Redlands Athletics Centre w w w.red land sathletics. org. au How good was Club Carnival on Sunday at Sheldon..what an absolutely fantastic venue and after speaking with many parents and athletes through out the day it was well received. Some have even booked themselves in for next year already. First and foremost Sunday was a result of a lot of hard work from your dedicated Committee who spent many hours, emails, meetings and phone calls pulling this whole event together. One person in particular needs special mention, if it wasn t for Hein this carnival would not have been what it was. His technical skills around setting up timing gates, ResultsHQ, programming, event sheets and on the day support was above and beyond. Somewhere in there he arranged the truck and assisted with the transfer of equipment to and from the clubrooms and even helped pack it away at the end of the day. Thanks Hein awesome effort. Back in August last year we had discussion around would we even have the carnival given our committeee size, the oval being earmarked for development and the amount of work required. Their was doubt present but we committed and can I say proudly we delivered. Secondly, to our many volunteers who helped out on the day, your efforts contributed greatly to our success. Each role no matter how large or small played an important role in the overall functioning and ultimately the success of the carnival and you guys did it so well. We had a few dramas, but every carnival does but overwhelmingly the feedback received was more positive which is a credit to this club and the people that make it up. All up 292 athletes registered for the event with athletes from as far away as Highfields near Toowoomba, Tweed and even Bundaberg.

Our committee will take time out to reflect on the carnival and review how it went as our aim is to improve on this year as next year it will get bigger. If you want to be a part of this journey we encourage you to give thought to joining the committte for next season. Our AGM is not far away so if you want to find out more come and have a chat. Club competition resumes this Saturday with the final twilight meeting of the year. Our first two have been well received and shown to be a popular time of the day. The BBQ provides a first class meal opportunity meaning mum (or dad) wont have to cook when they get home. We are currently asking if we can have a twilight meeting again on the 17 th (remember 10 th and 11 th are Regional Championships) which would be our last one for the season. We will keep you updated on this. This weekend is the third Club Championship day where athletes will once again be compeiting for points that will go towards their overall points total to help determine age group champions. Remember there are rules around minimum events to compete in and also minimum club championship days to attend to qualify. If you are unsure look at your yearbook as it is all in there. Regional Championship nominations have now closed. Being held on Saturday the 10 th and Sunday 11 th February at the State Athletics Facility (SAF), Nathan means we will not be holding club competition on the Saturday. We have confirmed our entries with a final list to be supplied by LAQ to us hopefully by the weekend. For those that have not paid can you please do so by paying into the clubs bank account details of which are below be end of weekend. Nomination cost is $15.00 per athlete for a maximum of 5 events. Bank Account Name: Redlands Athletics BSB 014-218 Account Number 3006-87887 Reference Family Surname At Regional Championships our club has been tasked with supporting Girls Discus and Girls Javelin.this means we need to provide all the officials for the event. If your child is competing this is a wonderful opportunity to be up close to the action seeing them do what they do best. Whilst we cannot enforce your assistance we would like to see the club spirit around teamwork shine through once again by being out there. It also means others can take breaks as well and finish the day on time. Our team at Regional Championships this year comprises around 60 athletes. One thing all patrons need to be aware of is that athletes will not be permitted on the hill inside the grounds and on the walk over bridge on the outside of the track. This is due to Stadiums QLD requiring our region to not have a repeat of events at Regional Relays whereby athletes were engaging in activities considered not acceptable. So parents please ensure your children are aware of this and abide by this request. DON T FORGET YOUR COLES PATCH MUST BE AFFIXED TO YOUR CLUB UNIFORM FOR THIS EVENT NO EXCUSES WE HAVE THEM AT THE CLUBROOM. Now is the time to begin giving thought to joining the future of our club as we look to continue looking for ways to evolve to ensure we provide a quality offering for our members into the future.

The following is a list of people who went over and above to help your club on Sunday on behalf of the club we would like to express out thanks and appreciation for what you did. A reminder we have three more competition days scheduled for Club Championships for the remainder of the season. To ensure we achieve the required 5 days for the season and therefore have all events included there will be changes in the weekly programs on these weeks to ensure we achieve this. These program changes also ensure our exposure to the elements is lessened, the last thing we want is another rained out club championship. Remaining Club Championship days are 3 rd February, 17 th February and 3 rd March. A reminder to all parents to refresh you understanding of the qualifying criteria around club championship to ensure you give your child the best opportunity. This can be found in your yearbook. Below is the program for this week with those events highlighted green being club championship events. Being a Club Championship day we remind all parents that Rules of Competition must be followed to (a) preserve the integrity of the award and (b) preserve the integrity of record holders. Don t forget this week is once again out twilight meet, the canteen will again be set up for your convenience. We will have available for you hamburgers, sausages, chips & wedges along with all our other normal items.

QA have invited Redlands Athletics to put forward an Expression of Interest to be a part of the 2018 Brisbane Cross Country Series. 2,000, 3,000, 4,000 & 5,000 metres. This series comprises 7 separate event dates at different venues around Brisbane where athletes compete for points over varying distances of 1,000, Last year was a resounding success with just under 200 athletes attending our event. This year we are hoping break the 200 mark. The date we are nominating for is Round 5 of the series on Saturday 26 th May 2018. This date sits nicely for us just after Bayside Districts (27 th April) but more importantly before Met East Trials (5 th June) and Qld State X-Country Titles on the 21 st July. How can you help us our club is diverse, our kids go to many and varied schools in the region. We would like to find out who we can send information to on our event to help achieve this target. Training is still on Monday & Wednesday nights from 4:30pm to 6pm. High Jump training is on Saturday s before competition commences. Please arrive for High Jump an hour before competition. This training is only for U12 and above athletes using the Fosbury Flop technique.

We are now only a couple of weeks away from our SE Regional Championships. We would like to remind all parents and athletes that a condition of the Region using SAF (State Athletics Facility) under its hire agreement is that no one is permitted to climb on the hill inside the facility precinct and on the pedestrian bridge outside of the facility. Both of these areas will be monitored during the carnival with offending clubs fined by the Region for noncompliance. I understand it sounds over the top but in the current world we live in this is the way most major sporting venues are going as they seek to minimise the chance of litigation from claims made arising out of injury. All Redlands members who attend SE Regional must adhere to this request as the club will pass on any financial cost imposed on us to you. The grandstand will not be available for use at SE Regional Championships but we will have two club 6x3 tents for your convenience. You will need to bring your own chair, esky, blanket and whatever else will make your day a comfortable one. Our tents will be located behind the shot put / hammer throw cage at the southern end of the track. First in best dressed. The canteen will be open for hot food and other conveniences. We will have a final entry list available shortly. Programs will be available for purchase on the day also.

A big thank you to Riann for all of these wonderful images of our kids
