In addition, it will air on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester. The Crusaders will be looking to sweep the regular season series with the Raiders, after posting a 67-61 victory earlier this season in Hamilton. Holy Cross stands 11-12 on the year and is tied for fifth place in the Patriot League with a 5-5 mark in conference games. The Crusaders have lost their last two games, and are coming off a 60-47 setback at Navy on Saturday. Holy Cross leads the Patriot League in scoring defense (63.2 points per game), steals (9.2 steals per game), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.21- to-1) and turnover margin (+4.9 turnovers per game). Senior forward Malachi Alexander leads the team by averaging 14.5 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Senior guard Robert Champion has also enjoyed a solid season, averaging 11.8 points, 3.2 boards and 1.8 steals per contest. In addition, sophomore forward Karl Charles has added 10.1 points, 3.6 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. Colgate enters the game with an overall record of 7-16 and a 5-5 mark in the Patriot League. The Raiders have won three of their last four games, including a 70-65 victory at American on Sunday. Freshman forward Will Rayman leads the team by averaging 14.8 points and 4.4 rebounds per game so far this season. Junior guard Sean O Brien has added 12.6 points, 4.2 assists and 2.5 boards per contest, while junior forward Jordan Swopshire is chipping in with 8.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. THE SERIES WITH COLGATE: This will be the 82nd meeting between the Crusaders and the Raiders on the hardwood, with Holy Cross leading the all-time series 59-22. The Crusaders have won nine of the last 12 games between the schools. Holy Cross holds a 30-20 lead in the series over the last 21 seasons, but previously the Crusaders had won 29 of the first 31 meetings between the schools. For games played in Worcester, Holy Cross owns a 33-7 edge, with a 24-7 mark at the Hart Center. The schools first met on Feb. 11, 1947, with Holy Cross posting a 67-39 victory at the Boston Garden. In 23 games played, Holy Cross has limited its opponents to just 63.2 points per game. The Crusaders have been even more impressive during Patriot League play, holding conference foes to just 61.8 points per contest. Overall this year, Holy Cross has forced 16.0 turnovers per game, while averaging 9.2 steals per contest. The Crusaders have held 10 of their 23 opponents to under 60 points, with lows of 49 points by Albany and 50 points by Navy. STEALING THE SHOW: In 23 games played so far this season, Holy Cross has averaged a Patriot League-best 9.2 steals per contest. The Crusaders have reached double figures in steals 12 times this year, with a high of 16 steals against both American and Quinnipiac. Prior to this season, holy Cross had not recorded 16 steals in a single game since Nov. 12, 2006, when it had 16 steals against Fairfield. Senior forward Malachi Alexander and senior guard Robert Champion lead the team with 41 steals each, followed sophomore forward Karl Charles (38 steals) and senior guard Anthony Thompson (35 steals). BENZAN PLAYS KEY MINUTES IN BACKCOURT: Sophomore guard Patrick Benzan has been one of the top players in the Holy Cross backcourt so far this season. In 23 games played, Benzan has averaged 7.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game, while hitting 52.6 percent of his field goal attempts. In the game at Navy, he led the team with 12 points and two steals. Previously at Loyola, Benzan totaled 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. He also played well against American, tallying 11 points, six rebounds and two steals. A few of Benzan s other top games this season have come against Army (career-high 16 points, eight assists, five rebounds, three steals), Harvard (15 points, three assists), Bucknell (15 points), UMass (12 points, career-best 10 rebounds, four steals), Navy (12 points, three rebounds, three assists, game-winning shot with 0.1 seconds remaining) and Lafayette (11 points, four rebounds). Over the course of his collegiate career, Benzan has now totaled 204 points, 85 rebounds, 66 assists and 37 steals. HART IS WHERE THE HOME IS: Holy Cross currently owns an alltime record of 370-154 at the Hart Center at the Luth Athletic Complex, including a 6-2 mark so far this season. The Crusaders posted their 300th win in the building against Sacred Heart on Nov. 14, 2008. Holy Cross had a 23-game winning streak at the Hart Center from Feb. 15, 2006-Jan. 2, 2008, which was the longest streak in the history of the building and the sixth-longest home court winning streak in the nation at the time. In 2006-2007 the Crusaders posted a perfect 14-0 mark at the Hart Center, setting a school record for the most home victories since they moved into the building. During the Hart Center s