EIU is 9-4 on the year while Xavier is 3-9. EIU-XAVIER SERIES EIU is 3-2 all-time against Xavier while Panther head coach Brady Sallee is 0-1 all-time against the Musketeers. The Panthers last win over Xavier came during the 1985-86 season in Cincinnati, Ohio. The last meeting between the two teams came on Dec. 15, 2006 with the Musketeers defeating the Panthers, 90-73, in Ohio. Three players scored in double figures led by junior Mariah King who posted her third doubledouble of the season, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Two players are scoring in double figures as Tyeasha Moss is averaging 13.2 points per game and Lynette Holmes is adding 12 points per game. Jessica Pachko leads the team with 7.8 rebounds per game. The Musketeers are 3-3 in home games this season. NIXON EARNS WEEKLY COLLEGE SPORTS MADNESS HONORS Junior Ta Kenya Nixon was named College Sports Madness Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week for her performances last week against Northern Illinois. It marks the second time this season Nixon has earned the honor. The Michigan City, Ind., native scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the 72-62 win. She also had four assists and steals and went 10-for-12 from the foul line. EIU ONE LINERS EIU outrebounded Murray State by 21 (50-29) on Monday night. The Panthers have outrebounded their opponents by 20 or more rebounds in a game on three occasions this season. EIU has only been outrebounded twice this season and have a rebounding margin of +9.2, the best mark in the OVC. The Panthers shot over 40 percent from the field in the win over Murray State for the first time since a 75-60 win over Indiana State on Dec. 10. EIU has shot over 40 percent from the floor seven times this season to average a 41.8 percent clip on the year, the best mark in the OVC. EIU scored over 70 points in the win over Murray State, the eighth time this year the Panthers have scored over 70 points. The Panthers are second in the OVC in scoring offense (72.5) while leading the league in scoring margin (+17.5). Defensively, the Panthers are holding opponents to 59.3 points per game, the best mark in the OVC. EIU is also holding opponents to an OVC-best 37.1 field-goal percentage. Sophomore Jordyne Crunk made her first career start last week versus Northern Illinois. She started in EIU s last two games, averaging six points per game to go along with seven steals and five rebounds. Jordyne Crunk has scored 49 of her 91 points from the foul line this year. She paces the Panthers in made free throws and has hit 77.8 percent of her shots from the charity stripe (49-for-63). Junior Mariah King posted her third career double-double in the win over Murray State, scoring 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in only 21 minutes of action. The Chicago native is averaging 7.7 rebounds per game, the fourth highest average in the OVC.

Mitchell averaged 13.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game in EIU s two games last week. On the season, the forward is averaging 10.4 points per game and 5.7 rebounds per game. Her 44.9 percent field-goal percentage ranks as the 10th best in the OVC. In their last three games, the Panthers are hitting 82.2 percent (60-for-73) of their shots from the foul line. Junior Ta Kenya Nixon has gone 21-for-25 from the charity stripe in the team s last three contests. EIU has made a three pointer in 69 consecutive games. The last time the Panthers did not make a three pointer was on Dec. 9, 2009 when they went 0-for-10 from behind the arc in a 66-58 home win over Western Michigan. Through her first seven games, Kelsey Wyss hit 53.1 percent (17-for-32) of her shots from behind the arc. In the last six games, Wyss has only hit 11 percent (2-for-18) of her shots from three-point range. WYSS MOVES INTO THE CAREER CHARTS Junior guard Kelsey Wyss currently has 99 made three pointers throughout her career, the 10th highest total in school history. NXION IN THE CAREER CHARTS Ta Kenya Nixon has made 343 free throws in her career, the fifth most in school history. The Michigan City, Ind., native needs 18 more made free throws to pass Allison Lee (1995-98) and move up to fourth all-time. Nixon also has dished out 367 assists in her career so far, the ninth most in school history. PRESSLEY IN THE CAREER CHARTS Senior forward Chantelle Pressley has 72 career blocks, the sixth most in school history. The Lexington, Ky., native needs 28 more blocks to move into fifth all-time in career blocks and tie Missy Beck who had 100 blocked shots from 1993-96. EIU SETS SCHOOL RECORD FOR THREE POINTERS The Panthers drained a school record 14 three pointers at San Jose State last week, led by Jessica Parker and Kelsey Wyss who combined for 10 three pointers. Six different players hit a shot from behind the arc in the 93-71 win. EIU s previous record was 13 three pointers at