UCLA Into Quarterfinals For 20th Time The Bruins have reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the 20th time in school history and for the second-consecutive year. UCLA is 12-7 all-time in the quarterfinal round. UCLA In NCAA Quarterfinals (12-7) Bruins Reach Tournament For 28th Consecutive Year UCLA earned its 28th consecutive and 38th overall NCAA Tournament berth with an at-large berth and No. 8 seeding in the Tournament. UCLA's NCAA streak is the second-longest active streak in the nation, and the 38 NCAA appearances are second only to Saint Louis' 46. UCLA has an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 64-34, with national championships in 1985, 1990, 1997 and 2002. Sweet Sixteen UCLA's win over Dartmouth in the Round of 16 gave the Bruins 16 victories on the season, the most by a Bruin squad since the 2003 team won 20 games. The 16 wins are also the most during head coach Jorge Salcedo's tenure. In The Rankings UCLA finished the regular season ranked No. 7 by Soccer America and No. 8 by the NSCAA. The Bruins are also ranked No. 7 by College Soccer News, No. 6 by Top Drawer Soccer and No. 9 by Soccer Times. In the NCAA RPI, UCLA finished the regular season No. 8. In third round action, Eder Arreola was the hero, scoring both goals in a 2-1 double overtime win over Dartmouth. Arreola scored the game-winner with eight seconds on the clock in the second overtime period. UCLA received an at-large berth in the NCAA Tournament after finishing in second place by one point in the Pac-10 Conference behind sixth-seeded California. The Bruins earned a Top 8 seed, their second consecutive, by virtue of their 14-4-1 regular season record and 8-2-0 conference record. UCLA finished the regular season with four straight road wins and victories in six of its last seven games. How They Got Here: Louisville Top-seeded Louisville won the BIG EAST Tournament in a shootout against Providence. The Cardinals won their two NCAA tournament games at home, defeating College of Charleston, 3-1, in the second round, and Ohio State, 2-1, in the third round. In NCAA Tournament play, senior Charlie Campbell has two goals and one assist, and junior Nick DeLeon has one goal and two assists. The Series With Louisville This is the first meeting ever between UCLA and Louisville. The Bruins are 15-6-3 all-time against BIG EAST opponents, with the most recent game coming in this year's season opener, a 1-0 win over Notre Dame in Indiana. The Bruins' most frequent BIG EAST opponent has been Rutgers, who are just 1-5-1 all-time against UCLA. UCLA-Louisville Connection Louisville sophomore midfielder Paolo DelPiccolo has family ties to the UCLA program. DelPiccolo's father Aldo was on the UCLA soccer team from 1978-81 and was named the team's Most Improved Player in 1980. Paolo was also a high school teammate of UCLA freshman Reid Hukari at Wheat Ridge HS in Wheat Ridge, CO. Third Round Wrapup With the seconds ticking down to a penalty kick shootout, UCLA junior midfielder Eder Arreola ended the game with a golden goal with eight seconds left in the second overtime to give the Bruins a 2-1 win over Dartmouth in the NCAA third round. Arreola's goal was set up after a long throwin by Joe Sofia. Sofia's throw-in was headed up by a Dartmouth defender in the box, and Arreola followed through by tapping the ball into the goal for his second goal of the night. Arreola had put UCLA up 1-0 at the 25:55 mark on a curling shot to the upper right corner after a series of passes from Reed Williams and Chandler Hoffman.

