Jefferson County 4-H News VOLUME 10, ISSUE 12 D ECEMBER 2011 County Roundup Our County Roundup will be held on January 13, 2012 at the Extension office, beginning with registra on at 6:00 and contests star ng at 6:30 p.m. This event showcases the many talents of our 4 H ers. In the County Fashion Show The 2012 County Fashion Show will be held on February 18, 2012 at the Extension office, 9 a.m. to noon. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. Entries are due to the Extension office by February 9th. The top 3 participants in each category may compete at the District Fashion Show. You can enter the Stage Design (due April 15th), Narrator, Story Board and Music Design at the District level. For these contest contact the Extension office. A Fashion Show workshop will be held on January 21st. Make sure you add your project lessons from the workshop to your entry paperwork. All entry paperwork is due to the Extension office by February 10th. County packets will be mailed to the Club Managers and given out at the workshop. You can contact your Share the Fun category there are 6 categories: Poetry/Prose, Vocal, Choreographed Rou nes, Celebrate 4 H, Musical or Band. In Educa onal Presenta ons you have 20 categories to choose from. Informa on packets which include, general rules and entry forms will be sent to the Club Managers. You may get copies from them or contact the Extension office to pick up one. We are also in need of judges for this and all our County events. Entries are due by January 5, 2012. The entry form is enclosed in this newsle er. Please call if you have any ques ons club manager or the Extension office for a copy. We are in need of judges for this event so please let us know if you will be able to judge. District entries are due by April 5th. Club s Corner Youth Council The next Youth Council meeting will be held on December 12th, 6:00 p.m. Please bring a gift for the white elephant gift exchange. WHEP Congratulations to Brian Barnett, David Barnett, Andrew Perricone and Hannah Mitchell for their 6th place win at the Regional Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program. State Council Officer Congratulations to Christopher Stokes who received his green jacket as a member of the 2011-2012 State Council. Adult Leaders Meeting The next meeting will be held on January 17th, 6:00 p.m. All Club Managers, Project Leaders and parents should attend. Hamshire-Fannett 4-H club A big THANKS to the Sachitano s, (Tommy, Marilyn & Lilly) for their dedication to trash pickup in Hamshire-Fannett along with Sydney & Tracy King; Trevor, Justin, Shelby & Rana Sensat; Savannah, Beth & Ricky Westbrook. Together they help to keep their community looking great! E-mail us your club happenings. Upcoming Workshops... Aerospace project This will be the last opportunity for anyone wanting to work with rockets this year. You must RSVP if you are interested. The meeting will be held on Folsom, close to Major Dr., December 10th, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will be cancelled if there is a burn ban. Horse Project The next horse project meeting will be held on December 11th at Westbrook 4-H Family needs your help As many of you know the Blume Family (Vance Blume is the Archery Project leader) had a fire in Farms, 3-5 p.m. Storyboard Workshop There will be a storyboard workshop on January 31st, at 6 p.m. at the Extension office. Please RSVP by January 25th so we can have enough materials. Photography The next photography meeting will be held on December 9th at Freebird Burrito, Hwy 365 & 69, across from Central Mall, 6 p.m. You can there home and loss many things. If you would like to help they could use pantry items, gift cards or eat there, then you will go to Beauart Gardens to take pictures of Christmas lights so bring a camera & a parent. Dress warm as it may get cold. Vet Science beginners We will be starting a new Vet Science class for beginners on January 26th, 6 p.m. If you are interested in this project, please RSVP to the Extension office by January 23rd. monetary donations. Also, if you had used games & dvd s for the kids would be great. Page 2 Volume 10, Issue 12

Livestock Extravaganza Join us for an exciting day of livestock clinics & judging contest, January 7th, 8:00 to 4:00 at Winnie-Stowelll Park in Winnie. The topics of discussion will include: selection, feeding, weight management, culling and livestock judging (buckles given for high point individual). Lunch will be provided! We will cover the following animals: sheep/goats, poultry, swine, rabbits and cattle. Again we will have panel discussions with presenters, quality assurance session, and importance of being livestock/commodity production. The cost of this event is $15.00 and open to all 4-H & FFA members. South Texas State Fair The South Texas State Fair will be held on March 22-April 1, 2012. Here is a list of important dates, etc: Turkey pickup December 7, 2011 Tag in for lambs, goats, swine & F1 s December 10, 2011 @ Ford Park, 9 11 a.m. Entry deadline for lambs, goats, swine & F1 s December 13, 2011 Roaster pickup January 18, 2012 (YMBL office) Broiler pickup February 15, 2012 (Ford Park) Rabbit entry deadline January 31, 2012 All poultry pickup will be from 4-6 p.m.; bring a box when you pickup your birds. No health papers on market animals; out of state breeding beef need health papers. Vet will be the final judge on tooth rule. Fair book is available on-line, www.ymbl.org. 4-H Day at Fuddruckers Two great traditions! 4-H Day @ Fuddruckers will be a monthly event. The dates are: December 21st, January 18, 2011, February 22, 2011, March 22nd, April 19th, and May 24th. These are all day events so you can stop in while out shopping, or on your lunch break or dinner out with the family. Just remember to mention 4-H when ordering. Jefferson County 4-H News Page 3
