PROGRAM COMMUNITY INITIATIVES Dear Coaches and Administrators: The York Parks & Recreation Department and the York Police Association would like to invite you to our 29TH ANNUAL CHARLIE BROWN MEMORIAL BASKETBALL CLASSIC for boys and girls in grades 3&4, 5&6, and 7&8. The 3/4 & 5/6 divisions are open to all parks & recreation, YMCA, or school sponsored teams or programs ONLY (No AAU, Elite, or similarly organized teams allowed). The 7/8 division is open to all teams regardless of affiliation. The tournament will be held at York Middle School and York High School, Friday, February 22nd, 2019 through Sunday, March 3rd, 2019. The tournament will be DOUBLE elimination and the top two teams in each division will receive awards. Games will be played during the evening on weekdays and during the day and evening on weekends. The tournament fee is $180. The registration deadline will be Thursday, February 7, 2019 if there is space available. Please make checks payable to THE ANNUAL BASKETBALL CLASSIC and have all registration fees and rosters submitted before February 7th. This gives us time to properly organize this event. Charlie Brown Memorial Basketball Classic Tournament Information The Tournament will be double elimination. Team rosters will be limited to a minimum of 8 players and a maximum of 15. Absolutely NO double rostering, including across divisions. Players can be rostered on one team only. Double rostering will result in expulsion from tournament play and/or team forfeiture. All team players must have identical uniforms and all uniforms must be numbered. All officials will be provided through the tournament director. Each team will be responsible for their own valuables. Locker rooms are not available for use. Each team will be responsible for providing a scorekeeper for each game. Scoresheets will be available at the scorer s table. The top two teams in each division will receive awards following their final game. The coach of the team is responsible for the proper conduct of his/her players, other coaches, team members and fans associated with the team as well as his/her own behavior while participating in the tournament. If proper behavior is not exhibited it could result in forfeiture and dismissal from the current and future tournaments. It is also the responsibility of each coach to make players and parents aware of tournament rules. Failure to show for a scheduled game will result in an automatic forfeit for the scheduled game, dismissal from the tournament, and could be subject to a ban from the Charlie Brown Memorial Basketball Classic. Admission fee per day for spectators will be $2.00 per person/$1.00 for students. We will have ticket raffles with tons of great prizes, half-court shooting contests, warm-up music, player introductions, and a concession stand guaranteed to settle your cravings.
GAME RULES ALL TEAMS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE THE COURT UP TO 15 MINUTES PRIOR TO THE SCHEDULED GAME TIME. GAMES MAY START EARLY AT THE REFEREE AND TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR S DISCRETION. All games will be 2 (two), fourteen (14) minute halves, stopped time. In the last 7 minutes of each game, if a team is ahead by more than 25 points the remainder of the game will be played with running time. If the team that is down can bring the spread back within 20 points, stopped time will resume. Basket height: 10ft for all divisions. 3 rd & 4 th grade teams ONLY will have a designated foul line that is 3 feet forward from regulation. 3 rd & 4 th Grade and 5 th & 6 th Grade Divisions NO ZONE DEFENSE, teams are required to man v. man. 3 rd & 4 th grade and 5 th & 6 th grade divisions will be allowed to FULL COURT PRESS in the final two (2) minutes of each half. Once the ball has crossed midcourt all players must return to a man v. man defense. Teams that do not get back will be given a warning at the first and second offense and a technical for the 3 rd offense. There is no press rule for 7th and 8th grade, these teams will be allowed to press at their discretion. All levels NO FULL COURT PRESS allowed if the lead is 15 points or more. Each team will receive three 30 second timeouts and two full timeouts. Two (2) minute overtime, if needed. No additional timeouts will be awarded in overtime. Timeouts can be carried over from regulation. For 3 rd & 4 th and 5 th & 6 th grade divisions, press will be allowed for the duration of overtime (2 minutes). If Necessary championship games will be determined in a one (1) half (14 minute) play-off immediately following the scheduled game. Each team will receive one (1) full timeout and one (1) 30 second timeout. 3 rd & 4 th and 5 th & 6 th grade divisions will be allowed to press in the final 2 minutes. Absolutely NO jewelry will be allowed for any reason during play. Absolutely NO hard casts will be allowed to be worn during play. HAVE FUN! Travel to the top of the hill and take a left at the lights onto York Street/Route 1A. Just down York Street on your right you will see York Street Baptist Church. The church sits on the corner of York Street and Organug Road. Take a right onto Organug Road. Travel about 1/8 of a mile on Organug Road and York Middle School is located on your left. DIRECTIONS TO YORK HIGH SCHOOL 1 Robert Stevens Drive York, Maine 03909 From I-95: take the York Exit (Exit 7), bear right at the lights onto Route 1. Travel to the top of a hill and take a left at the lights onto Route 1A. Travel one mile to the monument and bear left. Travel six-tenths of a mile and turn right onto Long Sands Road. York High School is seven-tenths of a mile on the left.