history, Holy Cross has posted a winning record at home in 35 out of 41 seasons, while recording doublefigure home victories 18 times. The Crusaders stand 157-62 at home since the beginning of the 2000-2001 season, including a 101-35 record against Patriot League foes. NAVY RECAP Navy s Shawn Anderson totaled 15 points, six assists and six steals, as the Midshipmen posted a 60-47 victory over the Crusaders at Alumni Hall on Jan. 28, 2017. Holy Cross was led by Anthony Thompson with 10 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists on the afternoon. The Crusaders made just 34.1 percent of their field goal attempts and 61.9 percent of their free throws in the game. The Midshipmen overcame 43.8 percent free throw shooting by hitting 50.0 percent of their shots from the floor. Both teams finished the game with 19 turnovers, while Navy held a 36-27 rebounding advantage. Patrick Benzan recorded 12 points and two steals on the day, while Malachi Alexander added 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. The Midshipmen opened the game by jumping out to an early 13-3 lead after the first six minutes of play. Holy Cross scored the next seven points to close the gap, and was later down 18-14 with 7:43 left before the break. Navy then used an 8-2 run to build its lead back to double digits, and went on to take a 33-24 advantage into the locker room. The Crusaders went cold from the field to open the second half, as the Midshipmen scored seven straight points to claim a 40-24 lead with 15 minutes left to play. The Navy lead stayed between 12-19 points for several minutes, and stood at 57-40 with 3:43 remaining. Holy Cross used a quick 7-0 spurt to close to within 10 (57-47), but would get no closer as the Midshipmen eventually posted a 13-point victory. 1947 NCAA TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS

2016-2017 HOLY CROSS MEN S BASKETBALL ALEXANDER PLAYS PROMINENT ROLE: Senior forward Malachi Alexander is once again one of the top players for the Crusaders this year. Through 23 games played, Alexander has averaged 14.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals per contest, while hitting 41.6 percent of his three-point attempts. In the game at Navy, he totaled 11 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Previously at Loyola, Alexander led the team with 20 points, three rebounds and three steals. He also played well against American, recording 15 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. A few of Alexander s other top performances this year have come against Sacred Heart (career-high 38 points, 10 rebounds), Lafayette (19 points, six rebounds), Colgate (18 points, eight rebounds), Army (18 points, six rebounds, four assists), Navy (17 points, seven rebounds), Albany (17 points, seven rebounds, three assists), Maine (16 points, six rebounds, three steals), South Carolina (15 points, six rebounds), Lehigh (15 points, four rebounds), Rhode Island (15 points), Massachusetts (14 points, three assists), Monmouth (13 points, five rebounds, five assists), Marist (12 points, four rebounds, four assists, four steals), South Carolina State (11 points, six rebounds) and New Hampshire (10 points, seven rebounds). Last season, he averaged 11.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.8 assists per contest, while hitting 47.1 percent of his field goal attempts and 43.9 percent of his three-pointers. Alexander was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2016 Patriot League Tournament, after averaging 20.8 points and 7.5 rebounds in four games. Over the course of his collegiate career, Alexander has now totaled 1,210 points, 613 rebounds, 204 assists and 112 steals. THOMPSON RETURNS TO BACKCOURT: Senior guard Anthony Thompson is once again a key part of the Holy Cross backcourt this year. Through 23 games played, he has averaged 6.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per contest. In the game at Navy, Thompson posted 10 points, three steals, two rebounds and two assists. Previously at Colgate, he totaled 12 points, four assists and two rebounds. Thompson also played well against Monmouth, scoring a team-high 18 points while hitting four of five three-point attempts. A few of his other top games this year have come against Massachusetts (14 points) and Syracuse (12 points). Last season, Thompson averaged 7.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.1 steals per contest, while hitting 79.5 percent of his free throws. