President s Message Dear Members, Fall, in my opinion, is the best time of the year to enjoy golf with the cool nights and warm days. The course looks great and the greens will be getting smoother and faster. I am really excited with the condition of the course and would like to thank Terry and his crew for getting us through the heat and humidity to the cooler temperatures. The Board appreciates your support of the assessment to cover operating expenses. We are currently evaluating a budget for next year, with our goal being to 691 balance the budget to meet the current number of members. We have received many suggestions and are reviewing each closely. One of the main themes of the suggestions is that we need lower dues to get more members. As a Board, we realized this and that is why we tried to implement a matrix that would lower dues based on the number of people that join. Unfortunately we have not had a large influx of new members. We will continue to explore other avenues and work on increasing our membership. October 17 th at 5:00 p.m. we will have our Annual Membership meeting. The focus of the meeting will be the tabulation of votes for our new board nominees; Gib Carpenter, Mike Hocutt, and Tom Pangburn. I would like to thank the search committee, Bill Dennis, John Rand and Tim Pipkins, for interviewing and nominating our candidates. chairman). There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers with the board and staff, so please plan on attending. October looks to be a great month with an increase of events. Please check out the calendar so you will not be disappointed with a conflict. In closing, I would like to encourage everyone to visit the Club, bring guests and enjoy the course and fall weather. Also, please remember to fix your ball marks and divots. Your President, Royce LoBianco WELCOME NEW MEMBERS Patrick and Lisa Curton---Associate Austin and Susan Brightop---Corp. Manager s Message October is Member-Guest month at Maumelle CC. This year s event promises to be a great time for all involved. Just a reminder: The golf course will be open for non-participant play all three days, so please contact the Pro Shop for those times if you are interested. The clubhouse will be closed to non-participants due to the 1029 Member- Guest functions. However, the Men s Locker Room will be serving a limited menu of sandwiches and hot dogs during the event. With the Fall season approaching, the golf schedule comes to a close and the banquet/event schedule starts to become active. Please check your calendar for all of our events, private parties and the Chef s daily specials. Congratulations to David Bunting for being elected to the Arkansas Golf Course Superintendent s Association Board of Directors. David is the first sales representative to serve on the Board! Cimarron Grubb General Manager On the course with Terry Spurlock It s not often that September is hotter and drier than August but that is exactly what has happened. With such a dry September, the limitations of the irrigation system have become evident. There is still much work to be done in many areas of the course regarding the irrigation system s performance. Golf maintenance will spend the off-season addressing this issue as we have done the last two off seasons. We would also like to make additions where the budget allows. Most of the roughs have no irrigation and a few extra heads here and there would make a big difference in turf quality. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Clark Power (Mike Hocutt) for the use of one of their backhoes. Because of Mike s generosity and willingness to help, golf maintenance was able to complete many projects and important irrigation repairs in a cost effective and timely manner. I would also like to thank the 13th Ponders for the meal they provided for all of the golf maintenance staff. Not only was the food delicious but also the gesture meant more to my staff than the Ponders know. I ve not heard of another club with a membership so willing to help and show appreciation. This is a good place! Have a great fall and enjoy the course. Terry Spurlock
