Check in will begin from 5:30 to 6 p.m. and conclude around 11 p.m. Please RSVP by January 21st so we Our annual County Food Show was held on December 14, 2013 at the Extension office. We had 21 4-Her s and 2 Clover Kids participate this year. A big THANKS to all our judges for their time. Also, thanks to our Club Managers, Leaders and parents for making our event a successful one, especially Rosa & Lairen Calhoun for decorating and help with putting bags together. Clubs Corner.. Youth Council meeting Thanks to all who participated in the activities held during the Christmas Party at the December Youth Council meeting. Everyone had a great time and lots of fun! The next Adult Leaders meeting will be held on January 21st, 6:30 p.m. at Fuddruckers All parents and project leaders are encouraged to attend. These meetings are held 4 times a year in which to discus upcoming contests themes, funding opportunities, etc. Amelia 4-H collected money for the Fostering Youth Independence Program at Buckner s Children s Village. Grace 4-H made 100 cat blankets for the Humane Society. North China 4-H collected blankets for a local shelter. Mid-County 4-H collected coats, sweaters, hats and blankets for One Warm Coat which distributes them to the Mid- County area and collected Toys for Tots for December. County Roundup Our County Roundup will be held on January 10, 2014 at the Extension office, beginning with registration at 6:00 and contests starting at 6:30 p.m. This event showcases the many talents of our 4-H ers. In the Share -the-fun contests there are 7 categories: Poetry/Prose, Vocal, Choreographed Routines, Celebrate 4-H, Solo or Band Performance and Musical/ Instrumental and Dramedy. In Educational Presentations there are: Beef, Clothing & Textiles, Companion Animals, Health, Horse, Open, Ag & Natural Resources (Agronomy, Meat Science, Horticulture, Shooting Sports), Family & Consumer Sciences (Food & Nutrition, Consumer Life Skills, Housing and Home Environment), Promote 4-H, Public Speaking, Safety & Injury Prevention and Sheep and/or Goats. You may get copies of the rules from the Extension office to pick up one. We are also in need of judges for this and all our County events. Entries are due by January 6, 2014. County Archery Match The County Archery Match was held on November 18, 2013 with 44 4-Her s participating. 2014 South Texas State Fair The South Texas State Fair will be held on March 27-April 6, 2014. Here is a list of important dates, etc: All poultry pickup will be from 3-5 p.m. at Ford Park; bring a box when you pickup your birds. Roaster pickup January 8, 2014 Broiler pickup February 12, 2014 Rabbit entry deadline February 4, 2014 Breeding Beef entry deadline February 4, 2014 Livestock Judging April 5, 2014 Health papers are not required for animals originating from the State of Texas. Vet will be the final judge on tooth rule for goats. Quilt Show entries March 31st & April 1st, noon to 6 p.m. only. Tractor Supply Fall Clover Campaign Results Thanks to everyone that supported the Tractor Supply Clover Campaign in October. And a big THANKS to all the clubs that worked in front of Tractor Supply to promote 4-H. Jefferson County sold 1214 clovers and will receive $729! This is the largest amount we ve had.
