Thank you Hannah for your hard work and the great job you have done! This week, Mrs Townsend returns. Welcome back Mrs Townsend! Thank you also to Mrs Grobler for the great job you have done teaching 5A over the last five weeks. Sounds to Letters: This week s sound focus is er sound. Common letter combinations that make this sound are er (fern), ir (bird), ur (fur), or (worm). A less common letter choice is ear (learn). Behaviour Focus: This week s behaviour focus is resilience. Resilience means not getting angry or worried, or calming down when you get very upset, then bounding back to work or play. You can show that you are resilient by not getting angry or fighting when someone says something mean to you, fixing up mistakes in your work without getting angry or upset, or by calming down when you are upset and continuing on with your work. Prep-Year One Athletics Carnival: A reminder... Next Tuesday, 3 rd June, is our Prep-Year One athletics carnival. The event begins at 11am and should be finished by 2:30pm. Please encourage your child to dress in their house colours, and bring a hat, water bottle and sunscreen. We hope to see you there supporting your child/ children.

Page 3 of 12 Cross Country: On the 3 rd June, Tori, Jahrah, Kaylee, Blake and Aidan will compete in the Central Highlands team at Rockhampton for a chance to be selected in the Capricornia team. We wish these students all the best at the next level. School Song: Some parents have requested a copy of the school song that they can download and print, to take to school parades. Please click on the school song link. State Education Week: Our school leaders very proudly represented Moranbah East State School at the display in Coles on Friday, to promote State Education Week. They handed out brochures to the Moranbah community with information about the Moranbah Kindy Alliance to help with the transition for Kindy kids heading into Prep next year. Page 5 of 12 Under 8's Day Photos Music School Song Junior Music Dear parents and care-givers, Mrs Cairns will be offering your children an opportunity to take part in the new and exciting PREP choir. The first sign-on session was at first lunch last Wednesday. If for whatever reason your child could not attend sign-on, they are welcome to collect a choir letter from Mrs Cairns in her Music Room. Best wishes for an exceptional 2014. Crystal Cairns Instrumental Music News It has been a very busy semester one for the instrumental music program at Moranbah East State School, which has seen the program continue to grow. At this stage we have a total of 48 budding musicians, an awesome effort! Now that our little juniors are starting to really hit their straps on their instruments the performances will start coming. Our first concert will be on the 18 th of June where we will unveil the Junior Concert Band for the first time in 2014. Other musical groups will also perform on the evening including the, Senior Concert Band, Junior and Senior Choirs and some guest artist from the High School! With such a wide variety of instrumental and choral groups it promises to be a fantastic evening! Make sure you don t miss it! Term three is already fully booked for the instrumental program! First week back from holidays we are lucky enough to welcome back the Queensland Youth Orchestra Chamber Ensemble! The ensemble will work with all Senior Instrumental students before performing for the entire school and then the community later in the week! Make sure you watch for notes home about this event! After this exciting visit, the senior students will be back in the rehearsal room working hard to prepare for the Central Highlands Eisteddfod in September! The band will be looking to match is massive success of 2 nd place in 2013 and hopefully come home with 1 st place this year!

Page 6 of 12 As well as having a strong representation in the group section of the Eisteddfod, Moranbah East will have a very strong cohort of musicians competing in the solo and duet section of the Eisteddfod. A total of 13 students have decided to put their hand up and fly the Moranbah East flag! Again another massive effort! The remainder of term two and all of term three promises to be a very busy but exciting time for the Instrumental students of Moranbah East State School! Make sure you watch this space for more news! Page 9 of 12 Minion Meal Deal!!! $6.00 Continuing with our week of Despicable Me 2 themed goodies from the Tuckshop, our meal deal this Friday will be in honour of our favourite Minions. NACHOS (Plain) MINION FRUIT CUP (sml container of rockmelon with a marshmallow 'Minion' eye) JUICE There will be Despicable Me 2 themed goodies available over the counter all this week including our Minion bananas and Grapes. Could all parents please advise us at the Tuckshop if your child has any special dietary requirements, whether it be medical or personal, as this will help prevent us from selling your child an item that he/she should not have. We have also noticed some children coming to school with large amounts of money. We understand that sometimes this may be all parents have on that day but would advise it best to only provide what is necessary as unfortunately sometimes change can go missing from your child's tuckshop bag. If we find that a child has large amounts of change left, we have been putting it into an envelope and forwarding to the child's teacher or to the office for safe keeping. If any parent would like to let us know of anything regarding their child and are unable to come to the Tuckshop in person, you can email us on easttuckshop@outlook.com. This is not to be used for Tuckshop orders please!

Page 10 of 12 Also the Tuckshop has started our Early Birds Breakfast! Pop in and grab a hot chocolate/coffee & toast, toasted banana bread or an up & go flavoured milk. We are also open untill 3.00pm every day for our quick snacks or coffee/slushies. Please remember if you would like your apples slinkied, put them in the class tuckshop box.

Page 11 of 12 Please note the amber days as per the Tuckshop Menu. If your child has ordered something not for that day, it will be substituted for the amber option for that day. Please make sure your Tuckshop bag is clearly marked with your child's name, class and which lunch break they would like their meal. Thank you.
