The CKA is a nonprofit organization in place to maintain a safe environment and a consistent set of rules for martial arts competitors. NEW FOR 2014 TRADITIONAL WEAPONS New Traditional Weapons divisions: No Release moves and NO GYMNASTICS. All of which are still allowed in Contemporary Weapons divisions. We have a new venue for the CKA season opener. The new location is the Larimer County Fairgrounds in the First Natl. Bank North Exhibit Hall, just 40 minutes North of Denver. CKA SPECIAL ELECTION In order to replace a CKA Board member who has resigned, the Colorado Karate Association is holding a Special election. This is for a non-officer position for only one year. If you have ever wanted to participate but were worried about the commitment, now is your chance! You must be an Advanced or Black Belt, a CKA voting member, and have 5 years of business experience to qualify. Please send your resume to Vice President Jean Paschke. Gymnastics and release moves are still allowed in CONTEMPORARY WEAPONS divisions. Music is not allowed in either weapons division. Point Sparring Rules All Point Sparring and Forms divisions will adhere to the 2014 CKA Rules (See CKA website for full set of rules www.coloradokarateassociation.org) Coaching: Coaching is allowed in all sparring divisions. The coach must have a valid coaching pass and must wear it in plain view while inside the competition area. Bracketing: In order to be as fair as possible to all competitors, bracketing will be done by random draw at ringside. Point Values to any legal target: One point is scored for a hand strike or body kick. Two points are scored for a controlled kick to the head or spinning kick to the body. 3 points for any spinning kick to the head, or jump spinning kick to a legal target area. Legal Target Areas: Head & Face, Sides of Neck, Chest, Abdominal Area, Torso, Kidneys. The Groin is a legal target in adult Intermediate and above divisions only. Illegal Target Areas: Throat, Back of Neck, Spine, Legs, Knees, Head on a downed opponent. Warnings and Penalties for Illegal Techniques: 1 st infraction receives a warning, 2 nd, opponent receives 1 point, 3 rd is automatic disqualification. Ring officials may waive a warning and issue either a penalty point, or decide to disqualify the offender immediately. Running out of bounds is an automatic point over to opponent. All competitors must wear mouthpieces, groin cups mandatory for all male competitors. Flying Dragons and Handicapable Divisions The Flying Dragons Division is meant for those Karate kids 5 years and younger who are not quite ready for the 6 and under division; a great way to introduce the younger Karateka to competition. The Handicapable division allows our challenged competitors to showcase their talents. The cost of either the Flying Dragons or Handicapable division is the same as an additional division.
