from Tourism for your assistance. Thank you too to the Spar for their donation of bread rolls for our boerie sales. 5) Two of our Lions tied the knot in a wonderful ceremony held on Wilderness Beach congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Jaco and Gerda van der Westhuizen. Debbie Olivier Secretary, Sedgefield Lions Above all be of single aim, have a legitimate and useful purpose, and devote yourself unreservedly to it. James Allen
SWELLENDAM LIONS CLUB KERSFEES IS HIER! 1. 4. Hier is Faasen en Adrien Laubscher by Kersvader.
