PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES (0-3) vs. NEW YORK METS (1-1) Friday, April 8, 2016 Citi Field 1:10 p.m. EDT Game 4; Road 4 RHP Jerad Eickhoff (NR) vs. RHP Jacob degrom (NR), YESTERDAY S ACTION: The Phillies lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 10-6, at Great American Ball Park, to complete the three-game sweep Starter Charlie Morton (L, 0-1) allowed 6 ER on 5 hits in 3.2 innings while walking 2 and striking out 3 Cedric Hunter launched his first career home run, a solo shot in the top of the 4 th inning Things came unraveled for the Phillies in the bottom half of the frame when the Reds scored 8 runs on 6 hits Jay Bruce took Morton deep to right for a 3-run homer before Eugenio Suarez launched a grand slam off reliever Daniel Stumpf in his major league debut Ryan Howard and Carlos Ruiz hit a pair of 2-run HR s in the 6 th and 8 th innings, respectively, but the Phillies rally fell short. IT S BEEN A LONG TIME COMING: Phillies outfielder Cedric Hunter collected his second career Major League hit yesterday in Cincinnati (solo HR off Robert Stephenson) exactly 5 years and 2 days after getting his first big league hit (single off Guillermo Mota on 4/5/11 vs SF) The 1,829 days is the longest gap between two major league hits for any non-pitcher since Gregorio Petit, who went 1,878 days between hits from June 4, 2009 to July 25, 2014. STARTING OFF ON THE WRONG FOOT: The Phillies lost all three of their games in Cincinnati this week, marking the first time they were swept in a season-opening series since April 2-5, 2007, when they lost three straight to the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park It was also the first time they were swept in a season-opening road series since April 4-6, 2000 at Arizona (0-3) The Phillies have not started a season 0-4 since 2006 (started 0-3 vs STL, then lost first game of their next series vs LAD). MET LIFE: In 2015, the Phillies went 5-14 (.263) against the New York Mets, marking their most losses to an opponent over a single season since 1970 when they went 4-14 against the Pittsburgh Pirates... It was also their highest loss total ever in a single season to the Mets (previous: 13 L, 5x)... In those 19 games last year, the Mets outscored the Phillies by 35 runs (111-76), while Philadelphia s pitchers combined for a 5.50 ERA (103 ER, 168.2 IP) with 35 home runs allowed (1.84 HR per game)... On the bright side, Philadelphia ended the season series with a three-game sweep over New York at Citizens Bank Park, snapping their streak of nine consecutive series losses to the Mets (5/29/14-9/2/15), their longest series losing streak to New York in franchise history (previous: 6 series, 6/18/71 to 6/1/72) The Phillies current three-game win streak over the Mets is their longest since a fivegame stretch from April 9-28, 2013.
