In 1900, when the first athletic team to represent DePaul University was organized, the monogram D was selected for the uniforms. This originated the nickname D-men which evolved into Demons. The blue, which combines with Demons, signifies loyalty and was chosen in 1901 by a vote of the student body. GAME NINE VS. Starters: DePaul plays the third of three consecutive games against local competition on Friday night when the Flames visit Wintrust Arena. The Blue Demons split the first two games with a loss at Northwestern on Saturday followed by a win over Chicago State on Wednesday. Start time between the Blue Demons and Flames at Wintrust Arena is set for 6 p.m. Friday s game will be televised on FS1 with Jeff Levering (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) handling the television duties. The 10,387-seat facility near McCormick Place in the South Loop area of the city is a joint project between the City of Chicago, the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority, and DePaul University. It features state-of-art amenities for the DePaul men s and women s basketball programs as well as fans in attendance with over 400 club seats and 22 suites. In December 2017, the facility hosted both the No. 1-ranked women s and men s Transferable: The 2018-19 DePaul roster features five players that started their collegiate careers at different programs. DAVE LEITAO HEAD COACH // 7TH SEASON AT DEPAUL Dave Leitao was named DePaul s head coach on March 29, 2015 and returned to Chicago following a very successful three-year stint with the Blue Demons from 2002-05. Leitao s threeyear run saw three postseason appearances that included a 2004 Conference USA title and trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The New Bedford, Mass. native left DePaul following the 2004-05 season and accepted the head coach position at Virginia. With the Cavaliers, he made three postseason appearances in four seasons and was the 2007 ACC Coach of the Year. In 12-plus career seasons as a collegiate head coach, Leitao holds a record of 178-196. Of the 12 full seasons as a head coach, he has led teams to six postseason tournaments including advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament at both DePaul (2004) and Virginia (2007). Over his six-plus seasons at DePaul, Leitao holds a record of 93-101. Most recently, Leitao was an assistant coach at Missouri and Tulsa under Frank Haith. Missouri posted back-to-back 20-win seasons in his time in Columbia that included one NCAA and one NIT appearance. In his final season at Tulsa, Leitao helped the Golden Hurricane to 23 wins and a NIT berth. Following the 2014-15 season, Leitao was ranked No. 20 in the Basketball Times list of the top 50 assistant coaches in the nation. Before making the first move to DePaul in 2002, Leitao spent six seasons as the associate head coach at Connecticut.
