The Spiders halted their four-game losing streak and defeated a team that beat them in the Robins Center last season. Major contributions come from all around the roster with Lauren Tolson leading the charge for a second-straight game. She cashed in 4 points to go with five rebounds and four steals. Micaela Parson and Jaide Hinds-Clarke joined LT in double-figures with points apiece. HINDS-CLARKE NAMED ATLANTIC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK Freshman forward, Jaide Hinds-Clarke has been recognized as the Atlantic Rookie of the Week. The Westwood, N.J. native tossed in points and grabbed seven rebounds in a win over Furman on the road before the Spiders took off for the Holiday break. She was 4-8 from the floor and - from the free throw line all in just 6 minutes of action to help guide the Spiders to an important victory. Jaide Hinds-Clarke made it a freshman duo making its debut in the starting lineup; she scored four points and grabbed three rebounds. This pair combines to average 3. points per game and 7.6 rebounds and had been part of a historically good Spider bench that averaged 34.6 points per game from Nov. 5-Dec.. KYLIE MURPHREE Kylie Murphree currently ranks second in the A- in steals (.), fourth in assist/turnover ratio (48/7,.8), and sixth in assists per game (4.). All of those numbers are currently career-best marks. In addition, the junior has increased her scoring output to 3.6 points per game. She matched her career-high with eight points twice thrice early this season and set a new high with nine points at Furman. COMEBACK KIDS The Spiders have led a game after the first quarter just twice this season and have faced double-digit deficits in nearly every game. The positive that can be drawn from that however is that this team has displayed the ability overcome those deficits. FAU built a lead of in the first quarter and had an eight-point lead with 3:33 to play in the third quarter before Richmond commenced on a 36-8 run to close the game. It was the first double-digit deficit that the Spiders had overcome since an OT win at Saint Louis on Feb. 7, 5. A game in which the Billikens held a -point advantage. Deficits Erased this Season: Columbia: Trailed by 3, Cut to 3 in 4th quarter Virginia: Trailed by 7, Tied the game in 4th quarter Florida A&M: Trailed by 8, Won by 3 Florida Atlantic: Trailed by, Won by Penn: Trailed by 4, Took the lead in the 4th quarter FIRE UP THE BENCH Richmond scored 39 points off the bench in both games down in Boca Raton, 36 opposite Liberty, 3 against Cleveland State and 9 opposite Penn. That s five-straight games with 9 or more bench points. The Spiders failed to score 3 points off the bench even once last season. LAUREN TOLSON RETURNS Lauren Tolson returns for a fifth and final season in 6 after being granted an extra year of eligibility following an injury that knocked her out after just eight games last season. She averaged 3.4 points per game before she went out and made triples that ultimately landed third among her teammates at season s end. MUCH IMPROVED PARSON Parson established herself as the second scoring option to Janelle Hubbard on the roster in the absence of Lauren Tolson last season. Parson emerged from a low-key freshman campaign to average 3. points per game. Parson closed the 5-6 season scoring in double-figures in nine-straight games and opened the 6-7 campaign averaging 7. points per game over the first four contests. 3

Janelle Hubbard has already been chosen to the preseason second team and Lauren Tolson was a preseason third team choice a year ago. FOUR FRESHMEN The Spiders have added size in recruiting this season. Jaide Hinds- Clarke, Amy Duggan and Ragan Wiseman all clock in north of six-feet tall with Dee Hatcher coming in at 5-8 to match the size of Janelle Hubbard and Micaela Parson. Hinds-Clarke is a classic post player with size and strength while Duggan and Wiseman will stretch the floor. Hatcher carries many similarities to Parson as slashing guard with a good combination of speed and strength. MICHAEL SHAFER BECOMES WINNINGEST COACH On Saturday, Jan. 4, 4; Richmond head coach Michael Shafer became the most winningest coach in Richmond women s basketball history as he notched his 67th-career victory as a Spider over the UMass Minutewomen. Following his th season at Richmond, Shafer was 74-4 all-time and with that win surpassed the famous Fanny Crenshaw - Richmond s long-time coach of 35 years. Crenshaw was 66-58-5 over her 35 years (99-955) as Richmond s head coach. ROBINS CENTER Built in 97 through the generosity of the E. Claiborne Robins family, the Robins Center underwent a $7 million renovation in 3-4 that has transformed it into one of the premier college basketball arenas in the nation, while drawing rave reviews from players, coaches, fans and media. The renovations created a more intimate game day atmosphere and provided enhanced amenities for basketball fans. The renovations to the main arena of the Robins Center included new state-of-the-art LED lighting, midnight blue painted ceiling, four 5 feet by 3 feet video boards, scoreboards, refurbished seats, new premium seating options, new terrace hospitality areas, a refinished/newly painted court and renovated restrooms. The video boards are the largest in the Atlantic conference, and among the largest of any on-campus arena in the ACC or Big East. Preseason Poll. Saint Louis (9)...9. Dayton...66.
