February 23 to March 3, 2019 Canada Winter Games Selection Criteria 2019 Cross Country Alberta will be sending a Canada Winter Games (CWG) team to Red Deer, AB. February 23 to March 3, 2019. The Canada Winter Games Team will consist of 5 male and 5 female able bodied Canada Winter Games eligible athletes which can be comprised of 4 female and 4 male athletes born in 1999 or later and 1 female and 1 male born in 1996, 1997 or 1998; or 5 female and 5 male athletes born in 1999 or later. 2 male and 2 female Para Nordic athletes born in 1984 or later for a total of 14 athletes. *The intent is to send the strongest Canada Winter Games team possible. One alternate male and one alternate female will be nominated with the consideration to the age restrictions. In the case of a declined position for both the Able Bodied and Para Nordic teams, the spot will be offered to the alternate athlete. **If the alternate named is a U23 but a U20 athlete declines their invitation then the next ranked U20 athlete would be offered the position. All competitors must hold a current and valid CCC racing license. Competitor Eligibility 4.2 and Appendix 1 of CWG technical package.

* In keeping with the objective of targeting athletes within the Training to Compete (TTC) level of LTAD, age exceptions may be provided to the Para Nordic athletes born prior to 1984 whose athlete development level is consistent with the TTC. The Canada Games Council (CGC), and Cross Country Canada (CCC), recognizes that an age dependent criterion may not adequately reflect the entry of the athlete into Para Nordic skiing due to the late onset of disabilities through injury or medical condition. CCC s Para Nordic Committee in cooperation with the CGC will consider these special cases up to December 1, 2018. A Province/Territory may only receive 1 age exemption per gender for the 2019 CWG and only if there are no other available athletes who meet the age category. Athletes selected through the reallocation policy must meet the age category, no exemptions will be granted. Selections are administered by the Canada Winter Games Selection Committee. Appeals regarding selection may be made as per CCA Policy 4.4.3.3. A force majeure will only be considered where performance measures in the current competitive season demonstrate a top ranking position. Proper documentation can be put forward as rationale for not having competed in or

completed a selection race(s) and should be emailed to cca@xcountryab.net within 24 hours of the race completion for which the force majeure event occurred.