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Thompson has now totaled 808 points, 264 assists, 260 rebounds and 128 steals, while making 74.1 percent of his free throws (237 of 320). Holy Cross made 50.0 percent of its field goal attempts and 45.8 percent of its three-pointers on the night, but only connected on 47.6 percent of its foul shots. The Crusaders also forced the Raiders to commit 16 turnovers, while giving the ball away only 10 times. Colgate hit 52.4 percent from the floor, 47.4 percent from beyond the arc and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe. Karl Charles finished the game with 13 points, six assists, three rebounds and two steals. Anthony Thompson added 12 points, four assists and two rebounds, while Robert Champion posted 12 points and five rebounds. Will Rayman led the Raiders with 16 points and five rebounds. The Crusaders started the game on fire, jumping out to a 17-0 lead with 13:43 left in the first half. Holy Cross extended its advantage to 19 points (26-7) with 8:56 to go before the break, when Colgate began to claw its way back into the game. The Raiders used runs of 8-0 and 9-0 to cut the margin down to three points (33-30), before the Crusaders eventually took a 35-30 lead into the locker room at halftime. Holy Cross was up by six points (43-37) with 14 minutes remaining, when it went on a 14-6 run to make the score 57-43 at the 8:57-mark. The Crusaders were still up by 13 (60-47), when Colgate scored eight straight points to close to within five (60-55) with four minutes left to play. The Raiders would get as close as four points (63-59), when Alexander hit a jumper with 1:16 on the clock to put Holy Cross back up by six. The Crusaders then held on for the victory, despite making just two of four free throw attempts in the final minute. CHAMPION ENJOYING ANOTHER STRONG SEASON: Senior guard Robert Champion is once again a key player in the Holy Cross backcourt this year. Through 23 games played, he has averaged 11.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.8 steals per contest. During the Loyola game, Champion recorded 17 points and three rebounds. Previously against American, he totaled 10 points, four steals and three rebounds. Champion also played well at Colgate, posting 12 points and five rebounds. A few of his other top games this season have come against Quinnipiac (career-high 28 points, five steals), Marist (23 points, five rebounds, three steals), Albany (22 points, three steals), Boston University (18 points, five rebounds, three steals), South Carolina (18 points, four rebounds), South Carolina State (18 points, three rebounds, three assists), Maine (13 points, eight rebounds, two steals), Navy (11 points, four rebounds) and Sacred Heart (10 points, three steals, two rebounds). Last season, Champion averaged a team-best 12.0 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest. Over the course of his Holy Cross career, Champion has now totaled 898 points, 317 rebounds, 99 steals and 98 assists. CARMODY LEADS THE CRUSADERS: Bill Carmody is in his second season as the head men s basketball coach at Holy Cross in 2016-2017, with an overall record of 26-32. He owns a career record of 310-277, after earning his 300th career victory with a 63-52 win at Harvard on Nov. 22, 2016. Last season, Carmody led the Crusaders to their first Patriot League Tournament title since 2007 and their first NCAA Tournament victory since 1953. The 17th head coach in the history of the program, he has 33 years of Division I coaching experience, including 18 seasons as a head coach (with 13 years at Northwestern and four seasons at Princeton). Through 23 games played this year, he has averaged 10.1 points, 3.6 assists, 3.6 rebounds and 1.7 steals, while hitting 79.4 percent of his free throws. During the victory over American, Charles totaled 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Previously at Army, he scored a career-high 24 points on eight of 10 shooting from the field. Charles also played well against Lafayette, leading the team with 20 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals. A few of his other top games this year have come against New Hampshire (16 points, three rebounds, three assists), South Carolina State (14 points, career-high nine assists, five boards), Quinnipiac (14 points, eight assists, four rebounds, three steals), Harvard (14 points, four rebounds), Colgate (13 points, six assists, three rebounds), Monmouth (12 points, eight assists, seven rebounds), Rhode Island (12 points, four rebounds, three steals) and Bucknell (10 points, three rebounds). Last season, Charles averaged 10.