Participation in the annual recital is not mandatory; however, it is highly encouraged. The benefits gained from working towards this goal are immeasurable. We hope that you and your family will join us of our best recital season yet! We are excited to announce that we will have 2 recitals due to the growth of our studio. By having 2 shows this will make sure that we will have enough seating for all family and friends, and can keep our show times under 2 hours long. Please note that we will do our very best to accommodate as many of our families as possible to keep siblings in the same show, however we know that it is not possible to accommodate everyone with over 200 students. Ticket Prices Admission is $10.00 for General Admission and $14.00 for Premium Admission. Tickets purchased at the door will increase to $15 on the day of the show. Costumes Each class will have an assigned costume. Since costumes come from an outside company and not a local independent store, they must be ordered in groups to ensure arrival in time for our recitals. Therefore, in order for all costumes to be guaranteed the same exact style and color, they all must be ordered and paid for at the same exact time. Late payments will not be accepted. We spend many hours determining the correct costumes for each class. They are always age-appropriate and of the highest quality possible. Costume manufacturers do not accept cancellations or offer refunds of any kind. Therefore, we do not accept cancellations or offer refunds of any kind. Photos of each costume will be posted in the lobby in a costume binder. Costume Expense The cost of each costume is $65. All costume payments are due by Saturday, April 14, 2018. Any special orders, including extra-large sizes, may require an additional charge (this is determined by the costume company). Additional charges are the sole responsibility of the parent or guardian. Accessories, such as headpieces or gloves, are included in the cost of the costume. Tights and shoes are not included in these fees. Performers must purchase their own tights and shoes for the recital. You can purchase these items in person at Discount Dance Supply in Rancho Cucamonga. Distribution Costumes will be distributed to performers who have no outstanding balances for the season. This means that performers must be registered for their current dance classes and any other fees such as the recital participation fee, competition fees, etc. must all be paid for. The deadline for all balances due is Saturday, June 6 th. To ensure that there are no costume problems, students should not wear their costumes, accessories, or tights prior to the photo session, dress rehearsal, or actual dance recital. Alterations Although rare, alterations are sometimes needed after the costumes have been distributed. If needed, alterations are the sole responsibility of the dancer s Parent/Guardian. We recommend that if alterations are needed, you have them professionally completed by the cleaners or a seamstress. Costume Care Each dancer must have their full name clearly labeled and placed in all of his or her costumes, shoes, accessories, and tights. Place the costumes in a garment bag with your child s full name clearly labeled on the outside of the bag. Pack all accessories in a clear plastic freezer bag with your child s full name 2
clearly labeled on the bag and their full name clearly labeled on each item that s inside of the bag. Hats should be stored in a hatbox or similar container to prevent damage. Steam all costumes prior to the dress rehearsal and prior to the recital performances. Please do not wash any costumes in your washing machine. Dry-clean them only and only dry-clean them after the actual dance recital. Aria Dance Company will not be held responsible for any lost or damaged costumes, before or during the recital. Tights All performers must purchase new tights for the recital and please do not wear or wash them before the dress rehearsal or performances. The tights need to be brand new. This means straight out of the package. (Note: Having a second pair of tights on hand offers performers/parent/guardians a great sense of security, we highly recommend this). Performers need dance tights, not pantyhose. Please be sure you purchase dance tights from Discount Dance Supply or ADC. Do not purchase tights for the actual dance recital from Walmart, Target, Kmart, Payless Shoes, etc. These stores do not have the actual type of necessary dance recital tights required. Once again, please be sure you purchase dance tights from Discount Dance Supply or Aria Dance Company. -- Parents, I realize that this may be a sensitive topic, but please understand that this is part of being a dancer in a professional performance. When performers are in attire or performing, they do not wear panties. Dance tights are designed to replace the regular panties we wear and the dance tights allow our costumes to be worn and displayed professionally like they have been created and designed. We strive for all of our performers to be presented in the most professional, neat, and attractive manner as a group. Shoes All performers must wear the assigned shoes to perform. All items must be purchased at Discount Dance Supply. Required tights and shoes will be listed on the class costume sheet. Hair All female performers will wear their hair slicked back into a high bun with a braid wrapped around with no bangs. Uniform hairstyles are required. Uniform hairstyles refer to all performers having the hairstyle that has been assigned to their specific dance group. This is so our performers are presented in a professional, neat, and attractive manner as a group. No bangs, braids, cornrows, beads, ribbons, barrettes, or crowns are allowed during the actual dance recital performances. Performers with short hair must pull their hair away from their face and slick it down. Make-Up All female students are required to wear makeup for the recital. The makeup required will be red lipstick, blush, eye shadow, and mascara. For the boys, a little blush works well. A video tutorial is located on our website at: www.ariadanceandcheer.com. In Class Dress Rehearsal Thursday, June 21 st - Wednesday, June 27th There will be one week of In Class Dress Rehearsals. These rehearsals will be during your performers regular scheduled class. Performers are to arrive to their class dressed in their costume with performance tights, shoes, hair and makeup on. 3
