April is national school library month. Many of the popular movies in the last few years are based on books written for teens. Divergent, The 5th Wave, Ms Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children, The Giver, Ender s Game and The Maze Runner are just a few and we have copies of all of these books in our Learning Commons Library. During testing is a great time to have a relaxing book to read, stop by the Learning Commons and let Mrs. Reagin or Mr. Eastman help you pick out a book you will enjoy reading! Every time you check out a book this month your name will be entered into a drawing for free new and popular books.

Did You Know that 8 th grade students have several opportunities to take classes for high school credit? These classes allow students more room in their schedules in high school to pursue higher level / more specialized courses or to take more exploratory courses. Below are the current opportunities that HBMS provides: Intro to Art Semester long Connections class Application to Ms. Marbry required for students interested in pursuing higher level art classes at the high school level. Intro to Engineering Year long Connections class Application to Mr. Pawlowski required for students interested in pursuing higher level engineering classes at the high school level Foreign language Year long classes Students who successfully complete both 7 th and 8 th grade Spanish or French with a B or higher receive 1 year equivalent of foreign language high school credit. Algebra I or Algebra I/Geometry A (accelerated) Year long math classes requires prior completion of Math 8, teacher recommendation and/or test placement. Physical Science - Year long science class -- requires prior completion of Life Science 7, teacher recommendation and/or test placement 9 th Grade Literature and Composition Year long ELA class requires prior completion of ELA 8, teacher recommendation, and/or test placement.

Operation: Get Organized! Holcomb Bridge is tackling a schoolwide initiative to improve our students organizational skills. Our school supply list for next year will give students the tools needed to be successful. We will incorporate binder set up and organization checks into our content classrooms and Hawk 30 lessons. Girls CHS and Junior Knights Volleyball Information Calling All Rising 9th grade Girls for Knights Volleyball! Tryouts will be April 26 from 6-8pm (Registration begins 5:15pm) & April 27th 6-8pm (doors open 5:30pm) in the CHS Main Gym. Physicals are required so please take advantage of the CHS Free Physicals on Saturday 4/15 at 10:45am. Junior Knights Summer Girls Volleyball Camp: July 17-19 from 9:30am-1:30pm in CHS Main Gym for all rising 6th-8th graders Junior Knights Tryouts for Rising 6th-8th graders are tentatively scheduled for the week of August 1 st info coming SOON! VERY IMPORTANT UPDATES/REMINDERS...rising 9th-12th grader (as of August 2017)... OPEN GYM ANNOUNCED CHS AUX GYM...4/14(Fri) & 4/21 (Fri) 5-7pm prior to Tryouts we are opening the Auxiliary Gym up for ANYONE that would like to come out for practice/scrimmage. This will be self-managed by players in attendance with the purpose to get some conditioning/ball touches prior to tryouts. FREE PHYSICALS...4/15 (Sat) 10:45am ONLY; you must bring the attached forms attached or you CANNOT participate. See note from Jeff Burch (CHS- AD) below: Student check in will be at the downstairs entrance in between the Auxiliary Gym and Main Gym. The following MUST be completed BEFORE any athlete can get their physical completed. Fill out the attached Physical Form (paper copies available outside H75) Fill out all items on p. 69 and 70 Parent AND Student signatures required on p. 69 and 70. o Athletes without parent signatures will not be able to receive a physical All athletes will also be able to submit ALL required medical, insurance and clearance paperwork online. You will need to upload a copy of your physical to Privit to be complete and cleared for the 2017-18 school year. All athletes will need to take a picture of their physical on their phone for upload after their physical. 2-Day High School Tryouts Wed 4/26 6-8pm (check-in 1st day beginning at 5:15pm) and again on Thursday 4/27 6-8pm (check-in 2nd day 5:30pm)...coaches will post all team on Volleyball website High School Commitment Night CHS Cafeteria 7-8pm...JV Tues 5/2, Varsity Wed 5/3 and Freshman Thurs 5/4 High School Player Fees $600 ($500 + $100 Midas Fundraising) more information at Commitment Night once you have made a team, Coaches will contact with conditioning schedule. If you have never played a sport or have never played Volleyball but you are involved in other sports at CHS like basketball, lacrosse, soccer etc we highly encourage you to come tryouts; as we stated at our meeting last night, you never know until you try and coaches will take this into consideration while evaluating. Open Gym on 4/14 and 4/18 is the perfect time to come out and see if Volleyball is for YOU!! If you can catch a quick summer clinic it is always helpful in order to stay competitive, links to some of the clubs our community/players/coaches represent are below. ALL PLAYERS must have a NEW health form completed by a physician in order to tryout, this year you CANNOT use a current health form already on file for another sport as this will not be valid once school ends and conditioning begins this summer (county/athletic rules). Student Health Services Rising 7 th grade Students and New Entrants Immunization Changes Georgia's immunization requirements have changed for children entering 7th grade (who were born on or after January 1, 2002) and for students who are considered "new entrants" in grades 8-12. Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, these students will be required to have Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) and MCV (meningococcal conjugate) vaccines prior to entering school. A "new entrant" means any child entering a Georgia school for the first time or entering after having been absent for more than 12 months or one school year. Immunization requirements have not changed for children entering prekindergarten and kindergarten or for those already enrolled in a Georgia school for grades 1-6 and 8-12. Parents should plan to have their child vaccinated well in advance of the start of the 2017-2018 school year. Students will not be able to register or receive class schedules unless they submit proof of these vaccines or provide documentation for exemptions.
