Senior Media Class 8-19-11 Volume 1, Issue 1 New Beginnings By: Erica Brewer and Nikki Gamble So if you haven t noticed, you are back in a school. We ve heard all the complaining and whining coming from the hallways and all we ve got to say is suck it up! School is an inevitable part of your life, so quit crying into your graphing calculator and embrace some of the good things that happen at school. For one, look around at all the changes that have taken place, and continue to take place throughout the year. Our school got a facelift: a new gym, fresh paint job, and a manhole in the elementary. Instead of spending your time talking about the early wake up calls, or eight hour work days you suffer through, find someone who helped make this revamping possible. Tell them thank-you. Then, continue to enjoy the new environment that should foster your intellectual growth and instill school spirit. Secondly, school IS an opportunity to socialize, but at the right times. Use breakfast, lunch, and downtimes as an occasion to broaden your social circle and further develop lasting friendships. It sounds corny, but when heading off to college these skills will definitely come in handy. And it doesn t hurt that you ll have someone to share all your memories with. Finally, there is all the lovely homework that will be thrust upon you during the next few months. Is it just me or does anyone else have a mini heart attack when the teacher announces that night s assignments? Between graphing quadratic functions, learning the Bill of Rights, and metaphorical language used in poetry I can hardly keep the excitement to myself. No longer should you moan when your teacher lays down a 10 page packet on finding x in a linear equation. Seriously someone get a GPS for x. Maybe if it met a Tom Tom I wouldn t have to keep finding him on Friday nights. But rejoice in the fact the plans you had with your friends will now be combined into study sessions, and that you now have an excuse to have weekday sleepovers. Seriously guys, don t waste away your year by dwelling on the bad things that happen at school, or in the fact that you are at school instead of home. We ve learned recently that you shouldn t take things for granted and wish away time, because at some point in your life there will be no time left. We leave you with the words from an upcoming movie: Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today. I ll always remember that. CROSS COUNTRY PREVIEW BY KYLE DOWNEY Ready, set, go! The cross country season will soon be off with a bang as the practices start getting more intense and the meets are approaching ever faster. The team practices almost every night, showing their determination by running three plus miles each practice. The lone senior, Adam Case, is determined to make this year great. You can catch him running most days after school, and even on weekends. Now that s school spirit! Be ready to match his passion because the first meet is not far off and all Warriors should be excited, because this year, the opponents will be eating our dust. Because this year, the opponents will be eating our dust. FOOTBALL HIGHLIGHT BY KYLE DOWNEY The Warrior football team will be challenging Caverna today for the official season opener and first home game! All Warrior fans should be there and expect to see an exciting game. Based on last week s scrimmage, the team looks to be in good shape. During the Pac Jamboree, the Warrior defense was hard to beat and the passing game was on point. The team started off slow at first, being less aggressive than usual. Towards the end though, the Warriors got a little mean and pushed through the game. It looks like the first two games might be the biggest challenge for the team this season until the Frankfort game that will round out the end. Rest assured that the Warriors will pull through a victory and work hard to beat every team on the schedule this season. With a strong line-up including seven seniors, the Warriors will definitely be a tough team to beat. ASK ERICA VOLLEYBALL OVERVIEW BY NIKKI GAMBLE If you weren t at the volleyball game last Tuesday night, you missed a heartfelt moment. Head Coach Stephanie Barrows had tears in her eyes when both the JV and Varsity teams led Eminence to victory against Kentucky Country Day. Both teams debuted the new gym with pride, winning their games 2-0. As the season continues, we are sure to see more action like this from the Warrior volleyball team. Though they lost at their first away game in Owen County, don t expect that to set the tone for the rest of the volleyball season. The Warriors have been practicing hard and will continue to do so to bring in the wins. What can you expect this season? Fast-paced volleys, killer serves, and spikes that light the gym floor on fire. Come out to the volleyball games and see the Warriors break the new gym in with style and skill. You can ask me for my advice on anything you may be going through. Nothing inappropriate though, and no math questions because I won t be much help there. So, if you have anything you want to ask me then write the question down and place it in the box in either Ms. Schirr or Ms. Lively s room. Just an FYI if you have a serious issue then you should see a trusted adult. I m required to alert teachers if I am sent anything alarming. 3

WORD WITH THE PRINCIPAL BY-ERIK UEHLEIN To kick off this school year, we are going to interview Mr. Frommeyer. The topics range from our sports programs to what he thinks about the new improvements that happened over the summer. We hope you enjoy these short interviews and maybe you might get some info on what is going down around here. How are you adjusting to this new year? I love when the students come back every year. It is always exciting to start a new year! Think this year has promise both academically and sports wise? All of our sports programs should be much improved. I believe this will also be a great year academically and despite the increased difficulty of state tests. What do you think of our improved facilities? Incredible! Everyone should be proud to attend school here! Is there anything new planned for this year? You will be surprised and delighted! Will our football team smash Frankfort? Yes, if the players believe and the fans get behind them! This concludes this issues interview. Now I d like to remind our readers that you can leave suggestions in the media/ journalism suggestion box in Ms. Schirr s or Mrs. Lively s room. The suggestions can include who to interview next issue, shout We have a wonderful school to further our education in. EDITORIAL BY-ERICA BREWER While you were out hanging with your friends or working a summer job; our school got a bit of a new look. The gym received new floors, a paint job, and new curtains for the stage. Elementary students were surprised to find their once boring hallway was transformed into a street. Middle school students also got a new paint job and upgraded bathrooms. High school as well received a new paint job and our lockers were cleaned. These new changes will hopefully create more pride for our school. So far it has worked for me. Our gym looks so much better and more impressive with the new wood floor and fresh paint job. The red, white, and blue stripes covering the high school walls are a wonderful change from the boring white walls we were confined to. Not only should excellence be expected from the students of Eminence but also from the school itself. I love the new changes to our school but I m slightly disappointed that during homecoming week we will no longer be able to decorate the walls. I always found this part fun and as a class bonding experience, even though we usually ended up arguing with one another. Another thing that is disappointing is that during our senior year, CLASS OF 2012, we will not be able to decorate the outside of our lockers. Students can decorate the inside of their lockers if they would like. Many seniors are disappointed that photos will not be on display on the outside of their lockers. Overall though I m immensely happy over these incredible changes and just want to thank anyone who helped with the renovations: Mr. Scriber and his crew, Mr. Berry the Superintendent, the school board, and any other administrators thank you for what you have done for our wonderful school. I hope that students to come will also admire the hallways they walk in and that the students who use the gym appreciate the floors they get to play on. Once again thank you so much for this it means a lot to us that we have a wonderful school to further our education in. 5
