Opponents in the Rankings: With both the AP and coaches preaseason top 25s released recently, a number of DePaul opponents are slotted in both national rankings. DePaul s first ranked opponent is 14th-ranked Notre Dame on Nov. 11. Two Sign in Early Period: DePaul head coach Dave Leitao announced that John Diener and George Maslennikov will join VS. Both players completed the necessary paperwork on the opening day of the November signing period. Diener is a 6-4 guard ranked among Wisconsin s top players. Like his cousin Drake that played for DePaul and Leitao from 2001-05, John Diener is an outstanding shooter and he showed his scoring prowess with a Wisconsin state record of 46 points in the state tournament semifinals last season. He led the Bulldogs to a 24-3 record during his junior campaign en route to picking up unanimous All-State honors by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA). He averaged just over 21 points per game along with nearly seven rebounds per game while playing for his father, Tom Diener. As a sophomore he averaged 22.2 points per game and earned All-State honors from the WBCA and the Associated Press. Maslennikov is a native of Ukraine that is currently playing for Holy Spirit Prep in Atlanta. A year ago he helped Holy Spirit win the GISA state tournament in Georgia and pulled down 16 rebounds in the championship game. Maslennikov is a 6-9 forward ranked among the top players in Georgia and he played for the Atlanta Express on the Under Armour AAU circuit. We really like what George brings to our program with his shooting ability for a big man as well as his toughness under the basket, said Leitao. He s a cerebral player that has good size and ability that will translate well to how we run our program here at DePaul. Diener and Maslennikov join Coleman-Lands who is sitting out this season as a transfer on the active roster next season. Coleman-Lands has two seasons of eligibility starting with the 2018-19 campaign after averaging 9.1 points per game and shooting.402 (158-393) from three-point range over two seasons. The early signing period for college basketball runs through Nov. 15, 2017.
