Ghostman on Third VA Atlantic Spring 2010 Volume 1, Issue 4 May 16, 2010 Week 3 and it s just getting better First off, let me start by apologizing for the delay in getting this weeks GMOT to you. First I had work obligations that I had to take care of. And as I am sure the rest of you already know, the WAKA GMOT does not generate me any income (although I wish it did), so I have to pay my bills somehow. Plus, I had a large hand in organizing the Tidewater Kickball Bowl (aka Tidey Bowl) which also took up a large portion of my time. Unfortunately this means that over the past couple of weeks, I haven t had the time to dedicate to the GMOT. But I m back now and you can get the information you loved and deserved before once again. With that being said I am giving to you now, a condensed and combined GMOT that will be a double issue of sorts. It will have a recaps and scores from Weeks 4 and 5. Then in the next GMOT I will have a special Next to the End of the Season announcement. And now for your viewing pleasure. This weeks GMOT. Oh. And as always... A continued thanks to Will Buker, Christy Daly, Jessica Doll, Patrick Hayes, Wendy Lewis, Gerry Malig, Kenneth Merritt, Lauren Sauer, and Samantha Savage (and their Facebook pages) for providing pictures and content for the GMOT. Sincerely Your Humble President, John Wilkinson johnpwilks@gmail.com. Page 2
Sons of Pitches 9 Where My Pitches At 2 Superman has his kryptonite. The Mets have the Phillies. Rosie has sandwiches. Everyone has that one thing they struggle with. Apparently ours is Where My Pitches At? WMPA has given us the two hardest games all season. They're a top notch defensive team and definitely don't allow big innings. In fact, they held us scoreless for the first two innings. We tacked on some "here and there" runs in the last few frames but it was definitely a close battle. If they can get their offense to come around, WMPA could be contenders in the tournament. Proud of my pitches for not taking this team for granted and getting it in gear at the end. Funky Toe Jammin 3 WAKAHOLICKS 0 Special Sauce 6 Balls of Fury 3 A lot can be said about the game between Balls of Fury and Special Sauce. We could talk more about Mike s yellow cleats and green socks. We could ask what the hell John W. did with his hair. But the real question is who was the guy in leather lounging in the beach chair outside of the fence? Oh and Special Sauce won... Page 3
Ghostman on Third Volume 1, Issue 3 booz klooz 14 There are 2 things that you will never hear out of my mouth about Balls and Dolls. The first is that they are forfeiting because they don t have enough players (they always seem to have enough); or that this team doesn t have fun. Charger Bobby Fields and Pitcher Jay Lewis, lead the cheering section, while the rest of the team makes sure that this team wins the Team Spirit award EVERY week with face paint and costumes. They will always be one of my favorite teams. This team should develop a logo and be grandfathered in to kickball. Their team is what kickball is all about. Kickbrawlers 5 Balls and Dolls 4 WAKAHOLICKS 1 If pictures really could speak a thousand words, the two below would tell you everything you need to know about the WAKAHOLICKS season. When the season started, they showed tons of promise and potential and started off with a 3 0 record and were at the top of the standings. Since then, they have become losers of 6 straight, including the 5 3 loss in a rematch of their second victory of Week 1. Don t take this as a knock on the Kickbrawlers though, as they have been competitive in each and every game. Page 4
Ghostman on Third Volume 1, Issue 3 Balls of Fury 3 Atlantic Bay Homies 2 Where My Pitches At 6 Balls and Dolls 4 Sons of Pitches 8 Funky Toe Jammin 0 I remember playing them in Week 1 and they were a lot of fun then. Still new to the game, they asked a lot of questions about rules, strategies, etc In week 4, they were just as much fun but didn't ask those questions. And you could tell it was because they didn't need to. With a firm grasp on the rules, they were out there playing solid kickball. Tip of the cap to their short fielder who made a great stumbling catch. No complaints about this team at all as they were a blast to play and we'd love to play them again. Pitches used (what else?) speed and more speed to put runs on the board. I think Tyler actually gets faster when Journey "Don't Stop Believing" is playing. What is scarier Tyler getting faster or Journey is the key to his speed? FTJ would like to take a moment and take a break from the world of kickball and remind everyone that kickball is just part of the fun of life. So as an exercise, I would like everyone to follow their example. Stop what you are doing. Go to the nearest radio. Crank that sonofabitch up. Then dance!!!! Thank You and Have a nice Day!!! Page 5

Atlantic Kickballers, the votes are in with a sweeping vote for: OTHER. Our charity efforts this season will benefit a local boy, Landon Bucher, whose family is known by many Atlantic Kickballers and for whom an irrevocable trust has been set up. We'll do our best to keep you posted on the many events taking place in the area to raise funds for this cause. LANDON BUCHER IRREVOCABLE TRUST When Landon Bucher was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in July, 2009, his parents began a trust to help raise money so they could cover the costs associated with his treatment. As a five year old, Landon has spent more than 80% of his days in the hospital at Children s Hospital of the Kings Daughters (CHKD) or at Duke University Hospital. Thanks to recent fundraising efforts, Landon had a bone marrow transplant on December 8th at Duke University Hospital. The family is quickly approaching their insurance limit, so they need our help. In addition, Landon's father, Jim Bucher, has a long term vision to start a non profit to help raise money for Children s Leukemia Awareness and Research. Page 9

to THE SITUATION For their 2nd place finish in the Tidewater Kickball Open (TKO III). Members of booz klooz and of Where My Pitches At, fought through 7 grueling games of kickball against teams up and down the east coast and came home with the 2nd place trophy. While they did not win the big prize, they were able to beat national powerhouse The Meatballs from Fort Lauderdale, FL. 1 0 during the Pool Play rounds. (The Meatballs got their revenge in the end though, winning 4 0 in the championship game). Page 11
