August 17 th, 2012 Meeting Summary Presiding: President Mark Engstrom Pledge: Jeff Post Blessing: Tim Carnahan Song: River City High School Prep Band Raffle: Valued at $776 Ed Rounthwaite s ticket was selected but he failed to find the Joker in the deck and received a Marko Buck for a free lunch. SPEAKER PROGRAM August 24 th Courtney Holmes Owner Talk is Sheep Marketing Talk is Sheep Marketing is a local internet marketing company specializing in social media marketing. Courtney received her Master's in Mass Communication in 2008 from the University of South Florida where she focused on multi-media journalism. She worked as a reporter for the local paper, The Tampa Bay Times and WUSF, the local National Public Radio station, before moving out to Sacramento, California. In Sacramento, still passionate about non-profit journalism, she went to work for Capital Public Radio as a sales executive in corporate sponsorship. In 2010, she left to start Talk is Sheep Marketing to help small to medium size businesses harness new media to build their business and achieve their marketing goals. All 4 coaches spoke to the assembled audience about their respective football programs. All traded friendly barbs and heaped praise for their fellow and competing coaches as they all have known each other for many years. Although RCHS is in a different level than CB, the coaches promised RCHS would be present and try everything including passing. All coaches agreed, Friday, August 24 th would be a great game at RCHS Football field. Be there! Our 2012-13: Worldwide EREY fundraising goal (Annual Fund goal) is US$120 million. Prez Mark reported that Past Prez Jeff had a recent fall from his bicycle as he was walking his dog Delia. Delia ran in front of the front wheel tossing Jeff with a face plant on the pavement. The good news; the pavement and Delia survived! Not so much for the bike or Jeff. Along with his gash, Jeff dislocated his shoulders and sprained his wrists. Ouch! Past Prez Jeff Post seen with 6 stiches in forehead and one sore body Dick Marshall presented Jeff Post a crash helmet and a safer wheeled vehicle for his dog walks. OBJECT OF ROTARY The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian s occupation as an opportunity to serve society; THIRD: The application of ideal of service by every Rotarian to his/her/ personal, business and community life; FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideals of service. CHIPS FROM THE BUZZSAW Volume 64, Issue 7 7 For more than six decades the men and women of Rotary have worked with BloodSource to ensure that the community blood supply is safe and plentiful. Throughout District 5180 the people of Rotary have saved the lives of people with cancer, accident victims, and people having surgery, mothers who encounter problems at childbirth and children with leukemia. The Challenge this Rotary year will run until just before the District Conference in May, 2013. We will present one award for the most total donations per club and one for and highest percentage of total club membership.
