The special guest speaker will be Club member George Sanders. George made an extensive trip through Utah, Colorado and New Mexico this past summer. He will share these adventures through slides and videos. Refreshments will be served. Executive Board Meeting Monday, 21 October The MVFF Executive Board will meet on Monday 21 October at 7:00pm at the New Mexico Game and Fish conference room. All members are welcome to attend. Liars and Tyers Wednesday, 23 October Liars and Tyers will meet on Wednesday 23 October at the New Mexico Game and Fish conference room starting at 7:00pm. The fly to be tied has not been decided. The tying session will be led by professional tyer, Tim Mack. Don t miss out. Extra vises and supplies will be available for beginning tyers. President's Corner On September 25 th we had our PHW fly tying and casting clinic for about 20 of our soldiers from Fort Bliss. We had a good day with these soldiers and they were ready for their fishing trip to the lease. Today October 2 nd we had a picture perfect day with 19 of our soldiers fishing at the lease. Thanks to our many volunteers, Jim Ellett and the Cow Belles. They made this day very special. See photos in this newsletter. Our general meeting is October 14 th and George Sanders has a presentation on his summer fishing venture. George started his trip on the Green River in Utah and worked his way through the Southern Rockies from the Gunnison River to the South Fork and Rio Grande and finishing up on the Rio Conejos. He has both slides and videos of his trip and will give you a good idea of what you can expect if you plan a trip to any of these areas. Twenty-five members will be heading up to the San Juan on October 10 th for our fall club trip. Friday and Saturday everyone will enjoy dinner at the Octagon Inn, thanks to Josie and Teako Nunn from Sparky s in Hatch. Most of the members will be taking a guided trip from either Sandstone Anglers or Land of Enchantment Guides. The river flows should remain low, between 260cfs and 350cfs, which will make it easy to wade. The weather forecast for October 10 th at Navajo Dam is partly cloudy with a high of 62 degrees and a low of 42 degrees. We are planning a Rod Building Clinic this fall which will consist of three sessions (rod selection and cost, preparing and setting up your rod, and wrapping and finishing your rod). If you are interested in building a rod, please contact George Sanders, Bob Silver or myself. In the meantime keep a tight line. Chuck

Page 2 Tale Waters generosity of the MVFF volunteers and the time that is spent with the Vets fly fishing for them would not be possible. Thank you all so much. Ron Bellerose PHW Coordinator Project Healing Waters is getting very active. We have a group from Ft. Bliss fishing on the lease Wednesday October 2. Hope you all can make it there to help these Vets. Last Quarter we had a total of 24 new PHW Vets, 19 from Ft. Bliss, 8 fly tying classes, 7 fishing trips for a total of221 Vet hours and 127 Volunteer hours. Thank you all for you support and help. We are planning a couple of fund raising events this quarter in hopes of making enough money to go on a couple of trips to the San Juan or maybe even the Big Horn. We will have PHW hats for sale along with red, white, and blue flies on a safety pin that we will be selling. It looks like we will have a fund raising session at Jack Key Nissan the last Saturday in October. More info to follow on that. Without the --------- For more information about PHWFF see www.projecthealingwaters.org. Contact Ron Bellerose (575-680-5516), flyfishnh@hotmail.com) if you wish to volunteer to help out. Club Outings Planned The board is now discussing possible outings for 2014 and would welcome suggestions from members. Where do you want to go? Let us know. If you have comments or suggestions for additional trips pass them to any of the Board members. The following trips are currently being planned: October 10-13 - the Club's annual trip to the San Juan. Welcome New Members Britt & Becky Devenport Artesia, NM <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> <> During September large runoffs were experienced on the Rio Peñasco causing a washout of the leased waters. On the 27 th of September Blaine Goss fished it and filed the following report and photos of the damage.---- "Caught a couple of rainbows Friday, but I had to go all the way down (almost to the property line) to get them. One was 14 and shell-shocked. The other Rio Peñasco Fishing Report one was a stocker 8-9. Water is dirty at the upper end. In the lower portion, the water is clearer but still discolored. The bridge that was damaged was the lower one, not the upper one as I thought. Picures I sent you tell more of the story. The river flow in lower portion is a lot flatter and straighter than before the storm. Recovery is going to take a while".
