Sandy Beach Yacht Club, 1851 Winter Road/P.O. Box 513, Grand Island, NY 14072 716-773-7716 www.sandybeachyachtclub.com information@sandybeachyachtclub.com Congratulations to our newest junior member Joshua Jesz, son of Italo and Leah Baldassarre who was approved at the January board meeting. Josh has been around a lot at work nights helping bartend at the new Over the Yardarm pub and recently volunteered to help at the New Year s reception. The club also has a new secretary, Ana Nizialek who took over from Frank Spagnolo as of January 18 th. She has hit the ground running, and I know will do a great job. Thanks Frank for your years of dedicated service in the secretary position. The club calendar was approved and posted to club website. A few things to point out: First, the spring general membership meeting will be moved back to Friday, April 21 st. Please mark this date in your calendar and also in your 2016 membership book as the date listed is March 3 rd. We moved the date to attract more members who have wintered in warmer weather. Secondly, the Commodore s Ball will be Saturday, September 30 th this year. I know traditionally we have used the first Saturday in October, but once every seven years this date falls on Columbus Day weekend. Last year when we had our ball on the holiday weekend we experienced a large drop in attendance, around 20% fewer members. The date of September 30 th will be one week prior to Columbus Day weekend, which it normally is. This was mentioned at the recent Interclub planning breakfast, and it doesn t conflict with any other club Commodore s Ball date. The Valentine s party is off to a good start, as we may easily have 110-120 attending. If you haven t already RSVP d yet, please do so to Frank Spagnolo or use the automated system sent out in email. See you there. Commodore Dan Brown
Hello again, as you may have noticed there is no ice on the lake. Not sure if that s good or bad at this point, but in the end it should cause the boom to be removed sooner than later. Slip applications have been coming in at a steady pace. Please remember if you are returning to the basin this year the deadline for those applications is TODAY. Please get ahold of me ASAP if you intend on returning as I will be making slip assignments this month and posting them in the club on March 01, 2017, as required, based on the information available to me at this time. Slip holders meeting will be held Saturday March 25, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a briefing at 11:00 a.m. by the Erie County Sheriffs Marine division and the Customs and Border Protection Marine unit. Additional agencies to be announced. We are also looking to see if we can get a few Insurance Agents that specialize in Marine insurance to be available for questions and possibly shopping around for better rates. Lunch will be available for a minimal fee and the bar will be open. The law enforcement briefing is open to all members and guests. Please consider attending and bring any questions you would like answered. A flyer with additional details will be posted in the March Ditty Bag. Take Care, Jose
