Page 3 AFL Mackay Newsletter Mackay AFL Ladies AFL Mackay Women s League Competition Game Report 31 st May 2014 Saturday 31 st May we witnessed another fantastic display of Women s AFL when the Eastern Swans hosted the Northern Beaches Magpies at Rogers Oval at 12.50pm. The Northern Beaches Magpies came away with their second win of the season with the final scores being Northern Beaches Magpies 9 10 64 def. Eastern Swans 6 4 40. It was great to see some new faces amongst the two teams and we look forward to all clubs building numbers as our season progresses. We unfortunately had our first injury of the season with Danielle Overall from the Eastern Swans dislocating her shoulder. We wish Dani all the best for the coming weeks and hope she has a speedy recovery. This coming weekend brings some exciting Women s Football for our Women s League. We have the exciting news of Jenna Wicks representing Mackay in the AFLQ Women s All Stars game being played in Brisbane this Sunday 8 th June, with the possibility to be selected for the Women s State Team to play Tasmania later in June. We are so very proud to have nominated Jenna for this fantastic opportunity and wish her all the very best. Page 5 AFL Mackay News A huge fortnight of AFL football is our region is underway, with schools competitions and NQ Junior Talent Championships and Senior Men s and Women s AFL Representative football taking place. day marked the 2014 Gold Coast SUNS Junior second- finals in Mackay at Harrup Park. It was a night full of ing football, with schools from Mackay and the Whit- competing for the title. successful night for Mercy College taking out the Boys and Girls Divisions convincingly by winning all three their respective divisions. The continual growth of Fe- across QLD was reinforced last night with our most ever players competing in the Year 8/9/10 Girls Division. Last Monary cup entertainsundays It was a division games in male AFL female The next stage of the competition will see Mercy College Boys travel to Rockhampton for the Central QLD Pool Final of the GC SUNS Cup Pool final in late June. The winner of the Pool final will have a exciting opportunity to play at Metricon Stadium on the Gold Coast for the SUNS Cup finals in August. The Mercy College girls will also play a development game in the coming weeks against schools from Rockhampton and Port Curtis as an extra opportunity to develop Ladies AFL. We now look forward to the Gold Coast SUNS Cup primary cup (Boys and Girls Divisions) in Mackay on Monday 2 nd June. This weekend, we will see an array of entertaining AFL football in Mackay kicking off with the NQ U14 Talent Championships and Testing Combine on Saturday morning 7 th June. Squads from Cape York, Cairns, Townsville and Capricornia will travel and take on Mackay/Whitsundays best young talent in the annual championships. Furthermore, the evening will showcase the best Senior Mens and Women's players from Townsville, Mackay and Capricornia for NQ bragging rights in the AFL Senior Representative matches. What a week it is set to be with a feast of AFL Football in Mackay!
