Well, they re now looking for volunteers to crew the 30-foot seafaring vessel which will sail along the South coast to the Thames during the 2012 Olympics. The Boat Project is a South East region-wide Cultural Olympiad initiative led by artists Lone
Page 3 of 7 Twin who are building a boat from a variety of wooden objects donated by people from communities in the South East. The boat building team are asking people to nominate a friend, colleague or family member who may relish the chance to set sail with the squad next year. Crew members must be over sixteen to take part but no prior sailing experience is necessarily needed. Lone Twin would like a mix of people for the team ranging from experienced sailors to complete novices. From May 2012, the six-eight successful sea faring cadets will be fully trained and equipped for the maiden voyage which is planned to stretch from Weymouth to London. Crew members must be available for several 3-4 day training sessions in Spring 2012 and for the epic month-long voyage which will follow in July. Page 4 of 7 6) Olympic Torch Relay evening celebration: 14 July 2012 Southampton has been chosen as one of the host cities for the Olympic Torch Relay. The torch relay for the London 2012 Olympic Games, will start a 70 day tour around the UK on Saturday, 19 May 2012 and travel through Southampton on Saturday, 14 July 2012. Donors will be able to donate up to 10 at a time under the scheme, which will be free for charities to sign up to and will redistribute 100% of the proceeds. The following organisations have volunteered to host Museum Development Officers (MDOs): Oxfordshire County Council: MDO support for Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Hampshire County Council: MDO support for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Royal Pavilion & Brighton and Hove Museums: MDO support for Surrey, East and West Sussex, Kent and Medway MDOs will undertake a more varied role, managing large scale projects as well as delivering on advice, training and support, likely to result in different demands placed upon them. 11) Funding for you? Biffaward Flagship Programme Summary: Biffawards provides grants to support projects that have a regional or national impact. The Flagship Scheme supports two themes, one of them is Cultural facilities. Biffaward usually support 2 to 3 Flagship projects per year. Funding: grants of between 150,000 and 500,000 Eligibility criteria: Projects must be site-based, within 25 miles of a Biffa operation ten miles of an active landfill (Southampton is). Who can apply: voluntary sector led regeneration or biodiversity projects Deadline: The deadline for expression of Interest is the 1st July 2011. Further information: http://www.biffaward.org/about/foverview/ Big Lottery Fund, Realising Ambition Summary: The Big Lottery is proposing a new 30m Big Lottery Fund scheme to divert young people away from pathways into offending and provide positive opportunities to develop their potential and ambitions. The aim is eventually support up to 30 individual projects either that have already proven their effectiveness and want to scale-up or work with new partners to share their learning in different ways. Initially BIG is seeking to appoint a UK partner to effectively manage the programme and

Once a partner has been appointed The Big Lottery could be accepting applications and allocating funding for the individual projects from early 2012.
