The Rebels started off the season last weekend going undefeated in the UNLV Rebel Classic, and have hopes of coming out on top at this weekend s tournament as well. UNLV will fi rst face the home team, Cal State Fullerton on Friday night at 4:30 pm, followed by a game Sunday against Cal State Northridge at 4:30 pm. UNLV is off to its best start in six years after last weekend s tournament. The road will be a tough test for the Rebels, as they were 1-7 away from Las Vegas in the 2007 season. Sophomore forward Daniel Cruz scored the fi rst three goals to start off UNLV s season, with two goals in the win over Jacksonville and a score against Radford. Senior goalkeeper Hawk Mummey proved that even though this is his first season as goalie he has lots to offer the Rebels defense, earning one shutout. Cal State Fullerton is the host for the Titan Tournament. They are coming off a 2-0 loss to Georgetown, but still look prove a challenge for the Rebel. The Titans are 1-1 so far this season. Senior goalkeeper Kevin Puder had nine saves for the Titans at the Cal State Northridge Tournament. Cal State Northridge is coming off a 7-7-6 overall record in the 2007 season. The Matadors opened their season hosting the Cal State Northridge Tournament where they faced teams such as Georgetown and Alabama A&M. Though they did not win the tournament, the Matadors had three players make the All-Tournament Team. PLAYERS TO KEEP AN EYE ON The Rebels have a senior who was out with injuries last year that is looking to make strong impact in the middle of the fi eld. Senior midfi elder Nicholas Paterson is coming back from signifi cant injuries that limited his playing time last season. Sanchez considers him to be the engine of the team this season. Keep your on Paterson, he is set for a great senior year. Sophomore forward Daniel Cruz is currently leading the team with three goals for six points, while Paterson also has a score on the season. Defender John Crawley has the team lead in assists with two, while Hawk Mummey has posted one shutout in goal to go along with a 0.5 GAA. 2008 SCHEDULE 2-0-0/0-0-0 MPSF Date Opponent Results UNLV Rebel Classic 8/30 Jacksonville 2-0 9/1 Radford 2-1 Titan Tournament 9/5 at Cal State Fullerton 4:30 pm 9/7 vs. Cal State Northridge 4:30 pm UNLV Nike Classic 9/12 Gonzaga 7 pm 9/14 Oral Roberts 1 pm BMW/Nike Classic 9/19 at San Francisco 7:30 pm 9/21 vs St. Mary s 2:30 pm 10/3 at Air Force* 6 pm 10/5 at Denver* 1 pm 10/10 Sacramento State* 7 pm 10/12 San Jose State* 1 pm 10/17 New Mexico* 7:30 pm 10/31 Nex Mexico* 6 pm 11/7 at San Jose State* 3 pm 11/9 at Sacramento State* 1 pm 11/14 Denver* 7 pm 11/16 Air Force* 1 pm * MPSF game Bold games played at UNLV All Times PST MEDIA INFORMATION SID Contact - Mark Wasik Phone - 702-895-3208 Fax - 895-0989 Cell - 702-528-0289 Press Box - 702-895-1209 mark.wasik@unlv.edu
