THIS WEEK S ATHLETICS AND ACTIVITIES: Cross Country The Independence Boys and Girls High School and Junior High Cross Country squads will open their season Tuesday, September 6th at the Waverly Shell Rock Invitational held at the Wartburg Cross Country Course in Waverly. Races begin at 4:3pm. On Thursday, September 8th, the Independence Junior High Football Teams will be in action against Benton Community. 7th Grade will travel to Benton Community, 8th Grade will play at home at Lyle Leinbaugh Field. All games begin at 4:15PM. On Friday, September 9th, the Independence Freshman and Varsity Football teams will be in action against Waverly Shell Rock. Freshman will kickoff at 5:PM, with the Varsity to follow at 7:3PM. Games will be played at Lyle Leinbaugh Field. Marching Band The Independence Marching Band will be performing at Halftime during the football games, as well as competitions throughout the fall. The first competition for the Independence Mustang Marching Band will be on September 24th at the Linn Mar High School Marching Invitational. On Saturday, September 3rd, the Independence Sophomore and Junior Varsity volleyball teams will be in action. The Sophomore team will Dyersville Beckman for a tournament, while the Junior Varsity will host their tournament at the Independence Junior/Senior High School. Both tournaments begin at 9:AM. On Tuesday, September 6th, the Independence High School Volleyball Teams will travel to Williamsburg. The Freshmen Team will begin at 5:PM, Sophomore and Junior Varsity at 6:PM, and the Varsity at 7:3PM. Games will be played at Williamsburg High School in Williamsburg, Iowa.