Second Round Wrapup UCLA scored four unanswered goals in a 30-minute span in the second half and ousted Sacramento State, 4-1, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament at Drake Stadium on Sunday night. Sophomore forward Chandler Hoffman extended his scoring streak to four games with two goals (he has scored five goals in his last four games), and freshmen Reed Williams and Victor Chavez also scored for the Bruins. Arreola Heroics Earn Him Honors After scoring both goals in the Bruins' third round win over Dartmouth, junior midfielder Eder Arreola earned Top Drawer Soccer Player of the Week honors, as well as UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week acclaim. Additionally, Arreola was named to the National Teams of the Week for both Top Drawer Soccer and College Soccer News. Arreola now ranks tied for third on the team in scoring with 13 points (3g, 7a). Hoffman Scoring Streak Sophomore forward Chandler Hoffman has been on fire since making his first start of the season on Nov. 5. The Birmingham, AL native has scored either a goal or assist in each of his five games as a starter (five goals, one assist), including game-winning goals at Washington and at San Diego State. His four-game goal-scoring streak from Nov. 5-21 was the third-longest goal scoring streak in school history and just one game away from the school record of five, held by Joe-Max Moore (1991) and Billy Thompson (1988). Hoffman had a pair of goals in the NCAA second round win over Sacramento State and an assist in the NCAA third round game against Dartmouth. He missed the season's first 11 games with a fractured leg, suffered the first day of preseason training. Bruin Cubs Does youthful enthusiasm trump veteran experience? The Bruins are making a strong case for it with their their underclassman-heavy team. UCLA routinely starts seven underclassmen, with four juniors, four sophomores and three freshmen making the starting lineup in their last game against Dartmouth. In the second round NCAA game against Sac State, the Bruins started four juniors, three sophomore and four freshmen. As a whole, Bruin underclassmen have seen the majority of playing time, recording 14,241 combined minutes, nearly double that of the upperclassmen's combined total of 7,320 minutes. Of the 19 different players who have made at least one start, 14 have been underclassmen - eight freshmen and six sophomores. Thirtyone of UCLA's 36 goals this year have been recorded by underclassmen - 9 by Victor Chavez, 6 by Kelyn Rowe, 5 each by Reed Williams and Chandler Hoffman, 3 by Evan Raynr, 2 by Ryan Hollingshead, and 1 by Joe Sofia. UCLA's lone upperclass goal scorers are juniors Eder Arreola (3g, 7a), Andy Rose (1g, 4a) and Shawn Singh (1g, 3a). May We Assist You? Midfielders Kelyn Rowe and Eder Arreola have been climbing up the Pac-10 leaderboard for assists, with each ranking in the Top 5 in the conference. Rowe ranks second in the conference with nine assists, while Arreola is fourth with a career-high seven. Also ranked in the Top 10 in the conference are sophomore Ryan Hollingshead and freshman Victor Chavez, who are tied for seventh with five assists. 2010 UCLA Stats Name GP GS G A Pts Victor Chavez 21 15 9 5 23 Kelyn Rowe 21 20 6 9 21 Reed Williams 21 13 5 3 13 Eder Arreola 21 13 3 7 13 Chandler Hoffman 10 5 5 1 11 Evan Raynr 21 9 3 3 9 Ryan Hollingshead 21 21 2 5 9 Andy Rose 21 21 1 4 6 Shawn Singh 19 18 1 3 5 Joe Sofia 19 18 1 2 4 Zack Foxhoven 19 5 0 2 2 Patrick Matchett 15 14 0 2 2 Zack Zerrenner 10 4 0 2 2 Andrew Tusaazemajja 18 8 0 1 1 Matt Wiet 21 21 0 0 0 Michael Roman 12 0 0 0 0 Reid Hukari 11 3 0 0 0 Daren Flitcroft 2 0 0 0 0 Dakota Collins 2 1 0 0 0 Oscar Reyes 5 0 0 0 0 Cesar Morales 1 1 0 0 0 Goalkeepers GP GS GA GAA Sv Brian Rowe (1943 min.) 21 21 19 0.88 84 Kevin Weiner (5 min.) 1 0 0 0.00 0 Trevor Hunter (12 min.) 1 0 1 7.37 0 Final Pac-10 Standings School Overall Rec. In addition to Rowe's nine assists, he also has six goals and has thus had a hand in nearly half of UCLA's 36 goals this year. Six of Arreola's seven assists have come in conference play, and he ranks second in the Pac-10 in that category for conference games-only. Young Defenders Playing Like Veterans UCLA's backline of freshman Joe Sofia, sophomore transfer Matt Wiet, junior Shawn Singh and freshman Patrick Matchett only have six seasons of collegiate experience between the four of them, but they have been playing like seasoned veterans, helping goalkeeper Brian Rowe record eight solo and one shared shutout this year. The Bruins have a team goals against average of 0.92 for the year and a Pac-10-best 0.49 in conference play, and their nine shutouts are the most by a UCLA team since 2005. Three Bruins Named To All-Rookie Team Defender Joe Sofia, midfielder Kelyn Rowe and forward Victor Chavez were selected to Top Drawer Soccer's All-Rookie First Team for 2010. Sofia has helped lead the Bruin defense to nine shutouts while scoring a goal and two assists. Rowe ranks second in the Pac-10 in assists with nine and second on the UCLA team with six goals and 21 points. Chavez is the Pac-10 leader in goals scored with nine and ranks second in the conference with 23 points. Kelyn Rowe Named Pac-10 Freshman Of The Year Midfielder Kelyn Rowe became the second consecutive and fifth overall Bruin player to be named the Pac-10's Freshman of Year. Rowe joins Amobi Okugo (2009), Sal Zizzo (2005), Chad Barrett (2003) and Alex Yi (2000) as the other Bruins to win the postseason accolade. Rowe leads the Bruin