It was early, before sunrise, when Wakalele, our African safari guide, calmly stated "There is a lion walking there". It was a male. Suddenly we saw two more lions. One was a female, and the other had to be one of the most magnificent male lions I had ever laid eyes on! What a way to begin our morning game drive. It was wonderful to be on safari in Kenya again! "Everything in Africa bites, but the safari bug is worst of all. ~ Brian Jackman SIGN UP FOR OUR NEWSLETTER Black Maned Lion Canon 1D-Mark lll: Canon 100-400 IS He was a large animal. As he walked his muscles rippled beneath his skin exuding a sense power, pride and dominance. His thick black mane, gently caressed by the early morning breeze, appeared groomed, as though he had just stepped out a beauty salon.

He was absolutely magnificent! Our July trip was a a private safari for our family and friends. There was a total 18 of us. I was feeling a certain amount of pressure to ensure we had a great safari because they are family and friends and I hope to spend considerable time with them in the future. I am happy to say that both Kenya and Tanzania delivered! Everyone was thrilled and even better, they are all still talking to each other and have become better friends too! We can hardly wait to get together at our upcoming trip reunion to share our favorite memories and photos from the trip. Baboons snuggled together on a branch after a good nights rest up in a large tree. Canon 1D Mark lll: Canon 100-400 IS Upcoming Safari Schedule Kenya - 17 days September 4-20, 2008 Yea! Leaving soon! We have only three passengers per nine passenger safari vehicle. You will enjoy plenty of space for you and your equipment!

We stay in luxury safari lodges. View lodges You do not have to be a photographer but you must enjoy watching the wildlife because that is what we do! I will be there to photograph with you and available to answer your questions. Parks we visit on our safaris. View parks I hope you will join me for an African Safari; your adventure of a lifetime!!! For more information, prices and itineraries click here. To reserve your space on a safari, please call Paul Renner at (949) 295-3136, email him at paulrenner3@cox.net or call Prem Sharma at Somak Safaris (800) 757-6625 On safari I am happy to share my photographic knowledge with my clients. You do not have to be a photographer to go on the trips, however you should enjoy watching wildlife because that is our main focus. Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania is 12 Miles wide and two to three thousand feet deep. It is a World Heritage Site inside of which live nearly 30,000 large animals. Giraffe and impala are not found inside the crater, but on any given day's game drive one may see all of the other well known species including the "big five" (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhino). Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania Five photo panorama stitched together in Photoshop CS3 Canon 20D: Canon 28-105 Tarangire National Park is famous not only for large herds of elephants and buffalo, but also for its numerous giant baobab trees.

From Under the Baobab Tree Canon 20D: Canon 17-40 Baobab trees are also useful as rest stops and scratching post.

Elephant Leaning Against A Baobab Tree Canon 20D: Canon 17-40 Or as a hide out for part of a fun safari group. Canon 20D: Canon 17-40 Copyright 2008, Lauren McCain On our Safaris we stay in first class luxury lodges and camps. For information and photos of the lodges and accommodations click here. Important Safari Information: Our tours are limited to 18 people, including the leaders. We have only 3 passengers per 9 passenger vehicle giving us plenty of space for our photo equipment. We can photograph through windows on BOTH sides of the vehicle and also from the top, which pops up to create shade so you are protected from the hot, equatorial sun. Compared to other tours, that pack the vans with up to eight people, this is a huge deal! As we leave the lodges, the vehicles separate and spread out. This allows us to have six guides out looking for wildlife. They each have radios to let each other know what they find. This way no one misses out on seeing the wildlife and with six great guides, you can hardly believe all of the wildlife they find. Our guides are amazing!

Our safaris really are the trip of a lifetime! I can hardly believe how fortunate I was to have been born and grown up in East Africa. Now that I am able to take people with me and share what I know about photography along with my personal experiences of Africa, I am thrilled so many clients return and say to me "that was the best trip I have ever been on" or "thank you for the vacation of a lifetime! I want to go again in a year or two!" Black Rhino are beginning to make a comeback from the edge of extinction. In all of Tanzania, there are only about thirty of them, all in Ngorongoro Crater. They are most often seen at a distance. While in the Masai Mara in Kenya, we were fortunate to get up close and personal with this female. Black Rhino Canon 1D-Mark lll: Canon 100-400 IS Africa is not limited to big game, her birdlife is also spectacular. In many of the parks there are three to four hundred species of birds. Many of them adorn the trees like beautiful jewels.

Superb Starling Canon 1D-Mark lll: Canon 100-400 IS Lilac Breasted Rollers are often seen sitting on branches along the outer edges of trees vigilantly watching for their chance to swoop down on an unsuspecting grasshopper for a hearty meal.

Lilac Breasted Roller Canon 1D-Mark lll: Canon 400mm 5.6 Art Show Season is in full swing again! Click here to see if I will be at a show near you. I would love to have you stop by for a visit or come to see my latest work Another Mara River crossing! Check back in my next newsletter to see if the wildebeest or the crocodile won this one!

Wildebeest and Crocodile Canon 1D-Mark lll: Canon 400mm 5.6 Africa is famous for spectacular sunrises and sunsets. Each day our morning game drive begins before sunrise. On our afternoon game drives, we return to the lodge just after sunset. This gives us the best opportunities to photograph this incredible beauty.