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.1 steals and 0.5 blocks per game, while hitting 79.2 percent of his free throws. Over the course of his collegiate career, Charles has totaled 603 points, 229 rebounds, 168 assists, 75 steals and 23 blocked shots. TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE: This year marks the 97th season of Holy Cross men s basketball. The Crusaders own an overall record of 1,386-964 (.590), while making 26 postseason tournament appearances 13 trips to the NCAA Tournament, 12 to the National Invitation Tournament and one to the CollegeInsider.com Tournament. In the history of collegiate basketball, Holy Cross is one of only 16 schools to have won the NCAA Tournament (1946-1947) as well as the National Invitational Tournament (1953-1954). Throughout its history, Holy Cross has had six first team All-America selections, sent 10 players to the National Basketball Association, had four players and coaches inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, had 23 players drafted by professional teams, had three players go on to coach professionally and had 15 players who have coached in college. PROTECTING THE BALL: In 23 games played so far this season, the Crusaders have only turned the ball over 255 times, for an average of 11.1 turnovers per contest. Holy Cross has posted single-digit turnovers seven times this year, including a season-low of seven at Army, Boston University and Harvard. Last year, the Crusaders committed only 386 turnovers in 35 games, for a Patriot League-low average of 11.0 turnovers per contest. In 2014-2015, Holy Cross averaged 10.9 turnovers per contest, with 328 total turnovers in 30 games. That mark was the lowest in the Patriot League and also set a school single-season record. HUSEK STEPS UP IN THE POST: Senior center Matt Husek has been one of Holy Cross top players down low this season. In 23 games played, he has averaged 6.3 points and 2.2 rebounds, while hitting 46.6 percent of his field goal attempts. In the Boston University game, Husek totaled 14 points, four rebounds and two assists. Previously against Marist, he finished with 12 points and two blocked shots. Husek also played well against Quinnipiac, posting 10 points and four assists. A few of his other top games this year have come against Monmouth (12 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals) and South Carolina State (12 points, five rebounds). Last season, Husek averaged 5.7 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.8 blocks per contest. Over the course of his collegiate career, he has now totaled 408 points, 178 rebounds and 61 blocked shots. CRUSADERS LOOKING FOR SIXTH PATRIOT LEAGUE REGULAR SEASON TITLE: During the 2016-2017 campaign, Holy Cross will attempt to win the Patriot League regular season title for the sixth time in school history. The last championship for the Crusaders came in 2006-2007, when they tied for first place in the conference with Bucknell, as both teams posted 13-1 records in league play. Prior to that, Holy Cross won outright Patriot League regular season titles in 2001, 2003 and 2005, while sharing the regular season championship in 1994. 2016-2017 HOLY CROSS MEN S BASKETBALL CRUSADERS IN THE RECORD BOOKS: Four Holy Cross players have earned spots in the school s all-time record book this season. Senior forward Malachi Alexander currently stands fourth all-time in career games played (122), sixth in career three-point field goal percentage (.409, 124 of 303) and seventh in career minutes played (3,443). Senior guard Robert Champion ranks eighth all-time in career three-point field goal attempts (401) and ninth in career three-pointers made (133). In addition, senior guard Anthony Thompson stands fifth all-time in career three-point field goal attempts (417) and eighth in career average minutes played (29.6), while sophomore forward Karl Charles ranks 10th in career average minutes played (.29.3). THE 1,000-POINT CLUB: During the game at Rhode Island on Dec. 18, senior forward Malachi Alexander became the 50th 1,000-point scorer in the history of Holy Cross men s basketball. He scored his 1,000th career point by knocking down the front end of a one-and-one with 5:19 remaining in the first half. Alexander has now scored 1,210 points in 122 career games as a Crusader, good for an average of 9.9 points per contest. Senior guard Robert Champion currently has 898 career points scored, and could also join the 1,000-point club this season. CRUSADERS PICKED FOURTH IN PRESEASON POLL: In the 2016-2017 Patriot League preseason poll, Holy Cross was picked to finish in fourth place in voting by the conference s head coaches and sports information directors. The Crusaders received 115 total points in the conference preseason poll. Lehigh placed first in the poll, with 161 total points and 17 first-place votes, followed by Boston University in second with 139 points and three first-place votes, and Bucknell in third with 132 points. American placed fifth with 86 points, while Colgate was sixth (83 points) and Loyola (Md.) was seventh (69 points). The preseason rankings were rounded out by Navy (eight, 49 points), Lafayette (ninth, 43 points) and Army West Point (10th, 23 points). ALEXANDER TIES THREE-POINT RECORD AT SACRED HEART: During the Dec. 21 game at Sacred Heart, senior forward Malachi Alexander tied the all-time Holy Cross single-game record for three-point field goals made. Alexander drained seven of eight attempts from behind the arc against the Pioneers, becoming the sixth player in school history to hit seven three-pointers in a game.