in assists (9) and is second in points (21) and goals (6). He was also named to the All-Pac-10 first team and was the only freshman to earn first-team honors. Nine Bruins Named To All-Pac-10 Squad UCLA landed nine players on the 2010 All-Pac-10 teams, including two on the first team. Receiving first-team all-conference honors were Pac-10 Freshman of the Year Kelyn Rowe and junior midfielder/defender Andy Rose. Junior midfielder Eder Arreola, freshman forward Victor Chavez, junior goalkeeper Brian Rowe and junior defender Shawn Singh received second-team acclaim. Sophomore midfielders Ryan Hollingshead and Evan Raynr and freshman forward Reed Williams picked up honorable mention nods. School Record Six Bruins Earn Pac-10 All-Academic Honors An all-time program-best six UCLA men's soccer players were selected to the Pac-10 All-Academic teams. Sophomore forward Chandler Hoffman earned firstteam honors. Sophomore midfielders Ryan Hollingshead and Evan Raynr were named to the second team, and juniors Andy Rose, Brian Rowe and Shawn Singh received honorable mention acclaim. Big Draw UCLA was a big draw at the turnstiles in 2010, averaging 2,356 fans in its 21 games this season, including an impressive 3,593 average in 10 road games. Amongst the top recruits in the class are All-Americans Victor Chavez, Earl Edwards, Zack Foxhoven, Kelyn Rowe and Reed Williams, along with Joe Sofia and Patrick Matchett, who were ranked in the Top 25 of Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Players to Watch. Coaching Staff Jorge Salcedo Head Coach 7th Year UCLA '02 In his seventh season as head coach, former UCLA All-American Jorge Salcedo is enjoying one of his finest seasons, taking a very young Bruin squad to the NCAA Quarterfinals and to 16 victories, the most during his head coaching tenure. A product of UCLA's strong soccer tradition, Salcedo has maintained the Bruins' standard for success, winning four Pac-10 titles and guiding his teams to NCAA Tournament appearances each year. He signed the No. 1 recruiting classes in the nation in 2010, 2006 and 2004, and those players produced results, advancing all the way to the NCAA Championship game in the 2006 season and to the quarterfinals in 2009 and 2010. Over the last three seasons, the Bruins have won two Pac-10 titles and advanced to two NCAA quarterfinals while recording a 20-4-6 conference and 38-13-11 overall record. In 2009, Salcedo's Bruins won their second-straight Pac-10 Championship in 2009, going 5-1-4 in conference play and 12-4-4 overall and advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals. Two Bruins - Kyle Nakazawa and Brian Perk - earned All-America honors, and a school record-tying five players were selected in the MLS SuperDraft at the conclusion of the season. In 2008, Salcedo guided UCLA to the Pac-10 Championship and was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the second time in his tenure. The Bruins finished with a 10-5-6 record, and junior midfielder Michael Stephens earned Pac-10 Player of the Year honors and Soccer America MVP second team acclaim. His 2007 team extended UCLA's post-season appearance streak to 25 consecutive years, advancing to the NCAA second round. The Bruins, who finished with a 9-9-3 record, scored in the classroom, with 24 of 30 team members making the Director's Honor Roll during the school year. The 2006 Bruins faced an uphill battle with injuries to several starters throughout the season, but they fought through the adversity and ended a successful post-season run in the title game with a final season record of 14-6-4. In 2005, Salcedo's Bruins recorded a 12-5-3 record and ranked amongst the best in the nation in team defense, allowing just 14 goals and posting a team goals against average of 0.67. The Bruins also captured the Pac-10 title for the fourth year in a row and earned a No. 5 seeding in the NCAA Tournament. During his first season, Salcedo earned Pac-10 Co-Coach of the Year honors after leading UCLA to its third-straight conference title. His Bruins ended the regular season ranked No. 3 by Soccer America and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament, where they finished the year with a 14-4-2 record. Salcedo was UCLA's assistant coach from 2001-03 and helped lead the Bruins to the 2002 NCAA Championship and to two Pac-10 team championships. In 2002, he served as acting head coach in a crucial road victory at Stanford in November that helped the Bruins capture their first-ever Pac-10 title. He also served as acting head coach in the spring of 2002 in the coaching transition between Todd Saldaña and Tom Fitzgerald and had served in a similar capacity after Fitzgerald announced his resignation. Salcedo, who is a scout for the U.S. National Team, was the head coach of the 2002 U-16 SoCal ODP State team and was also the assistant coach of the U-17 team in 2001. The Cerritos, Calif. native had an illustrious career at UCLA from 1990-93. Salcedo was a four-year starter, playing 74 games and tallying six goals and seven assists for 19 points. As a freshman, he scored the decisive penalty kick in the shootout during the 1990 NCAA Championship game to give UCLA its second national title. In 1993 as a senior, he earned NSCAA first-team All-America honors. He prepped at Cerritos HS, where he earned two Parade All-America honors. Salcedo played for five years in Major League Soccer (MLS). In his first season in the league, he was a starter for the Los Angeles Galaxy and helped take his team to the MLS Championship game.
