A pre-race veterinary examination of the gelding found it suitable to race. Began awkwardly and shifted outwards abruptly. Rider J. Richards(a) explained his mount raced very greenly throughout and after travelling well until straightening it then hung in and weakened. He added the gelding would derive benefit from the raceday experience. A post-race veterinary examination did not detect any abnormalities. Tribal Myth- Taken back from its wide barrier to obtain cover. When questioned regarding her riding of the gelding, and in particular if there was an opportunity to improve her position in the middle stages, Rider R. Prest(a) stated she took her mount back from a wide barrier to obtain cover and her mount travelled comfortable in a rearward position in the early stages. She added she attempted to improve her position near the 900m but when her mount struck a soft section near the 700m it floundered and lost its action. She added she was obliged to hold her mount together until straightening and once clear and on a better racing surface her mount found the line well. Her explanations were noted. Apprentice Wright explained that from the inside barrier she raced on the rail until straightening and was unaware of Benno s Boy racing directly behind her and was not aware of how much she had allowed her mount to roll out on the home turn. After viewing the Stewards patrol films Apprentice Wright agreed with Stewards that she should have made a greater effort to keep her mount racing hard on the rail. In taking no action against Apprentice Wright Stewards were mindful of her very limited race riding experience but she was advised to ensure she rides her mount in a more competitive manner in the future. Bad Obsession- S. Miller was given permission to ride the gelding 1/2kg over its declared weight.
