Ed. Car of Your Dreams Raffle From Roundel Weekly Car Of Your Dreams Raffle ticket sales will end on Friday, June 6, and the winners will be drawn during the 45th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest Presented By Michelin in Beaver Creek, Colorado, June 16-20. Each ticket is $25 and ensures a 1-in-5000 chance of winning! You could win an M4 with Euro Delivery, an M3, or an M235i! There is no limit to the number of tickets you can purchase. Why We Drive During our OktoberFAST event in 2013, large parts of a movie named Why We Drive were filmed. If you were there you probably remember seeing a white Porsche GT3 Cup car driving in some of your sessions. Shields Bergstrom was driving the 4 GT3 and is producing the movie along with Don Ford Productions and Blackhawk Visual LLC. A couple of trailers for the movie have been posted on the website for the movie WhyWeDrive.com. They are also running crowd fund-raising through a website at Indiegogo. The money raised will be used to help complete post-production for the movie. There are some great perks packages available for making a contribution. 2014 Driver s Ed Events Scheduled For 2014, the Badger Bimmers will hold three driver s education events. Two of the events will be at Blackhawk Farms Raceway near Rockton, IL. The Blackhawk events are scheduled for Monday, August 16th and Monday, August 4th. OktoberFAST will be at Road America at the end of September, scheduled for Friday, September 26th through Sunday, September 29th. Friday is reserved for our advanced students and instructors. We ll also hold an instructor clinic for new instructors on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be run groups for novice, intermediate and advanced students as well as instructors. Registration for all three events will be done through motorsportreg.com. Registration for both Blackhawk events opened on March 1st. Registration for OktoberFAST will open on June 1st. Last year OktoberFAST was full by the first of August. Don t miss out on OktoberFAST register early. Driving School Insurance Many automole insurance policies now exclude coverage for events that take place on a race track. The only way to know if your policy still covers driving schools is to read your policy. If you find that your policy does not cover our driving schools you can purchase event insurance from Lockton Affinity Motorsports (http://locktonmotorsports.com/ product/track-insurance/). BMW CCA members get a discount on the purchase of both single and multiple event driving school insurance. www.badgermmers.org

From the President Erik Ivarson Up to Speed... Spring Is Here! After 52 days of snowfall and one top 10 coldest winters, happy Spring! Even the salt from last week has been rained away. Our two BMW daily drivers survived winter, but they have a mysterious growth on the floor mats. No, I did not have winter mats in the car. Now I have stalagmites. I try to kick off the slush before getting in the car, even get the kids to once in a while, but the briny build up has turned to rock. The floor mat is crusted rigid with salt after the water evaporated out of the carpet. Warm soapy water and several applications might save a mess like this, but better would be to call Weathertech! I think they even have mats for the back of the wagon. From the photos, one wash is not enough. The frost heaves have started to settle down, and my backing plates are still secure. An email and photo from Bill Nicoud showed he had to make the same repair on his 325xit. He repaired the one first. I wonder when the other will break loose. March had Mike, Darcy and I flying down to Dallas for the Chapter Congress and Driving Events Committee meetings. The loss of a Spaten as sponsor was a downer! Maybe next time they can relocate to a state that knows how to brew beer. At least the coffee was ok. Takeaways from the meeting: Iowa is great at membership growth and retention; Street Survival is growing and they want us to run yearly events; National is healthy for now, but budgets need watching; BMWCCA. org continues to evolve, new version out soon; and from the DEC, Ice autocross (a Boston thing) is allowed to run without helmets and the Board/DEC are working on a Solo Advanced classification for drivers who scare the instructors too much. Street Survival was my focus in Dallas. Bill Wade has over 100 teen driving events on the calendar for 2014. May 10, the date of our cleanups around the state, is a Street Survival at MATC-South. The SCCA is holding the event and I will be there to help with coaching and get wise for our turn. Since coaches are almost as important as students, a guide was developed for prospective instructors. This should have us talking the same language about car control whether the person is an instructor, racer, tech guy or autocrosser. The Street Survival Learning Center class took me about 45 minutes. Well worth it! Remember to visit the calendar at BadgerBimmers.org and come to an event! This is the season to enjoy your Ultimate driving Machine! may 2014 5
