STATUS REPORT 31 March 2016 We re steaming into the second term of 2016 many things has happened and as the first term merely concentrate on the planning stage, the second term mainly concentrate on the implementation as the allocation of DCAS funding is known. It is indeed a pleasure to present the following report on the activities of the operations of the EDENSC. Please note that this is only a synopsis and it is impossible to cover everything. AMINISTRATION The EXCO & MANCO is consistently facing challenges to operate the EDENSC as efficient as possible, but as in many other sport bodies relying on volunteers, the response on requests for information and inputs remain a major challenge. The implementation of the outcomes of the annual Strategic Planning Workshop that was held in on 16 January 2016, are in progress. The Federation Representative, Trevor Davis, drafted a questionnaire to reflect the status of all 50 federation members affiliated to the EDENSC. This will however take some time. The EDENSC Website is constantly updated and illustrates the operations of the EDENSC and its members. Major strategic planning decisions on the cards to be implemented, are: Workshops for administration, treasurers, secretaries, chairpersons; Transformation Indaba [21 May 2016] Recognition of local Legends; EDENSC Sport Awards 4 Nov 2016 [George]; Expanding the Farm Workers programme in Eden; More Interaction of Women Sport with local entities and institutions; The efficient operations of all the DSF s in Eden bi-laterals with challenged DSF s; BI-LATERAL MEETING: EDENSC & CKSC A meeting was scheduled between EDENSC and CKSC on 15 February 2016 in Oudtshoorn where matters of mutual concern were discussed this included school sport challenges as well! This was very fruitful and it was decided to make this an annual event and that a MOU be signed between the two DSC s. The accommodation of sport codes across the boundaries where DSF s are not a reality yet, will be handled on an ad hoc basis via the relevant sport codes & federations. The main purpose is to initiate the growth of these federations in Central Karoo. Workshops can be coordinated and combined where possible and invitations to one another s events. The bottom line is that sport must develop & not stagnate. Major outcomes were: EDF to assist in forming clubs in CK CK federations must be developed; Federations can demarcate & still partake in competitions with consent of DSC s; CK clubs playing in EDEN can also be accommodated on the management will benefit the later founding of the relevant federation in CK; CK requested that EDENSC & CKSC take hand in this venture; Similar meeting to be called where relevant federations from both sides are present; The responsibility of the development of federations solely on their shoulders DSC to monitor, assist and initiate; Letter to WCPSC by EDENSC & CKSC on the challenges of non-conforming NF s; Must start with the smaller codes to found new clubs & federations in CK; Friendly games can still be played across boundary even being part of ESF league; Pressure from the DSC is needed otherwise development won t be done; School sport have many challenges WCED does not come to the table; Status quo report be requested from all EDENSC & CK federations on this matter; Best practices can be instituted in both ESF & CKSF; WCPSC constitution clear 6 DSC s form part camouflaging of this principle not good enough. Is in line with the NSRP of SRSA & SASCOC. Many federations bright in this matter; School sport is the breeding ground of all sport must receive top priority; 1

NSRP federations is the patron of the relevant sport. School sport integral part of the federation. Basic Education reserve some sport activities for them [WCED]; CK school sport worried about the sustainability; Federations & school sport codes to meet & give their inputs can t be 2 centres of power; School sport code coordinators must be bona fide teachers; There are too many documents on school sport floating around SASCOC must clarify; Smaller federations don t always have the funding [and skills] to run school sport; Federations & school codes to decide how they want to accommodate the cross-boundary participation submit to relevant DSC s for approval; Workshops to be coordinated and combined where possible; Invitations to one another s events; Bottom line is that sport must develop & not stagnate; MEMBERSHIP EDENSC is now boasting 50 Federation members with the provisional acceptance of EDEN Judo. The process was handled so efficiently by EDEN Judo that it needs to be mentioned. At present 5of the 7 Municipal SC s are affiliated to the EDENSC. MUNICIPAL SPORT COUNCILS Negotiations with Hessequa and Kannaland Municipalities are in progress. The first meeting with Hessequa took place in Riversdale on 9 March and was fruitful. The official establishment of the Hessequa SC is envisaged before September 2016. EDENSC however awaits a date for the Kannaland meeting. Their major challenge lies with the formation of the substructure in Calitzdorp. A meeting [Dave van der Walt & Ebrahim America from EDENSC & Dirk v d Westhuizen from DCAS] was also set up with Knysna SC to address the challenges. There seem to be some challenges to be addressed. A follow up meeting will be scheduled. The aim is to have all 7 municipal sport councils on board before December 2016. SCHOOL SPORT The Dissolution meeting of South Western District School Organization (SWDSSO) which will take place on 30 May 2016 at Olympia School in George. This will be followed by the Founding Meeting of the new School Sport Structure according to the NSRP and guidelines of the on 30 May 2016 just after the dissolution meeting. SOUTH AFICAN SENIOR A NATIONAL SHORE ANGLING CHAMPIONSHIPS MOSSEL BAY Eden Shore Angling hosted the 2016 South African Senior A National Shore Angling Championships in the Eden area. The best thirteen anglers from 12 provinces participated in their quest to be crowned the champion province and for their anglers to be taken up in the National teams. Anglers fished for eight hours over a twelve kilometre stretch of beach over a period of four days. Dr Paul Cowley from the South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity and his team of taggers were also present at the tournament. They tagged several species with acoustic transmitters that will enable them to track the movement of the tagged fish. 3

For the first time during the tournament the weather played along with better catches expected by all. A number of Hammer Head sharks and Bronze whalers were caught along with Sand sharks. Some Diamond and Blue rays were also landed along with a few Kob. EDEN Shore Angling came out top and was crowned the SA Champion for 2016! The final positions were as follows: 1. Eden 867.48 2.