Morehead State on Feb. 26, 2000. SHUMPERT SIGNS NLI DURING NCAA EARLY SIGNING PERIOD Panther head coach Brady Sallee has announced the addition of Alece Shumpert to the Eastern Illinois women s basketball team during the NCAA s early national letter of intent period. Tennessee Tech was picked to win the OVC, collecting 13 first-place votes. UT Martin, the defending OVC Tournament Champions, was tabbed to finish second with nine first-place votes followed by Eastern Illinois in third. Austin Peay was fourth in the preseason poll followed by Morehead State, Murray State and Tennessee State. SIU Edwardsville was selected to finish eighth while Jacksonville State, Eastern Kentucky and Southeast Missouri rounded out the final three spots in the poll. KING, NIXON EARN PRESEASON ALL-OVC HONORS Two EIU players in Ta Kenya Nixon and Mariah King were named to the Preseason All-OVC Team. Both players earned all-conference accolades last season as Nixon was a first-team selection while King earned second-team honors, respectively. Nixon paced the Panthers last season in points per game (15.9), assists per game (5.0) and steals per game (1.7) while pulling down 6.5 rebounds per game, the second-most on the team. King was second on the team in scoring, averaging 13.4 points per game while collecting 5.0 rebounds per game.

OVC GOES TO NEW SCHEDULE FORMAT The Ohio Valley Conference will have a new format this season as all league schools will play a 16-game schedule. Conference schools will play a home-and-home series against six opponents while playing the remaining four schools on their schedule only one time. This season EIU will travel to Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech without a return visit from those two schools. The Panthers will play host to Austin Peay and Tennessee State without having to pay a return visit to Clarksville or Nashville. Page8 Game 14 EIU at Xavier January 4, 2011 Head Coach Brady Sallee Year: 8th Season Record at EIU: 123-105 (.539) Career: Same Alma Mater: Thomas More College, 1993 Brady Sallee was hired in April of 2004 to lead the Eastern Illinois women s basketball program. Seven seasons later, the head coach has taken the program to unprecedented heights, highlighted by the program s first conference title during the 2009-10 campaign. After using the first three years of his head coaching career (2004-05) to lay a foundation of success, the EIU women s basketball team has been nothing short of exceptional in the last four seasons. The Panthers have won 84 games since the start of the 2007-08 season the most by an EIU women s basketball team in a four-year span during the Division I era. Division I era. In addition to capturing the program s first OVC title in 2009-10, Sallee has compiled a long list of accomplishments in his relatively short coaching career at EIU. His squads posted back-to-back 20 win seasons from 2008-10 for the first time since 1981-83. The 24 wins during the 2008-09 campaign marked the first time a women s basketball team won 20 or more games in a season since 1987-88 while setting the single-season record for wins during the Since the start of the 2007-08 season, the head coach has seen his squads near the top of the conference standings as they have posted a conference-best 59-15 record in OVC contests. The Panthers have also won nearly 80 percent of their home contests under Sallee during that span as they have recorded a 47-13 mark in games played at Lantz Arena. Three players have also eared OVC Freshman of the Year honors in Galligan (2006), Jessica Huffman (2007) and Ta Kenya Nixon (2010) under Sallee s tutelage. Nixon was also tabbed the OVC Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. Other program highlights established under Sallee s guidance have included the Panthers setting the school record for free throws made (595 2009-10 season) and made three pointers (180 2008-09 seasons). The Panthers have also had team grade point averages rank nationally among women s basketball programs, posting the nation s seventh-best team GPA in 2007-08 with a 3.475 GPA. EIU also ranked ninth in 2008-09 (3.423 GPA) and tenth in 2006-07 (3.442 GPA). Galligan also was a top-10 finalist in 2009 for the Lowe s Senior CLASS Award, a national award recognizing excellence both on and off the court. The head coach has also been an active member of the national coaching community. Sallee was a voting member of the USA Today/ESPN Board of Coaches from 2007-09. Most recently, he was one of 18 NCAA Division I head coaches that took part in an NCAA Mock Selection Exercise during the summer of 2011. Prior to becoming the sixth coach in EIU history, Sallee was a recruiting coordinator at three Division I programs. As the top assistant at Eastern Carolina University from 2002-03, his recruiting class ranked among the nation s Top 50 according to the All-Star Girls Report.
