"We play it hard, We play it fair We never shirk, We're always there III Blues News Round 16 2017 PRESIDENTS REPORT - Raymon Thatcher Croydon vs Wantirna South 12th August The Croydon Football Club welcomes the Committee, Players and supporters of the Wantirna South Football Club for this round 16 clash of 2017 at Swinburne Oval. Only three games to go for season 2017. This is our second last home game for the year and it needs to be huge. Mortimer, C. Boyce, R. Wade RESERVES Croydon 7.11.53 Upper Gully 6.7.43 Goal Kickers: T. Martin 4, R. Stephens, A. Bull, J. Grant Best Players: N. Parlby, J. Grant, J. Smith, S. Wilson, T. Martin U 19s: The last two games have resulted in wins for the team, however we have been a long way off our best. This is due to a combination of injuries, unavailability and players being promoted to the seniors. Adrian Ficorilli, Josh Mutsaers and Harry Dempster have all proven they will be long term senior players for Croydon and have all played well since going back up to senior level. Congratulations to Tom Maddern on making his senior debut against Waverley Blues, he also showed he is more than capable of handling the tempo of senior football and has a bright future ahead of him. It is fantastic to see these young men get their opportunities at senior level as we all try to develop as many senior players as we can within the club. We have a couple of hard games coming up which should give us a great lead into the finals where we will be doing our best to make all at Croydon proud Reserves: Another two competitive games and wins in recent weeks against Waverley and upper gully have cemented a well deserved finals spot for the group. A really great result against Waverley ensured we celebrated Shaun "Porno" Wilsons 300th game in style with his long term team mates stepping up on the day to put in a special effort to ensure we got the chocolates. Upper gully is always a tough game at their home deck and this was no exception. We fought hard all day and had another come from behind win which showed the continued character of this group. A big challenge this week against the form side in Wantirna south, we continue to scrape together enough numbers but we have confidence that whoever steps out on the park will give 100%effort for the CFC. Good luck to all sides for the remainder of the year!! SENIORS Croydon 14.19.103 Waverley Blues 4.2.26 Goal Kickers: J. Clark 5, L. Styles 2, J. Ficorilli, P. Thatcher, J. Bolton, L. Kimpton, A. Ficorilli, H. Dempster, H. Lovat Best Players: A. Ficorilli, J. Clark, M. Wilkins, H. Lovat, L. Kimpton, P. Blight SENIORS Croydon 2.5.17 Upper Gully 7.8.50 Goal Kickers: L. Styles 2 Best Players: F. Smith, L. Kimpton, J. Bolton, H. Lovat, E. Wadsworth, J. Mutsaers Seniors: Coming off the good win we secured against Waverley Blues, where the team showed fighting qualities and the knowledge that every game was a critical step in our quest to make the finals, it was a disappointing outcome that resulted from our game at Upper Ferntree Gully. Where one week system and commitment were at their highest, to a game that seemed to miss direction and method. A fighting first term against the breeze saw us with opportunity but unfortunately no reward on the scoreboard. By halftime we managed to get the game back on our terms but unfortunately that s where it finished. Ground conditions, the weather and attitude combined to be our downfall from half time. To score just 4 points in a half of football is unacceptable for a team pushing for finals, and I will be looking to the group to improve markedly this week. THE BLUES ARE ON THE MARCH!
