From the Prez Round 7 Welcome back to everyone after the Christmas break. I trust all connected to our club has been able to re-charge your batteries leading into the business end of the season! First of all, I would like to kick off by thanking the superstars who delivered the calendars throughout Somerville. Our goal was the secure the businesses, get the calendars printed and delivered before Christmas and ready for the New Year and this was achieved. I won t individualize in case I miss someone but many thanks to our volunteers who gave up their time and did a cracking job for our club. This coming Sunday, we have the annual Reverse Draw to be held at The Nest, kicking off at 12:00. This is always a fun day, with a few quiet drinks and plenty of conversation. Once again, we need everyone connected to our club to do their bit and return their ticket stubs to the bar, definitely BEFORE Sunday. We ask you all to out-source to family, friends, work colleagues, etc. This Thursday, the Semi Finals of the Jack Peacock Cup kicks off, with Somerville v our 2014-15 Grand Final adversary Red Hill at The Nest. There is no love lost here and we are super keen to knock them off and progress to the next stage. Many will recall the magnificent win that we recorded in the 2011-12 Grand Final against Mt. Eliza so let s make sure we have a capacity crowd. 5:00pm start, BBQ, bar open, 23 deg. Where else would you rather be? On the playing front, 4 from 6 is a solid start. Building on a solid win over Long Island pre-christmas, the ones had to win this one and that they did, steam rolling neighbor Moorooduc. With our premiership opening duo working their magic along with Russ and some great fielding, we reduced them to 8/31 before they eventually put together 62. Kadda, 3/15, Roachy 3/17 and Russ 1/12 did the damage, while Nicko The Claw Marshall dazzled in the field. In reply, Nick and Parks got us off to a sound start and the win elevates us 2 rungs up the ladder. Double point game v Pines this round. In a comprehensive victory that should set up a finals charge, the 2 s smacked Moorooduc, with Westy creaming 83 and Jarryd Parker a polished 64, partnership 116. Blacky a valuable 30, and then the quicks did the damage with Roscoe, 4/10, Bristle T 2/14 and Lachie West 2/20 excelling. With competition for selection increasing, this squad has the potential to be a genuine premiership chance. The 3rds are having a bumper season.. not a bad position to be in when Soppy and Kenno ease back in after a few months off. 5/207, with Dangerous Dan again leading from the front with 48 Kenno 37, Soppy 52* and Con 29* Bods had Langy shaking in their shoes with a fearsome spell that returned 2/12 and the consistent Brad Jones 3/39 finished it off. 4 th pos and finals a strong chance. Our 4ths had a young but promising team but found the going pretty tough against the experienced Langwarrin combination. 9/216, with Big Chaz continuing his development with 3/60 and who else but The Dominator Kyel John Slee who mesmerized the opposition with 4/49 and 16 for the season. In reply, The Sheik Lindles 21, promising youngster Bailey Bakker 16 and Alex Wooley 19. The 5ths are on a roll and aiming to emulate the premiership of several seasons ago. Ben The Tank Wickham rolled out another cracking innings of 75 and his pal Dylan 32 for an opening partnership of 71. In comes Will Poole with a valuable 49* Always good to put the screws on POB for a 40 run win. Cess Poole again with 2/22 and Jamie Rutherford a promising 3/28. The 6ths held 2 nd spot on the ladder despite a major batting collapse to end up all out 66. Duane Alderson 17 and Triff 15 registered double figures, but then Tony Finn defied the sun screen episode and racked up the fine figures of 5/26. Boneo 8/67. The sun screen episode was significant enough to encourage team mascot Andrew Kennedy to briefly exit the Somie Hotel bar and come up to the club and lecture Tony on the 6ths code of behavior. Finally, this Saturday sees the return of our 96-97 1sts premiership team. Gary Spencer has been putting the word out there and with any premiership reunion it promises to be a great day for our club. Make sure you wander in and have a chat to these legends. Make it count! Go Eagles. Peter Alp President