Theatre Dress Rehearsal Participation in the theatre dress rehearsal is mandatory. The dress rehearsal allows the students to feel comfortable with their performance and costume(s). Students must come to dress rehearsal performance ready. This means their costume, hair, makeup, shoes, tights, and accessories must all be worn as if it was the actual dance recital. Lighting, music cues, set changes, and all other logistics for an organized and professional performance are rehearsed so that the students make the best professional impression as possible. Each dancer must have 1 Parent with them during all dress rehearsals. Students do not need to stay for the entire dress rehearsal. They are free to go once they have rehearsed all of their routines. We run an organized and timely dress rehearsal. Your help with the process will guarantee a professional production. Please arrive at least 30 minutes prior to curtain time. Students may arrive in their costume. If a student arrives in their costume, they must wear a cover up over it. An example of a cover up would be a bathrobe. Performance costumes are never to be shown or worn outside in public. Show Theatre Dress Rehearsal Days & (Times at Carter High School) Friday, June 30 th 5:30pm Recital T-Shirts All performers who are a part of our show will participate in the FINALE. Recital Arrival and Dismissal Parents/Guardians need to check in their dancer at the assigned check-in location where they will be checked in by name and placed under the supervision of their class mom(s). Performers will remain backstage for the entire performance. Sign out locations will be given during dress rehearsal. This will make it easier to get to student at the end of the show. Parents are not allowed in the dressing rooms after the children have been checked in for the recital. If a parent/guardian needs to be reached for any 4
reason, an announcement will be made. PARENTS WHO ARE NOT VOLUNTEERS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN DRESSING ROOMS OR BACKSTAGE. Please understand, respect, and follow this policy. There will be no exceptions. Special note: Please do not attempt to pick up your child during the performances. All students will be under the supervision of responsible adults and will be safe for the length of the performance. All children will be in good hands. The dressing rooms will be stocked with a variety of snacks and activities. Auditorium Rules No eating, drinking, or smoking is allowed in the auditorium or dressing rooms. When they are not onstage, performers must remain in the dressing rooms with their class moms during the dress rehearsal and actual dance recital. This is mandatory. Please understand, respect, and follow this policy. Family members and friends do not belong backstage or in the dressing rooms during dress rehearsals or the actual dance recital. The same applies during intermission and after the show. There is a lot of backstage activity in a limited space and dressing rooms are a private and restricted area. Please remind your family and guests to be respectful of these areas. Those who wish to greet a dance performer after the show or present flowers to them should do so in the designated lobby areas. Please understand, respect, and follow this policy. Snack Bar Donations During the recital we will have a snack bar to help raise money that goes back into the studio which directly benefits all of our students. We ask that each dancer contribute at least one item to make this fundraiser a success. There will be a request list at the front desk soon. All items will be due on Saturday, June 23 rd. Beat The Lines Recital day is an exciting day filled with family, friends, and fun; but most importantly it is a day to celebrate your amazing performer. In the midst of the hustle and bustle, parents often miss the opportunity to purchase souvenir items for their dancer to commemorate the special day. We have created a solution! On picture day, parents/guardians will be able to pre-order flowers, backstage candy grams, and gifts so that you will not have to worry about it on the day of the recital. We hope that you will find this helpful. Withdrawal No refunds will be made if a Parent/Guardian withdraws a child from the school after costumes have been ordered, or paid for. This means there are no refunds on anything which include the participation fees, costumes, recital t-shirts, recital tickets, recital DVD/video orders, etc. However, parents/guardians may pick up purchased costumes at the dance studio during the time of our scheduled costume distribution and up to 10 days after the dance recital. Costumes not picked within 10 days of the dance recital will be donated to charity. Volunteer Each year we require that at least one parent from each dancer or per family volunteer and help during the recital. The list of ways of volunteering vary from selling tickets, helping with the concession stand, assisting during picture day, ushering during the show, becoming a backstage mom, etc. Parents who 5
wish to not volunteer for any reason have the option of donating a $20.00 gift card as a substitute for not volunteering. Gift cards will be part of our recital raffle. All gift cards can be turned in with your volunteer form. 6
