What is he up t nw? SCIENCE PORTION OF TECHNOSCIENCE FUN PART 1 INTRODUCTION AND VORTEX GENERATOR We will start with a thunder tube that will light up their eyes as they see hw sund can be amplified. Then, just t prve that waves can travel thrugh the air even thugh we cannt see them, we will make a vrtex that can knck cups dwn frm acrss the rm. Yur child will make a smaller versin t take hme. PART 2 DRY ICE AND SUBLIMATION This is a shw stpper! We have many fun activities that we use here such as: Singing Metal Freeze Frame Freeze Dried Balln Cld Candle Buncing Bubbles And Glwing Dry Ice Ask yur child what sublimatin means. (Hint: A slid that ges directly t a gas, bypassing the liquid state.) PART 3 FLUORESCENCE

As we dive deep int the cean t seek ut Dr. Lipid, we find that animals start glwing with Biluminescence. Just hw des that wrk? We will explre its clse scientific relative flurescence t find ut! Want t see hw well the children clean their hands? Well, they can t hide their hitch hiking germs with ur glw ltin! We will teach abut what hydrphilic means as we grw huge glwing eggs frm just a tiny seed. PART 4: SOUNDS LIKE FUN! We will explre hw sund wrks and hw ur ears pick up n the sund with an exciting array f experiments. We have t use snar t find t lcatin f ur Dr. Lipid s underwater lab. But first we must understand hw sund can wrk t accmplish this missin. Next we will explre hw we hear with ur mdel eardrum and special sund games. Back t ur sund amplificatin with sme very exciting and funny experiments such as a talking cup and screaming balln. Just hw des sund travel? We will explre with a sund symphny, snar search and eavesdrpping activities. We will finish ur Sunds Like Fun! The children will have a blast as they create and take hme their wn diver that must retrieve a sunken ship n the bttm f their mini cean. They will learn abut buyancy, water mlecules, hydrmeters, water pressure and the frce f air as they create their sub. Students will als be intrduced t the cncepts f hydrphilic (water lving) and hydrphbic (water fearing) with sme amazingly strange sand. Can they change the prperties f hydrphbic materials? What did they use? Can we use ur submarine t reach Dr. Lipid s Lab? PART 6 ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM We feel that the engineers n bard ur submarine need t knw hw t fix the electrical system if smething ges wrng. We als may need t be able t make ur submarine int a magnet. Can we d that? Children always lve magnets but we have sme new and exciting twist. Can we make an bject a permanent magnet then remve thse prperties? Have they ever seen Ferrfluid? Hmmm, I dn t think they will frget that ne! Hw abut the apparent science magic f an eddy current where things mve in an unexpected time warp. The children will even make their wn cmpass. We will explre the relatinship between electricity and magnetism. D yu knw hw electricity creates a magnetic field and hw a charge mves dwn a wire? Be sure t ask yur child at the end f this sessin. We will make an electrmagnet and test hw t imprve its prperties. D yu think we can make a battery in an ice cube tray? We think we can! We will investigate series and parallel circuits, make a fuse and test insulatrs and cnductrs. PART 7: FUN WITH NEWTON Ok, the laws may sund bring but the prf f the laws is nt! We have amazing beads that defy gravity. But the favrite is ur Ptat Launcher! Dn t let yur child miss the fun!
TECHNOLOGY, ROBOTICS AND PROGRAMMING PARENT SUMMARY TECHNOLOGY AND ROBOTICS Yur student s camp sessins f Leg WeDs will be centered n learning the prgramming palette and understanding hw each f the blcks affects the prgramming cde while building the Magic Carpet activity. We will als be using the language f the elements; such as bushings, axles, gears, cams and such. The magic carpet will use the Pulley system in cnjunctin with Cam gears. What is a Cam? Hw des it affect the build? Cam gear: Usually an blng shaped disk that will deliver a back and frth type f mtin, such as Up and Dwn. Cmpund Pulley: This type f pulley is a cmbinatin f bth the fixed and mveable axles thereby increasing the strength and ability f the lifting r mving pwer f the pulley. In the fllwing days, yur student will build the Magic Wand as they learn all abut the palette. With the palette, children can prgram using mtr blcks, pwer blcks, sund blcks and timing blcks t create a prgram that makes the magic wand turn fast r slw.
They will prgram tilt sensrs t activate the wand and timing blcks t turn the wand ff! Hw des the wand spin? Axles make the wrld g rund! Once yur student has the basics dwn they will be encuraged t explre the prgramming palette while building a Ninja Star. With these activities, they will create their wn prgram using sunds, visuals n the cmputers and their imaginatins! We will have discussins n: Why des a spinning tp spin? A spinning tp will defy gravity if enugh frce is used, causing it t stand vertical against the push f gravity. What is Trque? The measure f turning frce n an bject causing it t spin. A twist f frce n an bject. Each f the activities emply the use f gears, sme use pulleys and cams t enhance the builds capabilities. We will discuss the psitins f the gears. Which ne is the driver, idler r fllwer? As the camp week cntinues yur student will wrk with Leg technic bricks t build a Scissr and a Balance. These tw activities use the Lever simple machine. As they explre the levers, additins t the builds can be added t create a biting alligatr and a measuring machine. We will start levers by understanding the Effrt, Lad and the Fulcrum (pivt pint).
PROGRAMMING Scratch prgramming is a fun and entertaining way t learn mre abut the thught prcesses needed fr clarity and precisin t create prductive cmmand sequences. We knw, it sunds like a muthful! It s surprising t think that we use sequences f steps every day withut even thinking abut it, like, just getting ut f bed!
